Brian couldn't be investigated by the police again, or Lambert Group would really have no hope of survival!
Joanne stood up suddenly, the confusion in her eyes disappearing slowly. And she decided, the most important thing now was to verify the information from Rowdy.
She expected it was a fluke, a counterfeit to scare her, but her senses told her Rowdy was not so bored.
After Shawn finished the anatomical work and returned to the office, he found Joanne still seated, lost in her thoughts. He didn't know if she was calm or panicky. So he walked over and knocked on her desk. "What are you doing?"
Joanne locked the door of the office from inside. "Shawn, help me!"
Shawn was frightened by her solemn face. "What happened?"
Joanne handed the portfolio to Shawn. "Find someone you can trust and find out Brian's fund sources in the early days of his business, and if Wesley has any relationship with Lambert Group."
Shawn glanced at the file case and understood it all, shaking his head unbelievably. "If it is true, Brian..."
"So you need to find someone you absolutely trust to investigate secretly and cannot alarm anyone," Joanne said determinedly and firmly, "tell me once you receive a result."
"I know the Hayes Family in Glasgow," Shawn said, "did you notice his relationship with Wesley, since you've been married tp Brian for so long?"
After quite a while, Joanne only struggled to squeeze out two words. "Very close."
Shawn felt that the information was mostly real.
He put his hand on Joanne's shoulder to comfort her. "Don't worry too much, wait for me."
Joanne nodded and watched the clock on the wall. It was about seven o'clock.
She packed up and walked out of the police station. Coincidentally, Brian's car also stopped. He got out of the car, standing by the door and smiling at her, which beckoned her over.
Joanne lifted her lips and walked over. The closer she got to him, the stranger Brian was in her eyes.
Having been married for more than half a year, she thought she had known all about Brian, his living habits, some of his quirks, and the way he conducted himself.
Brian also didn't mind telling her his everything.
However, he never mentioned the days after he went to U.S.
He got to meet and befriend Wesley, Gavin in these years.
Brian could perceive all her changes even if Joanne lost a strand of her hair, not to mention her slightly weird expression at the moment.
He stared at her. "What's wrong? You don't look good."
Joanne hid her bad mood quickly and squeezed a smile. "There was a homicide case, so we've been busy this afternoon. You're... already off work?"
"Not yet." Brian made his way beckoning Joanne to get in the car. "I suddenly got hungry. Simon told me that you haven't gone off work, so I come by to pick you up, to have dinner."
Joanne chose a restaurant where they never went before and the food tasted very good. Though she did not want to eat, she still had to pretend to enjoy it.
After dinner, Joanne thought that Brian would go back to the company and continue to work. But he suddenly changed his mind and went straight home instead of to the company.
Joanne felt very surprised. "Does Mr. Brian also slack off?"
Brian embraced her waist and smiled. "Because Mr. Brian wants to stay with his wife."
In Joanne's memory, she had not had a chance to talk with Brian for a long time. She dragged Brian to sit down in the living room after back at home and then turned on the TV. "Watch a movie with me."
She picked and finally chose an old movie which she had watched three times.
"Gone with the Wind".
Brian came back from the wine cellar, carrying a bottle of wine and only to see the movie's name on the screen. Then he lifted the eyebrow and poured the wine himself.
When everything was ready, Joanne wrapped herself in a blanket and freely leaned on Brian, staring fixedly at the screen. Brian handed the wine glass to her and suddenly asked, "How about having someone to set up a home theater later?"
Joanne's eyes brightened. "Really?"
Brian glanced at her and said, "It depends on what you will do."
Joanne kissed him without hesitation, holding his arm. "When?"
A pleasant smile appeared on Brian's face. "When we come back from France."
Joanne hugged Brian happily and contentedly. "That means I can watch "Gone with the wind" in a cinema every day in the future."
Brian seemed a little puzzled. "Why do you like this movie so much?"
"Because it's beautiful, suffering, and regretful," Joanne said, "compared with the people of that era, we are too lucky. Some hardships these days are not even hard at all."
"..."
Brian was silent for a moment, so Joanne naturally changed her topic to his life in the U.S. She asked, "Did you feel tired when you just arrived in U.S?"
"Not bad." Brian picked the glass up. "It's all in the past." He bowed his head and sipped the wine. Joanne was not sure if a trace of coldness passed through his eyes at that moment.
She was rarely stubborn and didn't let go of Brian. "I want to know how you lived in those years."
"You really want to know?"
Joanne positively nodded.
Brian put down the glass and told her seriously. "Just went to classes, then went home, and did these things every day."
Joanne knew that Brian must conceal something, but she couldn't continue, otherwise he would be suspicious.
