Chapter 411 You Will Lose If You Become Anxious

Joanne's near blind trust in Brian wasn't weakened by those ambiguous photos at all.

And she wasn't in a hurry to meet Miley.

She thought that Miley might have cooperated with the shoot.

Then, Miley should be more anxious than her-maybe Miss Xia couldn't wait to know how she looked when she saw those photos, so that Miley could find the best way to deal with her rival in love.

What she wanted to tell Miley was that, in that case, the one who became anxious first would be doomed.

It was like that with impatient suspects who hurriedly committed a crime; they would always be found out in a short time.

If Miley anxiously went to visit her as expected, what she would be more interested in could be another issue, which had nothing to do with the things between Brian and Miley...

With her unassailable trust, that day Joanne enjoyed her afternoon nap as usual. When she woke up, she found Brian was already home. He was sitting beside her bed and flipping through the novel that she had yet to finish reading, and his well-defined features looked extraordinarily handsome in the soft light.

Joanne subconsciously looked out the window and found it was barely evening time. She asked Brian in surprise, "Why did you come home so early today?"

Brian didn't answer her question. Instead, he raised his eyebrow and asked, "Don't you prefer that I return early and stay with you?"

Joanne tilted her head and said, "But, recently you've come home after midnight."

There was only her usual calmness instead of any resentment or dissatisfaction in her words, which made Brian even more ashamed.

He held Joanne's hand and said, "After these busy days, I'll come home from work on time."

"Well, do as you like!" Joanne stroked her swollen belly, and said with a happy smile on her face, "They're with me at home!"

Brian knew that Joanne wanted to comfort him with those words, since their unborn babies could do nothing but kick her. "How can they accompany her?" He thought.

Before he could say anything, Martha knocked and said the dinner was ready. Then Joanne held his hand and went downstairs.

It was a good chance for Joanne to ask Brian why he hadn't returned until two o'clock in the morning the other day. However, she didn't mention it at all.

She still had the expectation that if Brian thought it necessary to tell her about that, he would say it before she asked.

She was willing to wait.

She had been waiting for nearly half a month; however, Brian had never talked with Joanne about Miley. Instead, he had returned home earlier and earlier those days. There was no follow-up about those photos, and everything seemed peaceful.

As days went by, Joanne gradually stopped vomiting during the later period of her pregnancy and began to have a better appetite.

To begin with, she had eaten more than she used to during her daily three meals. Later on, she began to have an extra meal after lunch and before dinner.

When she was five months pregnant, she even awoke from hunger at midnight.

In May, it was still cold in Arlington. She curled herself up under the warm covers and didn't want to get up. With hunger and discomfort, she fidgeted like a piggy, which awoke Brian.

Originally, she just opened her eyes with an innocent look on her face, because she was ashamed to say she was hungry. Afterwards, she needed say nothing but give him a look; Brian would go downstairs to bring her a midnight snack.

After she finished, Brian would take the tableware downstairs. When he returned to their room, she was always asleep.

Besides, Brian needed to massage her legs and help her turn over, so he had to wake up several times a night.

Since Brian didn't have much time to sleep, Joanne felt guilty that she had reduced his sleep quality.

She had wanted for them to sleep in separate rooms, with the auntie looking after her at night, so that Brian could rest well. However, before she could propose it, she was rejected by Brian with a look.

Brian said, "It's my job to look after you."

His logic was: who was eligible to take care of his wife and babies except him?

Maybe she had been taken good care of by Brian, or maybe she had become simple-minded during pregnancy. Gradually, as a result, Joanne forgot about Miley as if she had never received those photos, and enjoyed her life like a pig.

When she was five months pregnant and went for her pregnancy check-ups, for the first time, Joanne saw on the weight scale that she weighed over 50 kilos.

She blanked out for a while, then she drew Brian's sleeve and said, "Darling, I wonder if the weight scale in the hospital... is inaccurate."

Brian casually said "Uh" to affirm Joanne's words.

Joanne breathed a sigh of relief and said, "I'll say!" She was pregnant and it was common that her weight was over 50 kilos. However, the numbers she just saw were... too high, and they were beyond her imagination as well as her acceptance.

Before she could take another breath, however, Brian calmly said, "To comfort some pregnant women, the weight scale has been adjusted to show 800 grams when it actually measures one kilo."

What a bolt from the blue!

Joanne widened her peach-blossom-like eyes and asked, "Do you mean that I weigh 20% more than what I saw?"

Looking at Joanne's pale and desperate face, Brian couldn't kid her anymore. He laughed and said, "All the numbers in the hospital have to be accurate, so it can't show you the wrong figures. But, what you saw isn't only your own weight."

Joanne thought for a while, then she looked at Brian with doubt and asked, "Did you step on the scale for fun?" Previously when Freya weighed herself, Joanne used to quietly step on the scale, which had frightened Freya, making her scream.

