Chapter 458 I Left to Surprise You

After playing beach volleyball, they had an alfresco seafood dinner by the sea, which was followed by freewheeling revelries, and not until they got exhausted did they return to their chalets separately.

As soon as Freya back to her chalet, she took a shower. After that, she walked out of the bathroom, refreshed. She threw herself down on the bed and took out her phone, wondering whether to turn it on or not.

In her eyes, when they were playing volleyball, Chris should have found that she had left. Then, was he looking for her?

She thought, "If Chris can't find me, he will be very anxious, right?"

Realizing that she shouldn't worry Chris, Freya immediately turned on her phone, but she didn't see any missed calls or a single text message.

"Huh? Is it because of the network delay on the island?"

She held her breath and waited for another five minutes, but she still received no messages.

"damn it, that's impossible!"

Freya couldn't help but call Chris.

She had always taken the principle "if my enemies don't move, I won't; if they do, I will do better than them."

However, her call was left unanswered, and instead, she only heard a voice saying that the subscriber had powered off.

Freya became angry instantly.

She thought, "I'm the one who should have turned off the phone! Why did Chris do that? It shouldn't be like this!"

Freya wasn't the sort of person who would think too much. However, after roaring in her mind, she couldn't help thinking that Chris might have had an accident.

Almost without hesitation, she rushed out of her chalet and went to knock at Joanne's door.

Joanne had just finished washing her hair. She walked to the door while toweling her wet hair. She opened the door for Freya and saw her anxious face. Joanne asked at once, "What's up?"

"Chris..." Freya grasped her phone and said incoherently, "Your brother's phone was turned off. I... I'm worried. Did he have an accident? He rarely turns off his phone..."

"An accident?" Joanne shook her head and said, "It shouldn't be like that. My brother called me when you were playing volleyball. He asked me if you were here with us. So, it's likely that his phone... just ran out of battery."

"So, he knows that I'm here on the island, right?" Freya asked gloomily, "And then, did he say anything else?"

Joanne shrugged and said, "He said nothing after that."

"... I see." Freya said mopishly, "You should go to bed early."

She turned back to her chalet, and on the way she kept kicking the sand off the ground, depressed.

The fact was that, after being told that she was on the island-Chris turned off his phone!

Freya thought, "damn! Doesn't he want to know why I disappeared without a word? Doesn't he care if I'm fine on the island?"

"Well, I could ignore that. Then why did he turn off his phone? Is he sulking because of me?"

She sneered and said to herself, "Nobody has a temper as bad as mine!"

Freya kicked the door in, covered herself with the quilt and repeatedly swore that the next day she would go back to get even with Chris, then she sullenly fell asleep.

She had always slept like a log, so the noises of the helicopter landing in the distance didn't wake her up at all.

However, if she knew who it was that got off the helicopter, maybe she wouldn't be able to sleep that soundly-

Chris was in a suit he wore during the day, and he had loosened his tie. He frowned slightly and got off the helicopter. It was easy to tell that he had set out in a hurry.

Gavin stood close by. He looked at him and said, "Finally, you're here. Let's go. I'll take you to Freya's place."

He had been waiting there for Chris as Brian asked. It should be that Chris had told Brian on the phone that he would arrive at night.

Chris kept up with Gavin while asking, "Is Freya asleep?"

"I don't know." Gavin checked the time and said, "It's late. She had too good of a time this afternoon. I'm sure she's very tired now."

Chris frowned and asked, "What did she do in the afternoon?"

"She played beach volleyball, and then all kinds of games in the evening." With that, Gavin suddenly felt confused, so he asked, "Didn't you know that Freya was here?"

Chris said in a helpless and angry voice, "She came here without telling me. Was there anything wrong with her in the afternoon?"

"No. Not at all," Gavin shrugged and said, "She looked the same as usual. I thought you knew she was here."

With that, the two reached Freya's chalet. Gavin pointed to it and said, "There she is. Go on inside."

"Thanks."

Chris slowly walked over to the chalet. From what it looked outside, he could tell that Freya might have fallen asleep.

He gently pushed the door open, and as he guessed, it was quiet inside. There was a small lamp on the bedside table, the dim bulb of which cast a radiance over Freya's face.

It was cool at night on the island. Freya was sleeping with the air conditioner on, while only her feet were covered. Chris walked over to draw the quilt for her, who was motionless without noticing that there was another person in her chalet.

Chris thought helplessly, "How dare she run around alone with such low vigilance?"

Luckily for her, she was on the island where there was nothing dangerous.

