Chapter 269 Gulping Down Deep Jealousy (2)

Brian rested leisurely on the office chair, and the looked relaxed at the woman opposite of the desk.

The woman had soft and curly hair, and her lips stretched out a gentle smile. The tender feelings in her eyes were hard to conceal.

In Joanne's view, the woman looked nothing like the mighty queen referred to by her fans. She was definitely not the same charismatic actress before the camera.

She looked like a normal girl who couldn't hide her feelings when facing someone she loved.

Joanne silently let out a deep sigh-

There was nothing going on between Brian and Rosalyn, they were simply talking about work.

There was nothing going on!! They were just talking about work!!!

Brian immediately noticed Joanne. Pausing for half a second, he got up and walked toward her. "Why didn't you tell me you are coming back today?"

Joanne lifted her lips into a bright and sweet smile and whispered, "I wanted to surprise you! Do you like it?"

She deliberately lowered her voice, but Rosalyn heard it across from the desk anyway. Of course, she did it intentionally.

Brian stared at Joanne for two seconds with penetrating insight. Though she did not do anything wrong, Joanne still felt guilty...

At this time, Brian stroked her hair and smiled as he bowed his head to kiss her. "I like it very much."

"..."

As Rosalyn watched them, she quietly clenched her fists as jealousy stirred up in her heart.

Nevertheless, she had been awarded the best actress, so she seemingly acted at ease. "Since Mrs. Lambert is here, I will just leave you two alone."

Joanne turned and looked at her with a bright smile. "Take care."

Rosalyn put on her sunglasses and walked out of the office like a queen on high heels.

Joanne immediately jumped away from Brian and stared at him with dissatisfaction. He asked her innocently, "What's wrong?"

Joanne stomped her feet. "What did Rosalyn want from you?"

Brian smiled happily, and Joanne just realized-he wanted to see her stomping her feet like that!

Putting aside her posture and temperament, Joanne jumped on him angrily. "Speak!"

Brian enjoyed her suppression before the outbreak and said, "Joanne, you are being jealous."

Joanne raised her chin and snorted. "And I am gulping down deep jealousy!"

Brian was not so used to her straightforwardness. He wrapped her into his long arms and kissed her petal-like lips before she could struggle to lower her head.

His kisses were lingering yet overbearing.

He enclosed days of longings for this Little Monster in his kiss that he did not allow Joanne to escape.

Not sure if Brian's kissing skill was just too good, or that she had no immunity toward him, Joanne softened up to his kiss despite her tough attitude on the unanswered questions.

She didn't even know how Brian pressed her to the wall, or how long it had taken for him to release her.

He said, "I only meet up with my artists for work, understand?"

"..." What he meant was that it was necessary for him to meet with Rosalyn today, but simply for work?

Joanne nodded and accepted Brian's explanation.

Since she didn't see any excessive behavior between Brian and Rosalyn when she walked in, it would be unreasonable if she persisted on.

"Be good." Brian kissed her again as if he couldn't get enough. "Do you want to go home or stay here with me?"

Joanne said untruthfully, "I want to go home!" Then she tried to push away the hand Brian had pressed against the wall.

"Do you really want to go home?" Brian did not move and stared at Joanne with a sly look. His eyes were so bright as if he could gain insight into everything.

Embarrassed, Joanne bent her legs to drill out, but Brian picked her up instead like a pet.

"Hey!" The kiss from earlier emerged in her mind and made her think of something else. She nervously looked at the door of the lounge and struggled in a panic. "Let me down!"

Brian placed her on a sofa and passed her a tablet. "Be good and stay here, otherwise... I will really take you to the lounge."

Joanne subconsciously hugged the tablet, huddled in the corner of the sofa, and looked at Brian innocently.

How did he know that she thought he was going to take her to the lounge earlier...?

"Cough!" Joanne played dumb and pushed Brian. "You should go back to work."

Just like this, she stayed in the office with Brian for the whole day and still felt that time had passed away quickly.

Once the clock hit five, Brian left the office holding Joanne's hand. All the secretary and assistant outside were stunned, even Gavin looked at Brian with disbelief. "Are, are you getting off work?"

Brian lightly glanced at Gavin. "Anyone is welcomed to stay for overtime, the company does have good overtime benefits."

Gavin's lips twitched twice. "Damn, finally getting off work on time today!" He threw a document back to the office, and said to Joanne graciously, "benefactress, you should have come back earlier!"

Ever since Joanne's leave, Brian had been working overtime until midnight every day. So did these poor people who worked for him.

Now he finally understood. What could liberate them was never an exceptional performance, but rather, Joanne!

