Chapter 377 You Are Better Than Others

Three days later, it was the eighth-anniversary reception of the Everbridge Group.

It was held at a five-star hotel, which belonged to Lambert Group. As Chris had wanted, the hotel restaurant had been closed for three days during the anniversary.

It was 7 p.m. as the guests and the staff members of the Everbridge Group arrived at the hotel.

Although Joanne could not drink or wear high-heeled shoes, which would be dangerous for her, she still attended the reception together with Brian.

She used to refuse it when Chris had asked her to attend those occasions and meet more people. But she had hardly been absent when it came to the anniversaries and annual meetings of the Everbridge Group.

She knew best how hard it had been for Chris to start empty-handed. However, with the belief of giving her a better life, he had muddled his way through and finally made it.

Joanne knew best what the Everbridge Group meant to Chris.

A black luxury car stopped in front of the hotel. Joanne saw Gavin when she just got out of the car.

Gavin was in a blue suit with a matching bow tie that day, with a youthful hairstyle that had been dyed partially. He looked younger and more handsome than usual.

That night, he would be the most eye-catching bachelor.

Gavin, who was sharp-eyed, also saw Joanne and Brian at once. He walked over to them and said, "Let's go."

Joanne took Brian's arm, saying, "Wait a minute... I wonder if you could help me."

Gavin thought for a while and asked in doubt, "What can I do for you?"

"Wendy will be coming here alone. I think it may be inconvenient for her to call a taxi since she's in a gown. Could you please go and drive her here?" Joanne smiled, perfectly hiding what she was thinking about.

Gavin did not see through Joanne. He thought it was a piece of cake, so he replied without hesitation, "No problem. I'll leave right now."

"Do you know where Wendy lives?" Joanne asked.

"I've returned a phone to her there." Gavin took out his car key and opened the door. He waved his hand with his back to Joanne, saying, "See you."

Seeing the yellow sports car merge into the traffic, Joanne quickly phoned Wendy and said, "Wendy, dress yourself up. The more beautiful you are, the better! ... Uh, there will be many reporters at the reception, so you will probably be in the shot. You should be at your best since you have a connection with Everbridge Group!"

The ingenuous Wendy believed Joanne's words and said, "Of course. I won't let my cousin lose face!"

"Come on, put on your sharpest gown!" Joanne encouraged her.

After the call, Joanne thought she was doing another good deed. She gave Brian a bright smile and said, "Let's go."

Brian held Joanne, saying, "If Wendy and Gavin end up in a relationship, they'd owe it all to you."

"Uh, a lady is willing to bring a romance to a happy ending!" Joanne said with a proud and mysterious look on her face.

Wendy had been working in Arlington far away from home, so it could not be better if someone stayed by her side. As for Gavin... he needed a person who would love him heart and soul while giving him warmth.

"If Gavin and Wendy love each other, it can't be better," Joanne thought.

However, at that moment what she needed to care about first was the issue of Brian and her.

It was widely spread that Brian and Joanne had reconciled. What's more, after Freya broke the news, the media confirmed that Brian had ended his relationship with Rosalyn, but the reporters had never gotten any photos regarding that.

That night, Brian showed up together with Joanne, which authenticated Freya's words. It also meant that the previous gossip was totally a rumor.

The reporters rushed to them within seconds, blocking their way forward, with the camera lights flashing wildly. They didn't want to miss a single frame.

Brian had prepared for that. Eight muscular bodyguards, as well as the hotel security staff, stood around him and Joanne to form a line of defense, so she would not be bumped into.

The reporters were not affected by that at all, they just bombed them with a series of questions:

"Mr. Lambert and Mrs. Lambert, is it true that you never got divorced? Can you say something about your signed divorce agreements that have been widely read on the Internet?"

"Mrs. Lambert, why don't you answer our questions? Are you trying to fool the public?"

Having been surrounded and asked by the reporters those days, Joanne was already afraid of them. Hearing that question, she anxiously looked at Brian, who stopped there all of a sudden.

The reporters suddenly became quiet and turned off their flash lamps.

They stared at Brian, who just looked seriously at the female reporter that had questioned Joanne. He asked, "Was your magazine the first to publish the photo of the signed agreements?"

The female reporter didn't know why Brian had asked in that way. She became quite nervous, saying, "Yes."

"At that time, there was some misunderstanding between my wife and I. We had never decided to submit the agreements to the court, let alone make them public." Brian narrowed his eyes and asked, "How did you get the photo?"

