Chapter 457 Others Are of No Account to Him

Brian's so-called destination where nobody could trace them was the Mangrove Nature Reserve not far from the town.

It was a large verdant area where they could see an emerald green river flowing through, and sometimes rare birds flying from the woods with their wings flapping. Walking with the breeze, they could breathe the clean and fresh air which seemed able to cleanse one's mind.

Dr. Hans had specially reminded them that breathing more fresh air would do good to Joanne and the twins she was carrying, which was why Brian took her there.

In that area, as Brian said, it was impossible for others to trace them because it was too large and too wide as well, and all that within a few kilometers from them could not escape their eyes. Let alone tracing, Rowdy's men could hardly find a place to hide themselves there.

After staying there for a while, Brian received a call from Gavin who said, "Wesley has bumped them off. Now you can leave with Joanne and go anywhere you want. No matter how many guys Rowdy will assign there, they can do nothing to you."

Brian checked the time. It was precisely half past eleven. He turned and said to Joanne, "Let's go to the airport and pick Freya up."

Joanne nodded and said, "Okay."

Again, Brian carried her into the car. Different from the way he usually did, he drove very slowly that time.

Brian did that on purpose because he wanted Joanne to enjoy the scenery along the way.

Outside the reserve area, there were endless mangroves for about six kilometers. It seemed that their car was flashing in green, which he knew could please Joanne.

The intention was for the natural scenery to temporarily ease the anxiety within Joanne's heart.

Joanne did not disappoint Brian. After a while, she became completely relaxed, with her uneasiness of being followed going overboard.

An hour later, the car arrived at the airport. Freya out from the VIP channel, dressed with a pair of sunglasses and a mask. No one recognized that she was a model, but her charming and flamBriant style successfully attracted everyone's attention.

However, Miss Freya had long been accustomed to that. She walked straight toward Joanne while looking steadily forward. As she was about to hug Joanne, she noticed her swollen belly, so she shrugged and stopped. Then she said, "If only I had come here with you the other day, I wouldn't be bothering you now."

"Not at all. There is scenery all the way from here to the island!" Joanne held Freya's arm and said, "Let's go."

"Let's eat first," Brian said, "Gavin has booked a table at the restaurant."

Freya took off her sunglasses and gave Brian a satisfied look. "So nice of my brother-in-law. You got it. I'm hungry!"

Brian raised his eyebrows slightly and said with an indifferent look, "It takes more than two hours to get to the island from here. I simply worry that Joanne will be hungry."

"..." Freya was speechless, with her lips twitching.

"damn it." She thought, I've embarrassed myself!"

"OK." Joanne drew Freya's sleeve and said, "Sister-in-law, you will get used to him."

The implication being, that was how Brian had always been: others were of no account to him at all.

"Oh, my God..." Freya sighed to the sky, and all of a sudden, she missed her Chris.

If Chris was there, she wouldn't be ignored like that.

After they reached the restaurant, Joanne looked uninterested in ordering dishes at all.

That confused Freya. When it came to eating, Joanne was as fond of trying new food as her, and she had always been the first one to study the menu. Freya wondered, "What made her a changed person?"

She opened her palm and waved it in front of Joanne. "You don't feel like ordering because of the pregnancy, right?"

Joanne held her chin with both hands and said listlessly, "It's no use if I order. Just ask for whatever you want."

Freya then realized that Brian must have asked their chef to take the accustomed recipe there, and as a result, Joanne could only have her healthy maternity meal.

Brian looked at Joanne, opening the menu for her and said, "The chef is on the island. You can eat whatever you want for this lunch."

Joanne's peach-blossom eyes lit up instantly, and she asked, "Really?"

Brian said slowly, "You can also go back to the island and have your maternity meal, as you like."

"Well, I don't want to do that at all!" Joanne picked up the menu and ordered several dishes in one breath. In the end, she handed the menu to Brian and said with a satisfied smile, "That's all."

Brian narrowed his eyes and seriously said, "Remember, just this once."

Joanne nodded and said, "I see."

Seeing her begging eyes, even if she would like to have a meal like that once more, Brian would be unable to refuse. He touched her head and said, "Sugar."

As a couple-to-be, Freya and Chris had been lovey-dovey. While at that moment together with Joanne and Brian, Freya felt as if she were hopelessly single when seeing their public display of affection.

She regretted going there without telling Chris. If only she had gone there with him, at least she would not feel hopeless then...

What they ordered was soon served one by one, which were all tough dishes that tasted perfectly, because they had been made of very fresh ingredients. It was truly a feast for Joanne's palate.

