Chapter 345 Joanne Disappears (1)

In the parking lot of the shopping mall...

As soon as they got in the car, Freya took Joanne and wanted to scan her from inside to outside. "Are you really okay?"

"I'm really okay." Joanne signaled Freya to rest assured. "I just almost fell, but did not really fall."

Freya fastened her seat belt and made a long sigh of relief. "It's still better for me to take you back to the hospital."

They met Wendy downstairs in the hospital.

Wendy was walking in a hurry and her face was not quite right. Joanne called her, "Wendy, what happened?"

"Cousin, you're back." Wendy ran over. "I just wanted to find you and my cousin."

"Is there anything wrong?" Joanne softly appeased Wendy. "Tell us slowly."

"A colleague from the hospital administrative department just told me that someone called to ask if I was working in the OB-GYN department." Wendy grabbed her clothes uneasily. "I checked the number, and it was the number of the cousin's assistant. Cousin, do you think... your husband started to suspect something?"

Joanne and Wendy discussed the time and found out that Gavin's phone call came after she had left the mall.

Even if Brian really suspected something, he started to be suspicious when he was in the mall.

However, she clearly concealed herself very well, and the needle holes in her hand were explained very reasonably. Brian should not have any doubts.

Finally, Joanne thought of Freya-when she was about to fall, Freya's reaction was too obvious.

Fortunately, Wendy did not work in OB-GYN, which did not confirm Brian's guess... It should be possible to hide for another period of time.

After returning to the ward, Joanne contacted Chris. She explained the whole thing and asked Chris what she should do.

"Don't worry about this, let me handle it," Chris said. "You should rest well and try to get discharged as soon as possible."

After having lunch with Joanne, Freya also left.

Joanne rarely had much spirit or physical strength. She didn't want to waste time in bed so she just went downstairs to take a walk.

During the New Year, the hospital was cold and clear, and the small garden for patients to walk in was also empty. Only the cold wind blew the trees from time to time, emitting a dry rustling sound.

Joanne went to the grassy area and was looking for a bench to sit down on when she suddenly heard a cry of depression and helplessness.

When she lost her mother and divorced Brian, she once cried like this.

That person should be really sad.

Joanne followed the sound and found that a man in his 50s was squatting under a bare sycamore tree.

The man was dressed in old clothes, his skin was aging due to years of work, the shoes on his feet had been worn out, and the soles were also severely worn. It could be seen that he had worn those shoes for years.

He buried his head in his knees, his shoulders convulsing. The cold wind swept through his unkempt hair, making him look helpless.

Joanne couldn't help feeling sympathy so she walked over. "Uncle, what happened to you?"

The man looked up at the young and beautiful girl in front of his eyes, saw sympathy and compassion from her eyes, and cried even more sadly.

"Uncle, get up now," Joanne helped the man up, "it's cold here, let's go to the hospital cafeteria."

The canteen was just next to the small garden. Joanne bought two cups of hot milk tea. She asked the waiter for two pieces of tissue and handed them to the man to wipe his tears. She handed the milk tea with the straw in it to him. "Uncle, now is the New Year, why are you in the hospital?"

He did not wear a hospital gown, so Joanne determined that he was not a patient.

"My wife is staying in this hospital." The man wiped his tears. "She has had kidney failure. In the past few years, she has been treated in small places. It has not been good after we spent all our savings. I have to take her to the hospital in the big city. The doctor said that she has missed the best treatment period, and now she can only change the kidney. There is a suitable resource, but the treatment of the previous two years has used up all our life savings. I cannot raise the money for the surgery..."

The more he said, the sadder he got. "She married me at a young age, then something happened to me, but she has been waiting for me. Seeing that we almost are going to finish our whole lives, she suddenly became so sick." His tears fell on the table drop by drop. "If she is gone, I can't live anymore."

Joanne felt the same.

When she decided to divorce Brian, she also thought about death, not because she had nothing to live for, but because she didn't know how to live without him.

"Uncle, what is your name?" Joanne asked.

"Marcus Wilson."

"Uncle Wilson," Joanne smiled, "I can help you."

Marcus looked at Joanne with shock.

In order to cure his wife, he spent a lot of money and borrowed money from everyone he knew. Now, no one was willing to pick up his calls, so he desperately hid under the tree and cried.

He thought that there was actually no way to solve it, but the stranger who just appeared said that she could help him.

"Miss, you..." Marcus was hesitant and did not dare to believe Joanne.

"Uncle, you can rest assured, I am not a liar." Joanne pointed to her hospital gown. "I am a patient in this hospital."

Marcus looked at Joanne and thought that she did not look like a liar. He asked excitedly, "How can you help me?"

"I can help you with a donation." Joanne said, "I know some people in the media, I can help you contact them to report your affairs and start a love donation. Maybe before it takes a long time, you can raise money for the surgery."

"You mean, have me be in the paper?" Marcus's face looked a bit wrong.

Joanne nodded. "Pretty much."

