Chapter 445 She and I Don't Have Much Time

Her brother?

Joanne couldn't help raising the corners of her mouth when thinking of Chris.

Chris and Freya had spent more than a decade chasing after each other. But this time, after over half a year's preparation, they were really about to get married.

Joanne still remembered that when Freya had a high-profile pursuit of Chris over 10 years ago, so many people had sneered at Freya, waiting to laugh at her.

She had secretly told Freya about it. But Freya, who used to be ill-tempered, had no reaction to it. She just coldly smiled and said, "Someday, I will leave them no chance to laugh!"

Freya made it. The wedding veil that Chris had personally put on her seriously turned all the laughter back on to them.

As a result, there were really some people who got their happiness by persevering.

Joanne turned around to look at Brian and said, "Wesley and you are here. Why isn't Gavin here?" In her impression, the three of them should all be present.

"There is something in the company that Gavin has to deal with," Brian said. "He will be here tomorrow."

Joanne suddenly thought of something and said actively, "Then should I ask Wendy to come here too?"

"You can if you want to." Brian said casually, "There is a place to stay."

Joanne stopped and stared. "That's right. Why haven't I thought about the place to stay? But... did Wesley just tell Yuna that there were only two rooms to stay in?"

Brian surprisedly lifted his eyebrows and said incredulously, "You believe Wesley?"

Joanne,"..." Well, she might have been too naive.

Brian went to unpack the luggage while Joanne walked to the window and dialed Wendy's phone number.

Wendy was just like every other youth who liked to play and liked trying new things. But as a doctor, which was a scared career, she had to hide her natural character and face the patients with professionalism and authority.

This time, she had saved several days' vacation, which she wasn't sure how to spend, when Joanne called her. So she said yes before Joanne could finish her words. "I will ask the director for a leave when I'm off duty! Then I will book the earliest flight tomorrow and come to see you!"

"Wendy, um..."

Joanne wanted to add something but Wendy had hung up before she could complete her words.

The past few days, Wendy and Gavin, who couldn't get on well with each other, also met at her home. Every time they met, they would always start a fight. Sometimes, it was Gavin who was stamping with rage, while other times it was Wendy who freaked out.

Joanne couldn't understand why they acted like that. As a result, she wanted to tell Wendy that Gavin would be there as well tomorrow so she could be prepared.

But Wendy hung up.

"Tomorrow, Gavin will also be here." Joanne finished the words anyway.

Then Wendy shouldn't blame her when she saw Gavin the next day, right?

It was her fault that she didn't wait for the whole sentence.

Brian finished putting away the luggage and walked over to her. Then he saw Joanne lost in thought, so he asked casually, "What's wrong?"

Joanne said with a smile, "I'm kind of looking forward to tomorrow."

Although Brian didn't know what she was looking forward to, he curled his lips and asked, "Are you hungry? We should have a meal now."

Before her pregnancy, Joanne was fully enthusiastic about eating.

But since she had gotten pregnant, eating became her priority. Her daily mission changed from three meals a day to five meals a day. Besides, she had to overeat for every meal.

She had protested to Brian about it, but Brian gave her an irrefutable reason,"You alone have to eat for three people, so it's natural for you to feel full."

His words were so reasonable that she could only silently finish all the food that the cook offered.

Now that they were not at home, could she be relieved?

Joanne happily followed Brian to the restaurant, but only found that her nutritious dishes were already there on the table. And right beside her nutritious meal was a seafood feast.

She swallowed her saliva and stared at Brian. "I want to eat with you. Can you take my nutritious food away?"

"No." Brian turned her down without a second thought. "You're not allowed to eat any of the seafood."

Joanne felt depressed immediately and unhappily sat down. Then she used the chopsticks to pick the food in front of her while saying, "I thought that you would have forgotten about the menu!"

After she got out of the hospital, Brian hired a dietitian to design a special menu for her every week. This time, she went out with Brian, so she had thought that she didn't have to eat according to that menu.

Unexpectedly, Brian was so considerate to have even brought her menu here!

"I didn't bring the menu," Brian said calmly. "I just took the cook and doctor along."

"..." Joanne looked at Brian and became completely speechless.

Brian placed a pot of hot fish soup in front of Joanne and said, "Come on, drink it. It will be just another three months. Then you can eat anything you want."

"..." Joanne was upset as she took the spoon and started eating.

A moment later, from the door of the restaurant came the sound of footsteps. Joanne lifted her head and saw Wesley and Yuna walking in.

Both of Wesley's hands were in his pockets, and his attractive face seemed to be covered with cold ice, as if one would freeze upon getting closer to him.

But Yuna completely ignored Wesley's coldness and stood by him as if nothing was wrong. He acted so naturally, as if he didn't even see Wesley.