Joanne looked at the other secretary and assistant, who looked at her gratefully, then entered the elevator with Brian feeling more confused.

She had always heard of his secretary and assistant's complaints about the work intensity and the occasional overtimes.

Yet, no one left the company, or even mentioned a resignation. They still maintained a high level of enthusiasm for their work.

Though the competitive salary was one reason to stay, the bottom line was probably because of Brian?

Joanne sneaked a peek at Brian's side profile and remembered his assiduous look when he worked with high efficiency. Working with someone like him, she would also be willing to endure the occasional overtime and high-intensity work.

After they got on the car, Winston asked if they were going home as usual.

Joanne tugged Brian's hands. "I want to go visit my brother."

Chris was not back yet so Joanne opened the door with her spare key. His apartment was kept clean and tidy. The side-by-side refrigerator was full of fruits and vegetables. Brian said, "he is not as decadent as you imagined."

Joanne turned around and saw a bowl of udon on the table. It looked similar to the one she had with Freya in Japan. She took a bite of the udon, which tasted surprisingly similar as well.

She slowly understood something.

Perhaps Brian was right. Although Chris was not decadent, she still felt sad.

At this moment, Chris came back.

Chris paused upon seeing Joanne and Brian in the room, then he walked over and took away the bowl of udon. "The housekeeping lady did not come today."

The housekeeping lady came every other day. On her off-days, no one would clear the other set of breakfast. Therefore, he cleared it every time after he got back from work.

Joanne pretended like nothing was wrong and smiled. "Brother, have you had dinner yet? What do you want to eat? I will cook for you!"

Chris thought about it, but he couldn't think of anything, so he said, "Anything will do."

The refrigerator had everything she needed. Joanne closed the kitchen door and began to cook, shutting the two grown men outside the door.

Brian grabbed an unopened bottle of liqueur from the cabinet along with two glasses. Chris also sat down at the bar on a mutual understanding. He pointed at the glass with his chin. "Fill it up."

Many said that alcohol could take away one's sorrow; but because Freya hated alcohol, he had never used alcohol to paralyze himself despite his longings for her since she had left.

For the first time, the CEO of Lambert Group had poured a drink for another. Chris then chugged it down with some intention to vent.

After several glasses in a row, the spiciness of the liqueur burned in the throat. Chris seemed to be drunk. He looked at the photo wall and squinted. "I was about to propose to her."

It was the first time he had told his secret to another person; it was also the first time he spoke in such a grievous tone.

As a man, Brian understood Chris's feeling at the moment. He silently filled up the glasses with liqueur and lightly clinked Chris's glass. Out of respect, he drank up first.

Chris laughed and gulped down a big glass of liqueur.

After Joanne finally finished preparing four dishes and one soup, she was stunned when she came out of the kitchen.

Chris was already wasted on the counter. There was an empty bottle of liqueur, and one-fifth bottle of wine left on the counter.

Brian was still quite sober, but a layer of fascination loomed his narrow eyes. Looking unguarded, he seemed widely different from the assertive CEO of Lambert Group during day time.

"You guys..." Agitated, Joanne rushed over. "Who allowed you guys to drink!"

Chris was passed out and showed no reaction. Brian suddenly hugged around her waist and rubbed against her flat little belly. "Honey, have I ever proposed to you?"

Chris suddenly kicked Brian. "If you are not including the time you guys first met fourteen years ago, you practically married my sister on the first time you met. When the heck did you propose?"

"..." Hearing Chris swear like that for the first time, Joanne felt her perceptions collapsing down in an earthquake.

Before she could digest Chris's swearing, Brian suddenly jumped off from the high stool. He stumbled around and Joanne held him up.

Brian looked at Joanne not knowing what he wanted to do. At last, he seemed to have given up, and complained, "Honey, I feel dizzy."

Joanne finally confirmed that Brian was as drunk as Chris was.

She assisted Brian to the sofa to lie down and laid a blanket over him. Then, she went back to check on Chris. "Brother, how are you feeling?"

Chris waved his hand. "I am fine."

He raised his head with great difficulty and looked around. "Joanne, where is my room?"

"..." Joanne speechlessly assisted Chris back to his room, adjusted the room temperature, and carefully tucked him in bed. "Brother, I am going back. Can you take care of yourself?"

"Go ahead." Chris curled up in bed like a child. "I am not drunk."

According to Chris and Brian's alcohol tolerance, a bottle of liqueur and some red wine weren't enough to make them drunk.

Perhaps it was like the saying: one was intoxicated not by liqueur, but by oneself.
