Chapter 275 You Polluted the Air

In the City Police Station.

Joanne came out of the dissection room. Shawn entered the bathroom from the scene, when the hand sanitizer just bursted out of the foam.

He went out two hours ago. Generally speaking, he shouldn't be coming back from the scene so soon. Shawn looked even more surprised than her. He asked, "Joanne, why are you still here?"

"Where should I be?" Joanne smiled and asked, "something wrong with you after you went to the scene?"

Shawn just handed the phone to her, saying, "Look at this news."

-"Lambert Group acquisition failed, Scott Group was supported by mysterious investor, and returned to life"!

The news headline grabbed Joanne's attention tightly, and every time she watched a line of news, she became more anxious.

"Lambert Group may suffer some loss this time," Shawn said. "Of course, to Brian, it means..."

Joanne returned the phone to Shawn and went to ask Captain Turner for permission to leave without hearing him out. She stopped a taxi and went straight to Lambert Group. The several bodyguards responsible for protecting her almost didn't realize it.

"Master, I am in a hurry." She couldn't help but urge the taxi driver, "can you drive faster?"

The master said, "It is already very fast!"

Really? Why did she still feel it was very slow?

She finally got to the Lambert Group building. Joanne rushed into the elevator like the wind, and the front desk receptionists almost didn't recognize her.

Brian's office door was almost knocked out by her. She stood there and looked at Brian behind his desk while gasping.

Brian had already gotten up and walked to Joanne. He couldn't hide his confusion in his eyes. "Aren't you working? Why are you here?"

"...I saw the news."

Her voice was very light, as if unwilling to touch the subject that Brian was sad about. She had some softness in her eyes, as if she were being bullied.

Brian suddenly understood and touched her head. He said, "Silly."

"Shawn said... the company may suffer some losses..." Joanne asked very carefully, "are you okay?"

Brian raised his eyebrows. "Do you care about the company or do you care about me?"

"How do you still have a mood to make a joke?" Joanne grabbed Brian's clothes and continued, "what is going on exactly? Isn't the acquisition almost done?"

Brian told Joanne the truth and she couldn't react for a long time. "The mysterious person on the news is Rowdy?"

The man who had harassed her seemed to have disappeared recently. Joanne had turned her attention in him from defensive to forgotten. Now remembering him again, Joanne suddenly had a very bad feeling...

"No matter who it is, for Lambert Group, it is just a merger and acquisition plan that has failed. The impact on the company is negligible," Brian smiled and looked like he didn't care much, "Shawn did not tell you this?"

Joanne thought about it. 'What Shawn was trying to finish saying was this?'

She was embarrassed. "I left without hearing him out..."

Brian gently wrapped his arms around Joanne's waist, and the smile between his eyebrows reflected joy.

He bowed his head and kissed her. Then he said, "You are so nervous, I am very happy."

Joanne,"..." Bad taste!

She still asked after hesitating, "Why is Rowdy investing in Scott Group? Is he... aiming for you?"

Brian saw Joanne for two seconds, and seemed to sigh. "Joanne, why are you so clever when you should be stupid?"

A bad hunch was confirmed, and Joanne's heart was inexplicably tightened. "Why would Rowdy aim for you?

She always felt that the reason for that was not simple...

And Brian's eyes suddenly turning deep confirmed her guess.

He took her to the sofa. "There is a thing which happened a long time ago, and you need to know. I will tell you when I go home, okay?"

"...Okay." Joanne nodded, sitting on the sofa and waiting for Brian.

It was already very close to get off work. Brian worked for another hour. When he left the company, it was exactly six o'clock. He proposed, "Let's go back after having dinner."

Joanne did not hurry to go home, and she had not eaten out with Brian in a long time, so she nodded. "Okay!"

Knowing that Joanne loved to taste new things, Brian took her to a new restaurant recommended by Gavin.

Joanne liked the restaurant's decor very much, and she put the purse on the chair. "You order first, I will wash my hands!"

Coming out of the washroom, she unexpectedly saw Rowdy standing in a long corridor.

He was still in a pure black trench coat, leaning against the wall, which was as white as snow. There was a little scarlet light between the fingers, the rising smoke somewhat blurred his handsome facial features, but was unable to hide his powerful temperament.

Joanne associated him with the devil who ate people and did not spit the bones. She subconsciously retreated and put her hands into the pocket of her jacket, thinking that her little movements were well concealed.

Rowdy came over slowly, like a vampire getting closer to the young sweet blood step by step.

She suddenly grabbed Joanne's hand and pulled it out. Stretching his two fingers into her pocket, he pinched her phone out.

The mobile phone had been unlocked, and Brian's number was searched out. She could talk to Brian if she clicked on the dial-Joanne wanted to call Brian there.