Joanne thought quietly that everything has something that conquers it. The old saying was so right.

Yuna walked over and sat across from Joanne, which was one seat away from Wesley. After taking a look at Joanne's nutritious food, she said, "Joanne, you're only allowed to eat this?"

Joanne nodded pitifully.

"I'm so sorry for you." Yuna picked up a little shrimp and quickly peeled it while saying, "So it really takes a lot of courage to be pregnant."

Wesley, who sat beside them, heard the words and stopped his movements slightly. Then he continued to eat as if nothing had happened.

It was like two worlds at the same table.

On the other side, Brian put more effort into caring for Joanne. He helped her with the soup and food. Besides that, he constantly asked her about the taste and secretly encouraged her to eat more.

Joanne comfortably enjoyed Brian's care and occasionally answered his questions. At the same time, she chatted with him smilingly, which was an extremely happy scene.

They were the warm side.

On the other side, Wesley and Yuna were separate and completely ignored each other. Yuna occasionally talked with Joanne and Wesley would talk business in the company with Brian.

But from the moment they walked in, Wesley and Yuna were like two parallel lines that wouldn't meet.

They were the cold side.

If Joanne hadn't known the real circumstances, she would suspect that they didn't even know each other.

After the meal, Brian stayed to discuss work with Wesley. Joanne was not a bit interested in the business, so she pulled Yuna to leave.

Brian and Wesley were the only two people left in the restaurant.

Brian didn't hurry to start the topic of work. Instead, he asked, "Did you have a quarrel with Yuna?"

Wesley lit a cigarette and kept silent for a while. Then he said strangely, "She and I don't have much time."

Brian frowned. "Has she found out?"

"When we came from Mexico and Uncle Young went to my home, she knew about the relationship between Kai's father and the Hayes Family." Wesley said, "I had asked her to investigate Kai, so she would have found something even if she was stupid."

"What do you plan to do?" Brian asked.

Wesley had asked himself this question countless times.

Judging from the current situation, the only solution was to make a confession to Yuna and persuade her to stay.

But the one whom Yuna liked was Rowdy.

Either a man's dignity or the status of Brother Wesley would never allow Wesley to let go of Yuna.

Only when he handled the spy Yuna could he give his brothers a reply.

Wesley didn't want to continue the subject. "I'll see for myself when I come back. But if it really happens, you won't be able to hide it from Joanne."

"Don't worry about it." Brian said, "Joanne's condition is secure. I'll explain it to her later."

Wesley nodded and ended the topic. He put out the cigarette and stiffly changed the topic to their work.

Outside of the restaurant, Joanne took Yuna into a small forest.

It was summer but it was not too hot on the island. It was even cooler in the forest. The shadows covered their hands and the rustling of the leaves constantly blew by their ears.

Yuna took a long breath then said, "It's like being back in childhood."

At that time, she used to climb trees, pick fruits, catch shrimps, and run into the river with a group of friends. And they always ran through woods barefoot to an empty beach to play all kinds of games.

At that time, she still had her parents. She could never imagine that she would live like this two decades later.

Joanne had a connection with Brian and asked the same question, "Yuna, did you have a quarrel with Wesley?"

Yuna shrugged. "We always fight several times a day. If someday we stop fighting, it will be because one of us dies."

Joanne was scared by Yuna's words, and said after quite a while, "Yuna, actually, I think... Wesley cares for you a lot."

Yuna lifted her head and looked at the sunshine cut into strips by the branches, which gently landed on the ground.

She raised the corner of her mouth and said, "Joanne, that was all fake."

If she hadn't guessed wrong, Wesley should have known who she was when he asked her to investigate Kai. He didn't expose it because he wanted to use her to go against Rowdy.

Last time, Wesley gave her a fake price to mislead Rowdy so that he smoothly won the cooperation with the Mexican.

Aside from what she knew, there had to be many things that she didn't know. She and Wesley lied to each other and acted in front of each other, both of them thinking that they pretended perfectly.

There was nothing real between them.

Joanne found that she couldn't understand Yuna's words completely and was quite confused. "What do you mean?"

Yuna just said with a smile, "Joanne, I'm sorry."

Joanne was even more confused. "Why are you apologizing to me?"

Yuna replied with great difficulty, "Because..."

It was because she was a liar who had been lying to Joanne from the beginning, which not only almost got Lambert Group into a crisis, but also made Joanne and Brian nearly divorce.

Joanne helped her all the time but she just kept hurting Joanne.

Luckily, she stopped before she caused anything horrible.

"You'll know in the future." Yuna changed the subject. "What is there after we cross the forest? Do you know?"

Although Joanne felt strange about it, she just shook her head and replied, "I don't know. Let's get there to have a look."
