The next day...
What Chris had wished for finally took place that day.
It occupied the headlines on the entertainment pages of the main newspapers, as well as the major gossip news websites, that he had taken great pains to propose to Freya. The videos and photos of the fireworks and light shows were widely spreading among all the people.
The pervasive media dug up that Freya's dress had been designed by Master Levine. They also said that it had been Levine's first time designing a dress for a woman other than his wife. According to Levine himself, he had been touched by Chris's sincerity.
What's more, the diamond ring that Chris had used for proposing was also very expensive. It had been made of the best 4C diamond, and designed by a master, as well as cut and inlaid by the most famous craftsman, which made it as luxurious as the one that Brian had given Joanne.
The fireworks and light show the previous night had illuminated more than half of the city. Some people made a rough estimate and found that the 20-minute visual feast had cost at least one million.
In Arlington, countless people were able to afford it.
However, there were few aside from Chris who could afford it as well as coordinate multiple parties and make it possible for dozens of buildings to work together for a great light show.
Those dirty and harsh words about Freya disappeared overnight and were replaced by overwhelming blessings.
Some said that Freya deserved all that-To win Chris's heart, she had undergone great pains for 10 years.
Therefore, Chris caused a sensation in the city to propose to her, which was a matter of course.
On X, Chris's proposal to Freya became the hottest topic, and on the gossip websites, discussions on that matter filled the entire page.
Some commented that although Freya had failed to win the Top Model championship, marrying the Everbridge Group president was enough to give her lifelong fame.
When all the people were discussing that, the two were in deep sleep, and they spent that sensational morning without knowing what was going on.
When Freya opened her eyes, it was already past noon.
The previous night, Mr. Scott's teaching time had lasted long. She felt just like falling apart when she woke up. She didn't want to move and she kicked Chris.
Chris was also half-dreaming and half-awake, then he hugged Freya as usual and asked, "What time is it now?"
Freya checked the time, and her scalp was instantly stiff. She said, "It's almost 1 p.m..."
Chris suddenly woke up. He threw the covers off and tried to pull Freya up. He said, "Get up, we've got something to do in the afternoon."
Freya hummed and said, "Are you blaming me for it?"
Chris stopped his hand, then he turned his lips into a smile and kissed Freya's cheek. He said, "No. I blame myself."
"..." Freya could no longer refute.
After lunch, Chris went to change clothes to go out. Freya sat on the sofa and watched the entertainment news with an iPad. Of course, the first bit of news she saw was the big hit that Chris had proposed to her.
This time, there were no taunts or ridicules. The comment area was filled with blessings and envy. As Freya read it, her heart was smooth.
She was indeed excited and glad that Chris had proposed to her. But she didn't care about others' blessings or ridicules anymore.
The insults that Joanne had suffered and the inexplicable taunts of her made Freya aware that there was no need for her to care about other people's words, let alone argue with them.
Anyway, it was not fun to lower her IQ level.
Freya was about to turn off the iPad, and she noticed a familiar name on the entertainment page: Rosalyn.
-Rosalyn clarified her relationship with Brian: We've been friends, and we had never done anything that friends were not supposed to do.
The reporter said that Rosalyn had attended the reception the previous night and clarified a misunderstanding: On the night of the annual Lambert Group' meeting, she and Brian's assistant had taken him back to the apartment. After that, she and his assistant had gone to the basement and left to avoid gossip, and she hadn't thought that it would have caused a big misunderstanding.
The reporters found the monitor videos of that day and did see Rosalyn's car driving out of the basement parking lot, which meant that Rosalyn was not lying.
However, that was why Rosalyn was controversial.
A few years before that, when she and Brian first shared a scandal, she had given the reporters ambiguous answers, thus making them think that she and Brian were in love with each other. After he got married, sometimes she had confessed that she liked Brian and let the rumors about them spread, while sometimes she had declared that they were just friends.
So some netizens asked: Are you in a dream every day that you are with Brian? Is that why your logic is chaotic and your words are upside down?
Some even supposed that Rosalyn was fooling the public, and she had never told the truth about Brian and her because she had wanted the hype from the very beginning.
Rosalyn did not respond to those questions, and she announced that she would take some time off to adjust and improve herself.
Freya snorted and turned off the iPad. She said, "Nonsense. You know you are too ashamed to face the public."
Chris came out after changing his clothes and saw Freya's infinitely disdainful look. He walked over to her and asked, "What's wrong?"
"I'm glad that I can see a scheming woman lose face, I'm happy!" Freya held Chris's arm and said, "So let's getting married!"
Chris,"..."