"Of course not." Brian touched Joanne's head and said, "What you saw is the weight of three. On average, you weigh less than before."

The three meant Joanne and her two unborn babies.

Joanne was amused by Brian's sophistry and gradually accepted the numbers. Then she went to have various check-ups under the guidance of the nurse.

Finally, Dr. Hans said to Joanne, "Mrs. Lambert, your weight now is normal. Your health and the two babies' are very good. Just keep it up."

When they left the hospital, Joanne couldn't help feeling proud of herself.

She had lived through her hardest times as well as given up her favorite job and the so-called beauty, just for her and Brian's mutual two little lives.

Five months later, she would be able to see what the two little lives would be like. They would gradually grow up under her and Brian's care, then become a part of the world.

"Ah, just thinking about it can make me happy." She thought.

The other person who was in her best mood was Yuna.

After having the recuperation and rehabilitation for more than half a month, she finally got rid of the curse-like crutch. Although she still walked a bit weirdly, she wouldn't be stopped by Wesley anymore, whether she wanted to stay in a hotel or under an overpass!

When it came to Wesley... Yuna's high mood would slam to the ground at once.

During those days, although they had been living in the same house, they had hardly seen each other.

Usually, by the time she woke up in the morning, Wesley had already gone out. What they could do was nothing but sometimes have dinner together, or greet each other in the garden when she encountered Wesley who had just returned after work in the evening.

In total, the two had spent less than 24 hours together during those days.

Despite all that, Yuna couldn't help missing Wesley.

Previously, when she was very young, she had been obsessed with Rowdy. He noticed her emotions but said nothing. Rowdy just constantly changed his girlfriends, and occasionally emphasized that she was like his younger sister that he would try his best to protect.

She was young then but not stupid, and realized in a short time that there wouldn't be a happy ending between them. Afterwards, she trained hard and performed her missions far away from him. Gradually, she found herself no longer obsessed with Rowdy, and she only respected him.

She thought if she was strong-willed enough, she could forget Wesley in the same way.

However, the fact was that it was impossible. Each time she saw Wesley, her breathing and heartbeats would get out of control, and the rate of her forgetting progress returned to 0%.

She was like an old rusty machine, with a rate-of-forgetting progress that could only load to 2%. And it had to reboot the next day, which repeated the same tragedy.

Yuna recalled that a book, of which she forgot the name, had said that some people were destined to have a catastrophe in their lives.

She thought she was one of them, and her catastrophe was Wesley.

Her sense of reason told her that it was time to leave him. Even if it was dangerous to return to Rowdy, it wasn't good for her to stay with Wesley anymore. Otherwise, once she was sniffed out, not only would she die but also her feelings for Wesley would be doubted, and she would only end in curses.

She really liked Wesley. She would rather the secret be kept with herself forever than her sincere feelings be doubted.

She was loath to leave, although it was a good chance for her to leave the villa and go to Rowdy's house. Even Wesley would have to take some time to find her.

Then it would have been revealed that she was the undercover person. And Wesley would only want to end her life instead of asking her back.

However, she was unable to leave.

She was greedy for the feeling when she stayed with Wesley. Even if she could hardly meet him during a day, at least they were living under the same roof.

As Yuna hesitated, days went by.

One day, she walked more naturally. In the evening she was bored and went to the garden to water the flowers. Halfway through it, she heard a car stop. She subconsciously looked toward the gate and saw Wesley get out of the car.

Wesley dressed casually as usual. The dark clothes and his grim features all served as a foil to his coldness and menacing look.

Even if nothing was wrong, he liked frowning slightly, which made it difficult for others to tell whether he was thinking or in a bad mood. What's more, his inherent dark temperament gave others a sense of alienation, making them subconsciously distance themselves from him.

Yuna was upset and thought, "Why do I adore such a man? Does he have any charm?"

At that moment, she felt her hand empty all of a sudden. She subconsciously looked sideways and found that the sprinkler was in Wesley's hand.

Wesley gave her a cold face and asked, "Are you going to flood the entire garden?"

Yuna looked at the flowerpot in front of her and found that the water was overflowing onto the surrounding grass.

She pretended that she didn't see it and asked, "Why did you return so early?"

Wesley threw the sprinkler away and said, "Change your clothes and follow me."

"Where are we going?" Yuna thought for a while and asked, "You think my feet have recovered, so now you're going to drown me in the river?"

"That's a good idea." Wesley gave her a faint smile, which made it difficult for her to tell if he was serious or just kidding. "Return to your room now, or I'll throw you into the pool."

Yuna glanced the pool that wasn't far away from them. In that cold day, there wasn't anyone swimming in the pool. A wind blew over the clean and clear water, ripples forming on its surface.

Before experiencing it, Yuna could already imagine the feeling if she touched the water, which would be like an icicle piercing through her bone, so she quickly walked away to change her clothes.
