Sometimes, Chris and Freya didn't act like a couple. Instead, they acted like competitive opponents. It was fun to have an intellectual fight in their eyes.
So Chris had never evaded Freya's questions.
Unless there was a special situation!
Freya slightly patted on Chris's shoulder. "You're hiding something from me!"
"Em?" Chris pretended that he didn't understand, "Am I?"
"Don't play the fool with me!" Freya held Chris's neck and leaned in his arms. She sweetly threatened, "If you don't tell me, I'll ask Joanne! Well, does Joanne know about it?"
It couldn't be a good thing if he didn't want to talk about it. Joanne's term was close. So Freya was sure that Chris wouldn't want to bother Joanne, whether she knew or not.
She was indirectly forcing Chris to say it.
Chris painfully rubbed his temple, "Joanne may not know as well as I do."
"Well..." Freya looked unhappy, "Okay, you can tell me."
Chris had no choice but to briefly tell her who Yuna really was.
After hearing his explanation, Freya's mouth was wide open due to her astonishment. She couldn't close it for quite a while.
In her eyes, Yuna was just a bit fiercer than ordinary girls. Except that, she looked no different from other girls.
An evil character didn't go with Yuna's righteousness. She had never thought it that way.
Yuna was actually a spy sent by a criminal?
"Damn it!" Freya expressed her sincere amazement, "So cool!"
Chris,"..."
Freya was still dipped in shock, "It's a pity for Yuna to be a spy with such acting skills. If she had joined the acting field, it would have been very easy for her to win an Oscar!"
It was undeniable that Freya was bold and careless. But in fact, she was extremely sensitive to danger. Those who got close to her intentionally or harmfully never succeeded.
However, after so many times of meeting with Yuna, she had never doubted her, not even once!
Freya poked Chris's hand. "You should persuade Yuna to come back. Recently, a famous director is planning to film a New Year movie. The female leading role is a spy with three different identities. I would recommend her to be in it, she would definitely become famous..."
Chris silently sighed, "It took her great efforts to escape from Wesley. She will never come back."
"Well..."
Even Freya didn't notice the disappointment in her tone.
She had the same feeling as Joanne. They just couldn't believe that Yuna would do anything harmful to them. Even though Yuna's identity had been revealed, they still wanted her to come back.
Chris looked at Freya and said, "Don't worry, Yuna wouldn't hurt you."
Freya unfolded her hands, "I know that. She has no reason to hurt me." After a pause, she continued, "It is just a pity."
If Yuna wasn't a spy, she really wanted to befriend her.
"This is Yuna's own choice. We have no say in the matter." Chris put an end to the topic, "We should go back."
After lunch, they got on the plane back to Arlington.
To get enough time for the wedding and the honeymoon, Chris had arranged a tight schedule those days. He went to Glasgow temporarily. There were tons of things to fix in the company, so he had to go there to deal with them.
Freya was severely allergic to "working overtime" and didn't agree to go to the company with Chris anyways. Once exiting the airport, she got into another car and went to Joanne's home in Prime Villas.
Coincidentally, Wendy was also at Joanne's home.
As luck would have it, the minute Freya in, Brian and Gavin had arrived.
Seeing this, Freya joked, "Gavin, did you come here on purpose because you knew Wendy would be here today?"
Gavin took a look at Wendy. Her beautiful face was filled with nervousness and she didn't dare to look back at him.
He calmly lifted one of his eyebrows to Freya. "What about you? Did you come here intentionally because you knew I was coming?"
Since she knew about love, Freya had been the one who always flirted with others. The only man who could make her flush was Chris.
"...Fuck off!" Freya stretched her leg to Gavin, meaning to teach him a lesson.
Gavin smiled and evaded flexibly. The room was instantly filled with laughter and joy.
No one noticed that Wendy didn't smile at all.
She had left work on time that day, which was rare for her. Wendy didn't want to go home, but she didn't have any other place to go. Thinking about where she could hang out and how she needed to choose a ceremonial dress with Freya, she realized she hadn't met Joanne for a long time. So she took a taxi and went there without hesitation.
She didn't expect to run into Gavin.
In fact, Wendy hadn't seen Gavin since they returned from the island. That vague kiss in the cabin by the seaside was firmly enclosed like a leaf pressed inside a book. The memory occasionally emerged but no more than that.
Maybe because it was too much like a dream.
