Gavin continued with a mysterious tone, "Yuna interrupted me before I could ask her about the text message, but she just sounded as if she were talking to herself. She said that she didn't regret her choice; she also said that Chris and Joanne are not so important to her. "At that time, two of Rowdy's men were standing behind her. She looked as if she was afraid that they would know that she had sent me a text message."
Brian said, "She shouldn't have been afraid if she sent us the text message because Rowdy asked her to do it."
"You got it." Gavin snapped his fingers, looking at Brian with his eyes lighting up. "So, you guessed it!"
Brian had told Gavin the previous night that Rowdy's unlimited bidding strategy would likely be a trap.
The trap was set to test Yuna.
If Yuna wanted to go back to him sincerely, she would never tell Brian about his unlimited bidding strategy. In that case, Gavin wouldn't keep bidding against the Scott Group.
If Yuna returned to him to work undercover, she would seize the opportunity to take her revenge, and she would tell Brian about it as soon as she could. As a result, Gavin would keep bidding against the Scott Group, thus forcing it to be the highest bidder.
However, Rowdy asked Yuna to stop bidding when it reached the upper limit of Lambert Group before the auction.
In that case, Rowdy would successfully take advantage of Yuna, whether she was a double agent or not. He would be able to let Lambert Group win the auction at the highest price and confirm Yuna's identity at the same time.
However, Rowdy didn't expect that Brian would figure this out when he received Yuna's text message, telling Gavin to act as the occasion demanded at the auction.
Gavin was vigilant enough to notice all her hesitation and abnormalities whenever Yuna was bidding. Therefore, they embarrassed Rowdy without warning.
"That's what's called while the priest climbs a post, the devil climbs ten!" Gavin leaned against the desk with his arms crossed, bantering with Brian. After a while, he asked, "By the way, when can we get that greenfield site? "It won't do us any good if Rowdy owns it!"
"Don't worry." Brian picked up a cup of coffee on the desk and took a sip at leisure. "It won't be late for us to buy it from Rowdy when it depreciates to the lowest price."
Gavin frowned while pondering, and he immediately figured out Brian's plan. He smiled and said, "That's great. It's a business with low cost and high profit. I like it. "If there is nothing else, I'm leaving now."
"Wait a minute." Brian stopped Gavin. "What are you going to do about Wendy?"
"What should I do?" Gavin shrugged helplessly. "As you can see, she and I lead completely separate lives. "She has grown up with an excellent family background. But I don't even know who my parents are. "Two people of different upbringing won't have a happy ending."
"I see." Brian laid down the coffee cup and asked indifferently, "You won't mind if I introduce someone else to Wendy, would you?"
Gavin suddenly stopped there. "Who is it?"
"You know him." Brian said, "He is Travis's cousin, the young master of the Clark Enterprise Group. He is now the head of marketing in the South China area. He grew up in Europe, by the way. "According to your logic, he and Wendy will have a happy ending."
"Are you talking about... Connell?" Gavin snorted with disdain. "Old Master Wesley asked me about a project in South Africa the other day. He was wondering who he should assign to expand markets there. "Now I think that Young Master Wesley is the right man for that. Working in South Africa will benefit him both physically and in expertise. I'll call the old master later."
With that, Gavin strode away with pride like a gust of wind. Brian took a sip of coffee, flashing a smile while looking at his back.
Outside the study, Gavin went downstairs and saw Joanne. "I'm leaving now."
"Wendy and I are about to leave. Let's go together." Dolly stood up and patted Joanne's hand. "Joanne, I will come to see you when I'm free."
"All right." Joanne nodded with a smile. After glancing at Gavin and then at Wendy, she supported her baby bump and walked them to the gate.
Wendy and Dolly had gone there by taxi. However, it didn't seem that Joanne was going to ask her assistant to drive them back. Noticing that, Gavin stopped his car in front of them out of courtesy, then he rolled down the window and said, "Auntie, it's not convenient to call a taxi here. I'll drive you back to the hotel."
"Will it trouble you?" Dolly asked politely, but she didn't refuse at all.
"Well, not at all." Hearing Gavin's words, Joanne smiled and asked, "Aunt, are you going back to the Century Hotel? "Gavin happens to live nearby, so he's going your way. Plus he's a hard-working young man, it wouldn't bother him."
Gavin managed to avoid twitching his lips. He said, "Yeah. It won't bother me at all."
"I won't stand on ceremony if that's the case." Dolly opened the door and motioned for Wendy to get in the car, while she just stood there with a hesitant look.