So she despised him at will. "Your life was so boring."
"In fact, I could live a different life." Brian spoke slowly. "Such as going to a party with my classmates, drinking, then dating instead of going home after class."
Joanne did know how casual the U.S. people were: after a drink and date, then they could...
She glared at Brian. "How dare you!"
She was rarely angry. For Brian, the expression that she glanced angrily was completely cute. He just answered, "I don't." Then he bowed his head to seize her lips.
"Oh..." Joanne struggled and ambiguously protested. "The movie..."
Brian held her up with the blanket. "You have watched it three times."
The audience returned to the room, leaving the film to play alone in the living room.
...
The next day.
Only when Joanne arrived at the police station, did she know that Shawn had taken a half-day leave, then she called him but no one answered.
In the afternoon, Shawn finally came to the police station, locking the door of the office, and solemnly looking at Joanne.
Joanne's heart screamed and her voice trembled. "Is there an answer?"
Shawn nodded and said, "I don't want to leave the evidence. So I don't sort it into written materials. Simply to say, on the surface, Brian's initial source of funds came from investing in stocks and trading in futures. In fact, a large source of funding is obscure. If we continue..."
Joanne continued, "You will trace it back to Wesley, right?"
Shawn nodded. "Now Wesley seems to run a technology company, but actually he's in charge of his family business. Wesley doesn't belong to the underground world, nor does he belong to official authority, so his identity is very sensitive. The police have been investigating and want to defeat him, and then many gray industries in G City will be swept away. It is not good that Brian involves with him so much."
"I know."
Joanne lost her mind suddenly and even her voice wavered.
"I have another question." Shawn stared at Joanne. "Who gives you that information? Rowdy?"
Joanne nodded.
Shawn finally knew why Joanne was so flustered, so he told her to stay calm and asked, "Did Rowdy say what he wanted? He held the information but didn't threaten Brian. Instead, he came to you. It means that he certainly wants to get something from you."
Joanne held her head and forced herself to calm down. She finally remembered. "Rowdy said that I would call him."
She dialed Rowdy's number and put it on speaker. Quickly, Rowdy's voice came. "It's faster than I thought. Ah-, I've looked down on you before."
...
"Cut the crap," Joanne asked directly, "What do you want?"
"Haven't I told you already?" Rowdy chuckled and said word by word, "I want Brian to watch the person he loves to leave him, I also want Brian to live in pain and feel that it is better to die than to live."
""
"Well, you may not understand this." Rowdy's voice calmed down again and said, "Joanne, divorce him!"
Feeling like something violently hit her brain, Joanne subconsciously refuted. "No way!"
"I've seen that coming." Rowdy was not in a hurry, slowly announcing more breaking news. "I'll tell you this, I have much more information than you see. Now, find your way to Hyatt, then I will show you something else."
Joanne looked at Shawn subconsciously, and then heard Rowdy adding, "You can bring some company if you are still worried."
Joanne and Shawn rushed to the Hyatt hotel, according to Rowdy's words, they went to Room 06 on the 17th floor.
The door was open and Rowdy was waiting for them.
Seeing Joanne with a man, Rowdy smiled and said, "In the daytime, entering a hotel with a man. You're not afraid of being photographed and Brian will misunderstand?"
"Don't use your shortsighted eyes to judge others." Joanne looked at Rowdy coldly. "What else do you have?"
Rowdy handed a document to Joanne. There were some photos. Those people were Wesley, Brian, and Gavin.
They were all photos of the three's recreational time. The three people were talking and laughing, either fishing or playing golf together.
The photos themselves were nothing, but it was enough to show that the three people had a close relationship.
A survey report under the photo showed that Brian had participated in some of Wesley's transactions. It was about eight or nine years ago when Brian's first started his business.
Joanne knew that it didn't work, but only by tearing up these things could she hide the uneasiness in her heart.
Then she calmed down, eyes full of unwillingness, but she could do nothing.
Rowdy smiled. "I'll tell you straight, I have some evidence-that can prove Brian might have broken the law."
"Where did you get these things?" Shawn asked.
"Of course I have my way."
Shawn smiled. "You arranged someone around Wesley."
"You are smart." Rowdy sat down on the sofa and lig a cigar. "It would be good if Wesley were as smart as you. Unfortunately, although he's aware, he doesn't know who he is."
Rowdy poured red wine in the cup and gestured to Joanne. "It's time for us to talk."
Joanne's hands clenched into fists, and only then could she hide her trembling. "Do you really want me to divorce Brian?"
"Yes, I want you to propose to divorce him," Rowdy said, "Otherwise, I will hand all the things you see to the police. By the time, you don't need me to tell you what Brian and Lambert Group will face, do you?"