In the afternoon, few people were registering at the County Clerk Office. Chris parked and found Freya in the passenger seat shrinking her shoulders while timidly looking outside, with an unsure look on her face, instead of the determined one when they left the apartment.
He narrowed his eyes, saying, "Freya?"
Freya looked at Chris as if she had just woken up from a dream. She said, "I'm suddenly a bit scared."
She loved Chris and had always dreamed of marrying him. When the day finally came, however, she didn't know whether she was overcome by surprise or something else, but she felt somewhat anxious.
She knew that if she went into the bureau, filled in the information, and signed her name, she would become "Mrs. Su" and she would no longer be as free as she used to.
Chris held Freya's hands and looked at her. He said, "We are just getting married, not signing a contract for the sale of our bodies."
"But I heard that the reason why human beings have to get married is that they know they will never love only one person. They need this kind of contractual relationship to restrain themselves, to impose a sense of responsibility on themselves, and to force themselves to be loyal to marriage and the family..."
"Who told you that nonsense?" Chris frowned and interrupted Freya. He said, "Freya, I want to marry you because I love you, and I'm sure I'll only love you all my life."
"..." Freya was still uncertain.
Chris sighed and said, "Freya, I want to start a family with you."
Freya was touched by his words. She made up her mind and pulled Chris out of the car. She said, "Hurry up, or I may go back on what I said."
Strangely, when she finally signed and got the marriage certificate, Freya didn't feel regretful at all. Looking at the little red book, she almost fainted from ecstasy.
She married Chris. That had only happened in her dream, and it finally came true then!
Outside the County Clerk Office, Freya suddenly shouted, "Chris!" Then she jumped into his arms and hugged him tightly, saying, "We are married, is it true!?"
"You can say that I'm your 'husband' from now on, do you think it's true or not?" With that, Chris held her tightly. He thought for the first time that Freya was like a fool, but her hesitation, as well as her excitement, had made her a cute fool.
Freya rested her head on Chris's chest, and feverishly said to him, "Honey!"
All at once, Chris felt like his heart was hit by something soft and warm, and that warm current ran through his veins within his whole body.
For a few seconds, he couldn't say a word, and he just hugged Freya more tightly.
Chris was silent for a while, which made Freya think that he didn't like her speaking to him that way. She looked up confusedly and met with Chris's soft eyes.
She was temporarily at a loss. Then she heard Chris say, "Freya, call me 'honey' again."
Many people were going in and out of the County Clerk Office. They looked at Chris and Freya with curiosity and someone recognized them-the couple of the marriage proposal that smashed all of Arlington the previous night.
Freya felt embarrassed for the first time and tried to pull Chris away. She said, "Let's go home, I'll call you that tonight!"
"Tonight?" he thought.
Chris turned his lips into a smile and followed Freya to the parking lot.
After getting in the car, Freya received a call from her mother, who asked why she and Chris hadn't returned yet.
Freya was embarrassed to say that they hadn't got up until noon. So she said, "We just finished registering. There were so many people in the County Clerk Office today. We waited in line all morning!"
"So you got your marriage licenses!" Mrs. Norris smiled and said, "Then come back soon, I'll study the recipes for dinner! By the way, what would Chris like to eat?"
"Why don't you ask me what I want to eat?" Freya said in dissatisfaction.
"Take a hike." Mrs. Norris just ignored Freya's words and said, "I know you'll eat everything! Chris has come to our house as a guest. But today, he is coming as our son-in-law for the first time. You must make him feel that we value him!"
"You're just partial." Although dissatisfied, Freya still told her mother about Chris's tastes.
Chris started the car and headed for her home facing the sunset in the west.
An hour later, the car stopped in front of the Norris Family villa. Freya took Chris into the house, and Mrs. Norris greeted them with a smile. Chris said as usual, "Auntie."
Freya felt embarrassed, gently squeezing Chris's hand to remind him that he was wrong.
Only then did Chris realize it. With an embarrassed look on his face, he respectfully said, "Mom."
Mrs. Norris grinned from ear to ear and said, "Come in." Then she waved at the servant while saying, "Go to the study and tell Mr. Norris that Freya is here with Chris and that they got their licenses."
Mr. Norris had heard their voices and went downstairs. He walked over to them with a smile and Chris said to him, "Dad."
Having not called someone "dad" for more than 10 years, Chris had thought that he would feel awkward. However, since he was grateful to the man who had brought up Freya, he naturally called him "dad".
Mr. Norris gladly patted Chris's shoulder and said, "I didn't drink to the fullest last time. Now you called me 'dad', so you have to join me!"
That night, the atmosphere of the Norris Family was cheerful.
