Brian took Joanne in his arms to the dressing room, and he seemed unwilling to release her.
He gently looked at her in the mirror, saying, "I promise that you will be the happiest bride in the world on our wedding day."
Joanne smiled and said, "I can't be happier now!" She then freed herself from his arms and pushed him, saying, "You need to go out before I undress."
Brian just stood there and said, "I don't mind helping to dress you, let alone undress you."
Joanne felt embarrassed, so she pushed and coaxed him out.
She quickly took off the wedding dress, hung it inside the wardrobe, and stroked its fine texture with a smile on her face.
In fact, Brian was not the only one looking forward to the wedding.
"Have you finished yet?" Brian's voice arose. After leaving the dressing room, he had been waiting outside it.
"Yes." Joanne closed the wardrobe door and went downstairs together with Brian.
The lunch was ready. It was a real feast; the cook made several dishes according to their tastes. Seeing that, Wendy could not wait to enjoy the meal. She even forgot her grudges against Gavin and seemed to not mind dining with him.
After the meal, Wendy was about to leave, saying that she would go to see a film with her colleague. Knowing Gavin would leave at that moment, Joanne said, "Gavin, could you drive her to the cinema?"
"No..." But before Wendy could say any more words, Gavin interrupted her with a happy face, and said, "Sure."
Outside the house, Wendy looked at Gavin with amazement, saying, "Why did you promise her?"
Gavin twirled his car keys, turning his lips into a smile. "Because you don't want me to do so."
Wendy knew that Gavin did that intentionally to anger her. Would she be angry?
That's impossible!
"I dislike you, you know!" Wendy waved her hands to Gavin, saying, "Be watchful while driving, or you'll fall into the ditch!"
With that, she made a disdainful look and happily walked away.
Even though Gavin promised Joanne he would drive her, she did not have to go with him.
She could go on foot, which was her No. 11 bus!
Gavin leaned against his car door, looking at Wendy's back with easiness while shaking his head, thinking, "She's too young and irrational."
10 minutes later, Wendy realized she was being too irrational.
She thought that she would not accept the ride, but she had not thought of how she could leave there without a car.
She would have to walk until night, let alone she did not know the way out, and she would miss the film.
And, it was too late to call a taxi.
It was too embarrassing... to call Joanne for help.
Wendy cried out and sat down by the roadside; she plucked a weed with frustration, rubbing it hard with her hands.
"Beep-"
Hearing the horn, Wendy looked back and saw a yellow sports car in front of her with the window rolled down, and Gavin's handsome and annoying face burst into her eyes.
Gavin whistled and said, "The film will start in an hour and 13 minutes."
Wendy clenched her fist and thought, "I should keep my promise. A man among men is he who knows when to eat humble pie and when to hold his head high!"
She opened the door and got in the car, then fastened the seat belt, saying, "Take me to the Qiyuehua Plaza on Daxing Road."
Gavin stepped on the accelerator, and with excellent function, the car started running like an arrow coming off its bow.
After 50 minutes, the dazzling yellow sports car stopped at the surface-level parking lot of the Qiyuehua Plaza. The phone in her shoulder-bag rang while Wendy was about to get out. It was a call from her colleague who had asked her to see the film.
She answered it with excitement,"I just arrived. Where are you?"
"Wendy, I'm sorry." There came an apologetic voice saying, "I have an emergency, so I can't go."
Wendy did feel disappointed, but she could not force her colleague to come to see her, since she was busy. Wendy did not know why that colleague was busy right then, nor could she lose her temper, so she just smiled and said, "Never mind. Get on with what you are doing. See you next time."
With that, Wendy looked at the other film ticket, sighing.
To see a film alone with two tickets was a real luxury for her.
Gavin looked at the frustrated Wendy and asked, "Is your date a no-show?"
"It's not a date. She's just a colleague in my department!" Wendy realized the man by her side was not busy at the moment, so she handed a ticket to Gavin, saying, "It's yours. Thank you for driving me here."
With that, she opened the door and got out of the car, but found that Gavin was behind her when waiting for the lift.
With the ticket sandwiched between his long and lean fingers, Gavin said with sly humor, "It may not be smart to have a date with me like this. However, you succeeded." He decided to stay in the cinema with her since he was free that afternoon.
Wendy did not expect that Gavin would be willing to see a film. She said with disdain while walking into the lift, "Don't you realize that you have a face that's thicker than a wall?" With that, she took a 50-dollar banknote out of her purse and handed it to him, saying, "Give me the ticket."