"We..." That reporter paled at once. She swallowed hard while her palms were cold and sweaty.

At that moment, the other reporters just wanted to stay away from Brian. Even though it was their job, they just didn't want to ask Joanne any questions.

Otherwise, they would no longer be heard in the media circle the next day...

No one dared to ask an extra question, let alone block their way. Then Brian held Joanne to walk toward the reception.

Joanne confirmed that the reporters couldn't hear their words, so she said to Brian in a low voice, "I sent the photo to them..."

Brian replied as if nothing had happened, "I knew that."

Joanne's beautiful peach-blossom-like eyes widened slightly. She asked, "Then why did you question the reporter that way?"

Brian said with disdain, "It's the best way to shut them up."

Joanne,"..."

Compared with the reporters, the worldly-wise businessmen were not surprised at all when they saw Brian and Joanne. They didn't show any surprise when looking into the couple's eyes and just tried to show their congratulations as well as admiration.

Joanne just greeted those people with a standard smile on her face, while looking toward the entrance from time to time.

She was looking forward to Gavin showing up together with Wendy.

When Gavin just reached Wendy's house, he stopped his car and rolled down the window as usual. Then he saw Wendy pushing open the apartment gate and walking through it.

She was in a high-waisted, light-yellow tube dress, which gave her figure a perfect body proportion, and a pair of good-looking high heels, with her fair-skinned lean ankles bare. Looking at her delicate, pretty face, Gavin felt an inexplicable urge to protect her arise within his heart.

"Oh heck!" he thought.

With that, Gavin beeped the horn and it got Wendy's attention. He got out of the car, opened the passenger door, and said, "This way."

Wendy drew her coat with a surprised look on her face, saying, "How come you're here?"

"Why can't I come here?" Gavin knew that Wendy hadn't expected him there, but he had just shown up. He became kind of satisfied, saying, "Don't forget that you owe me a meal."

Joanne had told Wendy on the phone that someone would pick her up. Wendy had thought it would be their driver, who wasn't free then because he needed to drive Joanne and Brian. Then it could only be another person.

She nodded and said, "You are better than others." With that, she sat in the passenger seat.

Gavin had thought that Wendy would disdain him. Hearing what she just said, however, he became somewhat interested in its meaning.

"I am better than others," he thought.

"Did she mean that I am better than most men?

"Huh, this young lady does have good taste!"

Wendy glanced at Gavin smiling, so she looked at him with suspicion-There could not be any reason for him to smile. If it were not for her knowing him, she would be wondering if he was mad.

Therefore, to have someone she knew pick her up would be better than having someone she didn't know.

Wendy's apartment was not far from the hotel. Within 20 minutes, the sports car running with a great roar arrived there safe and sound.

Gavin got out of the car and gracefully opened the door for Wendy, and as he threw the valet his keys, then he took Wendy into the hotel.

It was warm in the banquet hall; they took off their coats and handed them to the waiter. At that moment, Chris's assistant, Jack, noticed them.

He poked Gavin with his elbow, saying, "Is she your new girlfriend?"

"Nonsense!" Gavin said, "She's Wendy, your boss Mr. Scott's cousin."

Jack was temporarily at a loss. He then rapidly swallowed his meaningful smile, politely stretching out his hand to Wendy, and said, "Young Miss Moore, nice to meet you. I'm Mr. Scott's assistant. You may call me Jack."

Wendy shook hands with Jack. After he left, she eyed Gavin from head to toe and said, "How's it possible for a man like you to constantly change girlfriends? I can see the girls today are setting the bar too low!"

Gavin was 27 that year, who would have been a freak if he hadn't changed his girlfriends. He wondered why Wendy spoke ironic words to him. But he just said, "Does that bother you?"

"No. Your girlfriends must love stallion-like men, who are not my cup of tea." Wendy took a glass of wine from the waiter's tray and walked away.

Gavin stared at her attractive back, thinking, "You'd better not fall in love with such a man."

Wendy knew that Chris was busy that day, so she decided to meet Joanne first.

Joanne and Brian were easy to be picked out from a crowd. If they were sitting next to each other, there would even be no need to look for them because they had caught everyone's eyes.

Wendy suddenly stopped there and gazed across at them.

Brian was talking to someone, while Joanne was standing by his side, smiling, without any words. She didn't conceal it at all that she trusted and relied on him a lot; he held her in his arm to protect her, though it was impossible for her to get bumped into on such an occasion.

Wendy drank the wine while thinking, "I'd better not be a third wheel. Just go and look for my cousin!"