"No, no, no," Marcus repeatedly waved, "I can't be... I can't ask for someone else's money."

"Uncle Wilson..." Joanne tried to convince Marcus.

"Miss, thank you." Marcus was busy getting up, and his face looked inexplicably a bit flustered. "I need to go. I will think of other ways to get the money."

After Joanne returned to the ward, she had Wendy inquire about Marcus. Wendy said, "You don't need to inquire. The situation of Uncle Wilson is very familiar to the entire hospital staff!"

"..."

"He probably brought his wife to our hospital a month ago. He was very busy and thoughtful. On Christmas Day, he bought a rose for his wife. He is a well-recognized man. One day, a director of our department got off work late, and found that he was sleeping under a bridge near the hospital. When he asked, he knew that his savings were not much. In order to pay for medical expenses, he was reluctant to go to sleep at a hotel, and he eats buns for three meals, takes a bath, and drinks water in the hospital. For this, he also apologized to our director."

"Is his wife's situation very bad?" Joanne asked.

Wendy nodded. "Now she has been using conservative treatment, which has already made them owe a lot in medical expenses. The doctors and nurses in the hospital have gotten more than 10,000 dollars to help him pay, but if he still can't get the money, not only will his wife be unable to hold on, it will also be difficult for the hospital to handle."

Joanne went silent and did not speak for a long time.

Wendy looked at Joanne and found that her expression was abnormal. "Cousin, what do you want to do?"

Joanne took her wallet out of the bag and took out a card and handed it to Wendy. "Help me pay for the surgery for Uncle Wilson."

"It's hundreds of thousands!" Wendy's eyes widened. "Cousin, do you really want to help?"

"It's not easy for two people to stay together till they are old," Joanne said. "They shouldn't be separated because of sickness."

Wendy suddenly understood that Joanne's kindness was such that she wanted more people to be together until the end of their lives, instead of being like her and Brian, who were in love but couldn't be together.

She would let others realize the best dream deep down in her heart.

Wendy nodded and went to help pay for Uncle Wilson's wife surgery and the hospitalization fee after the operation.

The little girl at the cashier couldn't wait to pick her up and turn around a few times. "Wendy, I didn't know that you were so rich and loving!"

Wendy couldn't say that this was Joanne's money. She smiled and went to the director of internal medicine to arrange surgery for Mrs. Hong as soon as possible.

Marcus ran from the surgery department to OB-GYN after he heard about this. He almost knelt down to Joanne as he shed tears to guarantee her. "Miss, I will pay you back this money. After my wife recovers, we will repay you even if we need to work as laborers."

Joanne poured a glass of water for Marcus. "Actually... I just envy your wife. My husband and I..." She smiled and stopped talking. "Let's talk about the money later. Uncle Wilson, go back to take care of your wife, she will have the surgery in a few days and she may be a little nervous, so you should comfort and appease her."

Marcus took out a small book and a pen from his dilapidated canvas bag. "Miss Scott, give me a number and address. After my wife has recovered, we must go to see you and thank you."

Joanne left her mobile phone number and the address of Chris's apartment, and finally returned the book to Marcus, and asked, "Uncle Wilson, where are you from? How come you want to bring your wife to Arlington for treatment?"

Marcus blinked his eyes and sighed. "I am actually a native of Hongjiazhuang, Nanhe City. I used to stay in the city for a while, and I am familiar with it, so I brought my wife here."

Hongjiazhuang, Nanhe City...

Suddenly, Joanne remembered Tory, who drove into Brian's father 15 years ago, and his hometown was Hongjiazhuang, Nanhe City!

She was excited and grabbed Marcus's sleeve. "Uncle Wilson, I want to ask you about someone! Tory, do you know this person?"

Marcus's face changed, and his whole body was a little stiff. "You... Why are you asking about Tory?"

"I am looking for him," Joanne said. "He had a car accident a decade ago. The person who died in the car accident was the father of my husband. I recently found out that the car accident was not an accident, he was not a murderer, and he is just the scapegoat. I want to have Tory throw out the confession from that year and make the police review the case. However, after Tory was released from prison more than a decade ago, he disappeared. I have not found him for a long time."

Joanne put all her hopes on Marcus. "Uncle Wilson, do you know where he is?"

Marcus hesitated and shook his head. "The accident of Hang Qing hitting the person and causing him to die had shocked the whole village. After a few years, we heard that Tory was released from prison. Then before long, his wife suddenly disappeared from the village. After that, none of us have seen Tory again."

"Also, if there is news of Tory in the village, we have already heard about it." Joanne smiled. "Uncle Wilson, thank you."

Marcus waved his hand. "I didn't help you at all. But you must find Tory?"

"The real murderer came back and forced me to divorce my husband," Joanne said. "I must find Tory and prove that Rowdy is a murderer so I can go home."

"I don't know that there was such an inside story in Tory's case." Marcus said with some hesitation, "Miss Scott, you must hate Tory very much."

Joanne smiled and said, "What is the use of hating him? The real murderer is not him. And now he is the only one who can help me."