Rowdy smiled very strangely. "Are you so afraid of me?"

"You overestimate yourself," Joanne smiled slightly and said, "I just loathe you."

"You actually didn't even say that you hate me," Rowdy was quite surprised, "It seems that Brian has not told you that."

"It doesn't matter, let me tell you." Rowdy twisted Joanne's palm with sudden strength as if he wanted to break her hand. "I will destroy Lambert Group, destroy Brian, and take away everything he has, including his love-you!"

Rowdy's gaze was poisonous, cold and horrible. Joanne's back was bursting with coldness, and she wanted to break away from his grasp.

But the more fear she showed, the happier Rowdy would be. So she pretended to be calm and smiled again. "You think you can compete with my husband by manipulating the Scott Group? Are you stupid or do you have no brains at all? Scott Group doesn't deserve to be an opponent to Lambert Group!"

"I like how you act like this." Rowdy did not feel anything, and stretched his rough hand to Joanne's face. "You obviously are very scared and you pretend to act like nothing happened."

Joanne didn't learn Taekwondo for nothing and unexpectedly broke away from Rowdy's hand. Rowdy was obviously stunned and she took the opportunity to avoid him and ran back to the dining hall.

Rowdy looked at her back and looked at the wrist that had just been hit by her. He brought it to his lips and kissed it gently-a more strange smile showed on his raised lips.

Joanne did not intend to conceal that from Brian that time. When she returned to her seat, she said to him, "I just met a person..."

Brian's eyes deepened and he stared at the doorway, saying three syllables to Joanne, "Rowdy?"

Joanne subconsciously looked back. It turned out that Steven came. He started to laugh so happily as if he were seeing his loved ones as soon as he walked in and saw Rowdy.

She put down the knife and fork with discontent. "I will not eat outside! There are always annoying people or those who are annoyed to see..."

Brian laughed, "Should we switch to another restaurant?"

"The dishes were already ordered, don't switch." Rowdy came over and said, "It's rare for us to meet, how about eating together?"

Joanne pulled her lips, and she didn't even want to fake a smile for him. "When you come in, the restaurant is polluted by something strange. If you like to eat where it smells funny, then suit yourself!" Then she took Brian's hand to say, "Honey, let's go."

Until they went out of the restaurant, Joanne noticed the unspeakable smile on Brian's face. She asked him with confusion, "What's so funny?"

Brian did not answer, and held her hand as he asked, "Where do you want to go?"

Joanne looked at the sky and took a deep breath. She said, "I want to go home!"

Only at home, a place that only belonged to her and Brian. There would be no strange things mixed in.

In the end, they really bought ingredients and went home. Joanne cooked and Brian gave her a hand. She simply made two dishes and a soup. After eating happily, it was almost nine o'clock.

Joanne sorted out the wardrobe to digest the meal. Brian stood by and watched her being busy; her slim figure became the most beautiful scenery in his eyes.

Seeing that Joanne was almost done, Brian grabbed her to take a bath, and they spent a long time in the bathroom. Joanne finally remembered the business and put his hands on Brian's shoulder. "You still have something to tell me!"

Brian wiped the water drops on Joanne's hair. "Take a shower first."

Joanne took a shower at the fastest speed and went back to the room, seeing Brian sitting on the bed, not reading the documents nor the books. He rarely acted like this.

She laid beside him and hugged his arm. "Okay, tell me!"

After a long silence, she finally heard Brian's voice. "Do you still remember that my father had passed away, not long before you met me?"

"Yes," Joanne nodded and said, "at that time, my mother told me that your father had left unexpectedly. I also tried so hard to cheer you up, but you simply ignored me!"

In fact, he didn't mean to ignore her, but at the time, Brian did not have that mood at all.

It was a long silence. Brian slowly said, "My father's death is not as simple as an accident. It was murder."

Joanne felt as if she were hit by something. She suddenly looked up at Brian, as if she could not understand the word, so she repeated it, "Murder?"

Brian pressed his lips. Joanne had not had that feeling for a long time; she could not understand him.

His eyes were as deep as the dark night sky; there was only the boundless emptiness, and it was bottomless. Even if the whole world looked up, no one could understand his gaze.

Under such deepness, something was surging, and he was using all his strength to suppress it.

Joanne finally understood. It was pain.

Her heart seemed to be stabbed with a knife, and had a sharp pain. She hugged Brian. "Don't think about it, I don't want to listen. Let's go to sleep..."

"Joanne, I planned to hide this from you all the time," Brian said, "but now, you need to know."

Rowdy was coming for him, for Lambert Group and even for Joanne. She was sometimes too simple. He needed her to know what kind of person Rowdy was, and how much destructive power he had.