"What's wrong?" Dolly said, "You've taken rides from Gavin many times, haven't you?"
"..." Wendy opened her mouth without speaking. She didn't know what to say and only wanted to hit the wall until she died.
She wondered, "damn it! Why are my mom and Joanne fond of setting me up with Gavin!?"
However, Gavin didn't seem to figure out the hidden meaning of Joanne's words. "Is Gavin insensitive, or am I thinking too much?"
"Whatever, now that Gavin is so calm, I shouldn't be bashful. Who cares!"
With that, Wendy worked up the nerve to get into Gavin's car and said, "OK. Let's go!"
As Gavin stepped on the accelerator, his car got on the road which was surrounded by green trees in the villa district.
Wendy kept looking down at her phone all the way. When she caught a glimpse of Dolly, she found that she was gazing at Gavin's back with a soft look she had never seen.
Wendy pursed her lips and sent a message to Dolly's phone,"You've fixed your eyes on Gavin. Are you picking a son-in-law?"
Dolly had hired a private detective to find out detailed information about Gavin the other day, and she had asked the detective to contact her by texting. As a result, she had been waiting for text messages those days, and she had nearly been glued to her phone.
As she gazed at Gavin, her phone gently vibrated in her palm. She subconsciously unlocked the screen to check the message, without expecting that it was from Wendy. She turned her head only to see Wendy grinning, who was just like a child that had successfully played a prank.
Dolly helplessly clicked Wendy's forehead with her plump forefinger. "Behave like a lady. It's no joke."
"Oh." Wendy stuck out her tongue. "I see."
She looked down at her phone again, while a sense of disappointment spread in her heart.
She had wanted to sound out Dolly's idea about Gavin by sending that text message. She had thought that her mother wouldn't complain about her joke if she liked Gavin as she did. The reason why she had made the joke was that she found Dolly didn't seem to dislike her contact with Gavin. Besides, she was even acting like Joanne, always trying to set her up with Gavin.
She had thought that Dolly was satisfied with him.
However, she found that Dolly might not agree on her closer relationship with Gavin, although Dolly was happy to see her stay with him.
She thought to herself, "Well, I'll never understand the adult world."
In less than an hour later, Gavin stopped his car in front of the Century Hotel. Before he could say anything, he heard Dolly say "ah" from the back seat.
Gavin turned and asked, "Auntie, what's wrong?"
"It just occurred to me that I have something urgent to deal with." Dolly hastened to push the door open and get out of the car. "Gavin, I have to go now. "Wendy, thank Gavin for me."
With that, Dolly closed the door and quickly left for the hotel gate.
Wendy bit her lip with a puzzled expression. "It didn't seem like my mom had any urgent business just now."
"That's not the point." "The point is that auntie told you to thank me," Gavin said to Wendy with a teasing smile.
Wendy calmly looked into Gavin's eyes. "How can I ever thank you?"
"I think-" Chris looked at Wendy with a faint smile. "I'd like you to dedicate yourself to me."
"..."
"..."
"Get lost!" Wendy blushed and threw her shoulder bag toward Gavin without thinking, then she opened the door and got out.
She thought to herself, "Dedicate myself to you? I'll gladly do that. But that's impossible. How dare Gavin make fun of me? What a bastard!"
"That's disturbing me, you know?!"
Gavin got out of the car with Wendy's shoulder bag, then he walked up to her and asked, "Did I annoy you?"
Wendy snatched her bag from him and carried it over her shoulder. "Gavin..."
As she was about to explain it to Gavin, there came an urging voice from behind, "Step aside. You're in the way."
A group of emergency personnel carried a patient and rushed out of the hotel.
Occupational instinct prompted Wendy to look at the patient, and she forgot to make way. Seeing her stand there still, Gavin put his palm on her shoulder so that she would make way.
"Ah..." Before Wendy could react, she staggered back against Gavin and fell into his arms, with her face buried close against his chest. With his arms around her shoulders, Gavin looked as if he were hugging her.
Gavin did have love experiences. He had given his lovers hugs to comfort them, which was different from the one at that moment.
His comforting hug was like plain boiled water, insipid and dull.
At that moment, however, he felt like his chest was about to overflow with warmth. Gavin had the sudden notion to keep his arms around Wendy like that.
He couldn't help thinking, if only Wendy could fill up his lonely heart with her warmth.
He couldn't deny his attachment to that kind of warmth, which he had long been looking forward to...