Chris went there in a hurry with only two changes of clothing. He walked into the bathroom to take a shower, and when he went out, he found that Freya was still sleeping soundly.

It was late, and he was exhausted after a busy day. Thinking of Gavin's words "I'm sure she's very tired", he simply lay down beside Freya quietly.

As for getting even with her, he preferred doing it after they both renewed their strength the next day.

Unexpectedly, as soon as he lay down, Freya, who had been lying with her back to him, suddenly turned to face him and mumbled, "Chris..."

"Is she calling me?" Chris wondered.

"Huh?" Chris replied and looked at Freya. He waited for a while but didn't hear her say anything else. When he was about to give up, he suddenly heard her mumbling, "I miss you..."

"..." He thought, "You miss me, huh?"

Chris's frowning face gradually became smooth. He couldn't help smiling and unconsciously reached out to hold Freya in his arms.

Freya should be thankful for her somniloquy. Otherwise, regarding her leaving without telling him, he wouldn't have let her off easily.

It seemed that Freya had felt Chris, and she slept in his arms from midnight to dawn.

She had been living with Chris for a long time, accustomed to his breath as well as his face when she was awake every morning. That morning when she woke up, everything was just the same as she had long been accustomed to, so she didn't notice anything abnormal.

In a daze, she leaned into her familiar arms, stretching out her own as usual. As expected, she felt the body she was familiar with, then she hugged it without hesitation.

She liked to hug Chris like that when sleeping. It made her comfortable and safe, and could satisfy her desire to possess him.

As Freya was about to fall asleep again, there came the sounds of ocean waves from outside the window.

She wondered, "Why can I hear those sounds?"

After a while, Freya suddenly remembered that she had gone to the island without telling Chris.

Since she was on the island, it was natural for her to hear the sounds of the waves. "Then... who's that I'm holding?"

Freya felt a chill on her back, and all of a sudden she was awake. She gasped hard, opening her eyes only to look into Chris's smiling eyes.

Confused, she couldn't tell whether it was real or not. She widened her eyes, reaching out to wave her hand in front of Chris and asked, "Are you real? Or am I in a dream?"

"Last night, I called Chris but he turned off his phone. Why is he lying beside me after waking up?" Freya thought.

"damn! Is Chris able to teleport? Or is it my illusion?"

Chris grabbed Freya's hand and asked, "What do you think? Am I real or not?"

Freya thought for a while, then she decisively pinched Chris's face hard.

Chris frowned and said in a slightly angry voice, "Freya!"

"It's you. Really?" Freya sat up at once, gazing at Chris and asked, "When did you come? Why didn't you tell me?"

"Don't you want me to come?" Instead of answering her, Chris asked, sounding neither glad nor angry.

"I don't know." Freya wasn't worried about angering him. She smiled and said, "But I'm quite happy that you came here." With that, she kissed him on the cheek.

Chris didn't fall for it at all. He decided to head straight to the point, and with a stony look he asked, "Why did you come here secretly?"

"I..." Freya gnawed at her fingers, trying to pretend to be sincere and said, "Because I wanted to give you a surprise."

Chris pursed his lips and gave her a faint smile. "I didn't see you when I returned home, nor did I find you at your parents' house. Is this what you call a surprise?"

Freya asked in surprise, "Don't you think so?"

Realizing that she was deliberately playing the fool, Chris knew that he could do nothing to her. He decided not to argue with her anymore, then he turned over to get his body on her and said, "Let me show you what kind of surprise I want."

As soon as his voice died down, he covered Freya's lips with his.

"Uh..." Freya opened her eyes wide and patted Chris's shoulder, trying to get rid of him.

Chris frowned, then held Freya's hands, easily grabbing them with one hand. He looked down at her and said meaningfully, "If you had surprised me like this, Freya, I would have been very happy."

"Huh. I disappeared without a word, and it made you unhappy, right?" Freya asked.

Chris looked sour. He said, "You will know soon."

Freya immediately pretended to surrender and said, "I was wrong! I admit that I did it on purpose, but... I didn't mean it."

Chris warned, "Make it clear."

Freya racked her brains, trying to express her uneasiness with careful wording. She said, "I was just feeling that everything is going to change, and my life will soon become different from what it has been in the past 25 years. Recently, everyone who met me would say 'congratulations', 'have a lovely baby soon' and words like that to me. I... I don't think I can make it. I simply came here on the island to calm myself down, not to scare you. Otherwise I should have gone abroad directly as I did half a year ago. I had planned to go back today and talk with you, but unexpectedly you came..."

Chris finally gave her an easy look and said, "Get up. I need to talk with you."