Wendy's heart was touched after running into Gavin there. All the cells in her body seemed to be motivated and something was about to spill out from the bottom of her heart.
But Gavin's attention didn't seem to be on her. He appeared to be chatting happily with Freya.
At the moment, it was like a bucket of icy water pouring down her head. The happiness and joy gradually faded. She leaned aside to avoid seeing Gavin and used a smile to cover up the disappointment in her heart.
But why did she care about it?
Freya was her cousin-in-law and couldn't possibly have any other relationship with Gavin. Besides, she wasn't related with Gavin, either.
The three of them were just ordinary friends.
Thinking about it, Wendy took a long breath. When she lifted her eyes, she met Joanne's smiling eyes.
What she didn't know was that all of her slight expressions and reactions were captured by Joanne's eyes.
There was a time when Joanne had been just as skittish and hesitant as she was. Therefore, she totally understood her mood.
"Huh." Wendy realized she had been seen through and pointed at the kitchen, "I'll see if dinner's ready."
Joanne kindly nodded, "Okay."
Wendy almost escaped to the kitchen. Only Brian noticed Joanne's smile which became more and more apparent. He asked her, "What are you smiling for?"
"I'll tell you later." Joanne smiled mysteriously. "You should first tell me, why is Gavin here?"
"Winston had something to do back home. He just took me back." While speaking, Brian suddenly understood something. "You think he knew Wendy was here?"
"Wendy came by after work with no plan at all. No matter how smart Gavin is, he couldn't have known about it." Joanne said seriously, "No doubt it's destiny at play!"
"..." Brian was speechless.
At the moment, no one noticed that Gavin was secretly chasing Wendy's figure with his eyes. A strong feeling arose in his eyes.
After getting back from the island, he kept working hard without giving himself some time to breathe.
The reason why he forced himself like that was to stop himself from thinking about something.
Because... it was impossible.
He had been wild for more than a decade and his bad stories could fill up a museum. He didn't even know who his parents were. But Wendy was an innocent and beloved girl in her parents' eyes...
How could it be possible?
He didn't know Wendy would be there. It was just a coincidence.
But just such a coincidence made him flip. Striking a deal worth more than a billion wouldn't make him heel happier.
Gavin painfully held back, he had to end this train of thought as soon as possible.
Before he could come up with a specific way, Wendy poked her head from the kitchen. "Get ready for the meal!"
Halfway through their meal, Joanne asked Freya, "How are the wedding preparations?"
"Almost done. There are only a few trifles left. We decided to leave them to the wedding company." Freya suddenly smiled, "Now, all I need is to match the best man and the bridesmaid."
Then, Freya intentionally looked at Wendy and Gavin. Her meaning was clear.
Gavin was experienced, so he kept his cool and continued eating. Wendy wanted to act calmer too. But... to match, damn it, it sounded so evil.
Wendy's hand slipped and the pork she picked up with much difficulty just fell inside the bowl.
Freya wouldn't miss this chance. She stared at Wendy and asked, "Wendy, you are one of the bridesmaids. How do you think I should arrange the match?"
"Um, well... just as you like." Wendy pretended like she didn't care. "It doesn't matter to me."
Freya turned around to ask Gavin, "You are one of the best men. What do you think?"
Gavin didn't answer as easily as Wendy. He said smilingly, "I think... the best men should line up to let the bridesmaids choose!"
Freya was about to praise Gavin when he continued, "Although, that would make all of them scramble for one of the best men! Of course, the best man is me!"
"..." This was the first time for Freya to meet someone who was more narcissistic than her. She had nothing to say. Then she looked at Wendy as she were giving her the cue to fight back.
Wendy reminded in a gentle voice, "There's only a fine line between narcissism and shamelessness."
Gavin leaned over to look at Wendy. He wasn't angry. Instead he kept smiling and asked, "What do you mean?"
"I mean that someone is shameless." Wendy puckered her lips. "Besides, as a reminder, none of my cousin's bridesmaids are blind." Her words suggested that no one would scramble over Gavin because they weren't blind.
Gavin was upset but he still pretended to be magnanimous. "I won't bother to argue with a little girl like you. I'll show you at the wedding!"
"Show me what?" Wendy asked casually, "Show me how embarrassed you can be?"
Gavin would turn 28 that year, just the best age.
But what did Wendy just say? That he was an old man?
"..." Gavin felt pain in his liver.