"..." Gavin did not understand what she meant.
"I paid 50 dollars for it. I don't want to sit next to you, so I want to buy it back now." Wendy put the money into his coat pocket, and stretched out her hand, saying, "Give it to me."
At that moment, the lift door closed and it started rising.
Gavin smiled, thinking, "Should I say that she is naive or foolish?"
He waved the ticket, saying, "It's rude to sell what someone has given you, so I'll see the film. As for you... I wonder if you dare to go to the cinema."
The old-fashioned reverse-psychology strategy worked on Wendy.
She snorted and said, "Wait and see."
There was a concession stand outside the lift in the cinema. Wendy stood in line to buy two colas and a large bucket of popcorn.
At that time, the cinema manager recognized Gavin. He walked over to Gavin and asked in a low voice, "Mr. Gavin, are you seeing a film with your girlfriend?"
Gavin did not answer him or deny his words. The manager looked at the ticket and smiled, saying, "Standard seats are not for you. Let me show you the way and arrange better seats for you."
Wendy paid her bill and went up to Gavin, who motioned for her to follow the manager. She thought it was his provocation, so she strode behind the manager with the colas and popcorn in her arms.
She did not hesitate to dissect small creatures in class, let alone see a film with Gavin.
The film would start in 15 minutes, and the other audience members had not come yet. The manager took them to a balcony, where there were two cozy seats for people to sit in or lie down on, in front of which was a side table. They were 10 times more comfortable than the standard seats.
"Enjoy yourselves."
With that, the manager left the screening room as the other members of the audience had their tickets checked and went to the standard seats.
Wendy then realized that where they sat was open but private, thus the people around could not see them.
She thought they were VIP seats, so as she threw some popcorn into her mouth she said, "Should we pay extra money for the upgraded seats?"
Gavin pursed his lips and said, "No. The cinema belongs to Brian."
Wendy thought that she would not be able to enjoy all of this if it were not for the manager recognizing Gavin. She pushed a cola to him, saying, "It's my treat."
Gavin pulled back the handle of the chair and reclined, saying, "Thanks."
After several ads, the film started, to which Wendy had been looking forward. She held the popcorn in her arms and gazed at the screen without paying any attention to Gavin beside her.
When the film ended and others in the audience left, Wendy found that Gavin had been sleeping.
She thought, "Should I go right now, or wake him up first?"
Finally, she chose to play a trick on him.
He had not drunk the cola, so she opened the bottle, dunked a straw in it, and dripped the cola on his lips.
Some people would lick whatever flavorsome thing was on their lips while sleeping.
And so did Gavin, who pressed his lips together, then the cola on his lips disappeared.
Wendy thought it funny and got closer to him, then she dripped more cola on his lips. Sometimes she poked his lips with the straw, and that made him scratch them, then he just frowned and turned over quietly.
She thought, "You're such a pushover when you fall asleep!"
She scrutinized his face and found him kind of good-looking. Although he wasn't as handsome as Brian, nor as graceful as Chris, who was from a good family, he was more easy-going than them.
He had a unique heroic spirit, and he was like the college girls' dream lover-a pretty and bright, intelligent and humorous capable man, who would be eye-catching even if among a crowd.
Then Wendy got absent-minded, and all of a sudden, she lost control of the straw.
She thought, "Oh my God!" but it was too late to hide, as Gavin had already opened his eyes-
He clenched her hands with agility and held her down on the chair, making her unable to move.
He was so quick that she could hardly realize what happened. She vacantly looked into his eagle-like eyes with her heart beating fast.
The man before her was not what he appeared to be.
He was far more brilliant and dignified as well as cold-hearted than he looked.
Gavin found it was Wendy, then he frowned and asked, "What were you doing?"
"I... I just wanted to wake you up." Realizing their embarrassing postures, Wendy struggled and said, "Could you stand up and release me?"
Gavin released Wendy while coldly staring at her. "Don't touch me if I fall asleep next time."
Wendy should thank God that he did not bring a gun with him. Otherwise, he might hold the gun against her head instead of holding her down on the chair.
"Piss off!" Wendy rolled her eyes. "What are you thinking about? You being asleep with me alone won't happen again!"
Gavin felt something on his lips, so he licked them and it tasted like cola. Then he saw the opened cola can and straw on the side table, and realized what Wendy had done.
He smiled full of hidden danger, picked up his coat, and said, "If it won't happen again, it couldn't be better."
With that, he left the screening room.
Wendy stared at Gavin's back, dazzled, while thinking, "How sexy it was when he licked his lips!"