Brian ladled soup into a bowl, the placed it right by Joanne's hand and said, "Be careful, it's hot."

The soup was served in a boccaro casserole, giving off a wonderful aroma. Joanne had never seen a dish like that, so she leaned in with curiosity and asked, "Is it? I'd like to try it now."

Brian had to cool down the soup for Joanne. She kissed his cheek with a smile and said, "Thank you, honey."

"..." Without a word, Freya edged her chair away to protect herself from the lovey-dovey couple.

After the meal, the three returned to the island.

Gavin had arranged a room for Freya. She dragged her suitcase in, threw it on the floor and then sprawled on the large soft bed.

Chris and she had gotten everything ready for their wedding, and they were simply waiting for their wedding day.

However, that was when she had wanted to escape.

Perhaps owing to her parents, she had thought little of getting a marriage license. However, she knew that once they invited their relatives and friends over to their wedding, they would really enter into a marriage.

After that, she could no longer do whatever she wanted, because she would have a family, to which she would have to shoulder responsibilities.

She wasn't afraid of getting married, but she was afraid of her responsibility.

Indeed, she couldn't accept the entire scenario of marriage, pregnancy and then delivery as calmly as Joanne did.

She felt uneasy.

With those in mind, Freya bounced herself out of bed. After tidying up her baggage, she took a nap. Then Joanne went to ask her to enjoy their low tea at a caf.

When they reached the caf, Freya found that there were only Joanne and her. She asked in bewilderment, "Aren't Wendy and Yuna on the island? Where are they?"

"I'll call them here later," Joanne said, "I need to have a talk with you."

"... I know what you want to talk about." Freya took a sip of coffee, then she shrugged and said, "I don't know why."

Freya was not the sort of timid person who would easily run away from trouble. Seeing her like that, Joanne didn't know how to begin their talk.

Joanne sighed and said, "Forget it. Just take your time and figure it out. It will be OK."

Even if Freya couldn't figure it out, Joanne's brother would help her with it.

Freya bit her fingernails and asked, "Joanne, were you like me before marrying Mr. Brian?"

"At that time..." Joanne tried to recall and said, "At that time, I was too happy to breathe. How could I fill my head with nonsense like you do?"

Freya said, "...You won."

Realizing that there was nothing to talk about with Freya, Joanne decided to give up. Then she called to ask Yuna and Wendy there, for she thought that when they gathered together, there would be endless topics.

As the sun set, Gavin ran over to them. He knocked on the window from outside and said, "We're going to play beach volleyball. Is there anyone who wants to join us?"

Freya rolled up her sleeves and said, "Yes!"

She was just wondering where to abreact her feelings!

They quickly gathered at the beach, while Joanne could not join them, she stood by with Brian while she watched them play.

Not long after, her phone rang, and the caller ID showed that it was Chris.

As soon as she answered the phone, Chris asked, "Is Freya with you on the island?"

"...Yes." Joanne gave Brian a confused glance and said on the phone, "Didn't you know that she came over?"

"She didn't tell me." After a pause, Chris asked, "How is she now?"

"She's playing volleyball with Gavin and the others." Joanne could only try her best to ease Chris, so she said, "Take it easy. She's fine."

After a silence, Chris said, "Joanne, please put Brian on the phone."

Joanne did as he asked and handed the phone to Brian, who just replied "oh" and hung up.

She asked at once, "What did my brother say?"

"He asked me to take care of Freya."

"I'm wondering," Joanne said, feeling rather confused, "Yesterday when Freya told me that she would come, I asked you to call my brother. But not until now does my brother know that Freya is here on the island. Why?"

"Well..." Brian murmured for a while, then he raised his eyebrow and asked, "Do you think I was in the mood to call your brother last night?"

What happened the previous night flashed through Joanne's mind, then she flushed and lowered her head immediately.

She shouldn't have blamed Brian for that. She had herself to blame.

Brian held Joanne and sat down with her, then he said, "Your brother has experienced a lot since the establishment of the Everbridge Group to its listing. And he has gotten through all that. Now it's just a piece of cake to him. You can say he will get it right."

"Now I can only believe that my brother can do it." Joanne looked at the energetic Freya's on the beach and said, "I think that I know Freya well, but I don't know why she is like this. Maybe only my brother can solve this problem."

"Forget it." Brian placed his palm on Joanne's belly and said, "Think about something else, or our babies will be unhappy like you."

Joanne looked at her belly, smiling unconsciously. "After two months, they will meet us."

Two months...

Brian couldn't help smiling as well.
