Wendy buried her face against Gavin's chest. She could clearly feel her heart pounding.
"Bang, bang, bang..."
Her heart raced, and each beat was able to reveal her anxiety.
Fortunately, Gavin could not hear them.
Wendy closed her eyes and rested her head on Gavin's chest without moving.
She couldn't deny her attachment to him.
She was loath to part with his strong chest. She thought to herself, "When will the heart in his chest pound because of me?"
Gavin was immersed in a kind of warmth he had never experienced, with a desire to move his arms.
As long kept her close, he could hold Wendy and express his feelings for her.
"Wendy just regards me as one of her friends, doesn't she? "It will surprise her if I express my feelings for her now. Isn't it just like suddenly calling a halt to our fight and telling her that we should stop to see if it's love?"
"Wendy will either think that I'm crazy or she'll panic."
With that, Gavin suddenly felt upset and clenched his fists.
Gavin was lost in his thoughts, without noticing anything strange-If it had been in the past, Wendy would have pushed him away the moment she bumped into him. How come she buried her face against his chest for so long?
At that moment, Wendy realized that she shouldn't have behaved like that. She looked up; as she was about to speak, there came another urging voice from the hotel gate. "Everybody please get out of the way. We have to rush the patient to the hospital."
"Another patient? "What happened?" With that, Wendy subconsciously turned her head to see it.
"Don't look." Gavin responded quickly. He cupped the back of Wendy's head with his palm while encircling her waist with the other arm to press her face against his chest. "You can do nothing about it even if you see what's going on."
Wendy was flushed again.
"Maybe Gavin's hug just now was accidental. But now he is holding me out of concern, isn't he?"
"Oh, what are we like in other people's eyes now? Do they think that we are lovers?"
With those thoughts in mind, Wendy didn't realize that she had been close to Gavin until a long time later. Fearing that he would notice her feelings, she struggled to look up and asked, "Why did you say that?"
"He's a burned patient, but you're not a dermatologist. What can you do to help?" Gavin glanced at Wendy and said, "By the way, they're not heading for the hospital where you work."
"Wherever they are sent, patients are no different to a doctor." Wendy stared at Gavin and asked, "Why don't you let me have a look?"
Gavin touched Wendy's head and sighed. "He's seriously burned. It looks terrifying. I'm afraid that you may have nightmares."
After a silence, Wendy gave him a faint smile. "Well, that's true..."
The fact was that medical students like her had seen countless even more terrifying scenes that ordinary people could hardly imagine in classrooms and labs. Therefore, she could withstand it.
To watch a seriously burned patient was like a piece of cake to medical students.
Gavin's subconscious concern for her did mean a lot to her.
Gavin looked at Wendy, who was like a docile pet in his arms. To his surprise, he felt as if a stone in his heart had vanished.
Gavin had to keep a cool head in his work. He had always appeared to be casual. However, he had kept asking himself to be heartless so that he could make rational decisions instead of being affected by emotions.
Things would go badly if Gavin's heart softened.
However, he thought to himself, "It's because of Wendy. Well, I'm glad to accept that."
Gavin smiled and said, "You're dealing with people's hearts every day in the hospital. Now, do you feel my heartbeat?"
Xiao Yun pretended to listen to his heart and said, "Yes, I do."
"How does it feel?" Gavin asked.
Wendy said, "Your heartbeats sound strong and vigorous. If I could dissect it and look inside, I would see a very healthy heart!"
Gavin,"..."
Speaking of her profession, Wendy's eyes lit up with excitement. "By the way, do you know why I can hear your heartbeat?"
Gavin said, "Because my heart is racing. Isn't it?" He thought that Wendy would get the hidden meaning in his words.
"It's not!" Wendy had always regarded her profession as her life. She denied Gavin's answer without thinking. "Because a human being's ribcage is hollow, and your heart is beating inside it!"
Gavin,"..." He thought to himself, "damn! "Who the hell cares about a hollow ribcage! "The point is that my heart is racing because of you!"
Seeing Gavin's embarrassed face, Wendy said in bewilderment, "You can't figure it out, can you? "Take it easy. People rarely hear about it though you may not find it hard to understand. Don't get frustrated!"
"..." Gavin didn't feel frustrated at all. Instead, he didn't feel like talking with her.
"I should go now." Wendy pointed at the hotel gate and waved her hand toward Gavin. "Take care when driving. See you next time."
"...See you." Gavin watched Wendy leave; he didn't get in his car until she was out of his sight.
Gavin called the Lambert Family after his car mounted the road.
Martha answered the phone. Hearing Gavin's voice, Martha asked, "Mr. Gavin, who do you want to take the call? The young master or his wife?"
"Neither." Gavin said wistfully, "Martha, please tell Joanne that I've driven her aunt and Wendy to the hotel."
"OK." Martha asked, "Anything else?"
"No."
Martha hung up and told Gavin's words to Joanne.
Joanne nodded and turned to look at Brian who was sitting beside her. "I think my aunt also likes Gavin."
Brian was lost in his thoughts. He replied "oh" and fell silent.
In Joanne's eyes, he looked strange.
Joanne stretched out her hand and waved it in front of Brian. "Are you thinking about Yuna?"
Brian came to his senses and looked into Joanne's eyes. He sighed helplessly and said, "Yes."
Joanne seated herself upright and gave Brian a serious look. "Tell me about it now. "Yesterday you said you would tell me about Yuna after Gavin returned from the auction."
Brian gently held Joanne's hands and said, "Do you remember that yesterday I thought that maybe Yuna had returned to Rowdy to work undercover for us instead of conspiring against us?"
Joanne nodded in a daze. "Are you telling me that you guessed it?"
"..." Brian was silent, which was equivalent to "yes."
Joanne felt as if having been struck by lightning with a "boom-" sound in her brain.
She had a bad feeling when she talked about that issue with Brian the previous day. However, she felt as if the world had stopped spinning when Brian confirmed it at that moment.
Brian had once told her that Rowdy was a heartless man who could even be ruthless to his beloved.
Once Rowdy found out that Yuna, who was supposed to work for him, had returned to him to help them conspire against him, he would torment her like crazy instead of ending her life.
Joanne would rather Yuna regard her and Brian as her enemies than take such a risk.
"What on earth happened?" Joanne grabbed Brian's sleeves. "How could Wesley ask Yuna to return to Rowdy and work undercover?"
"He isn't aware of it." Brian briefly told her that Yuna had sent a text message to Gavin. Then he said, "Gavin and I guessed from her text message that she may have returned to Rowdy to work undercover, but we're not sure since there's no evidence of it."
"But..." Joanne hesitated.
Brian saw through Joanne. He asked, "You fear that it's indeed like that?"
Joanne looked down. "I don't think Yuna would regard my brother and me as her enemies. So I'd rather believe that she has returned to work undercover. "But on the other hand, it's too dangerous for her to do that. I would be better if she saw us as enemies."
With that, Joanne realized that she was talking in a roundabout way. She gave Brian a helpless look and said, "You just told me that Wesley isn't aware of it, didn't you? "He adores Yuna. How could he not know that?"
Brian sighed and said, "Perhaps Yuna did know that Wesley wasn't the one who killed Granny Wallace. "She must be familiar with Rowdy's cruelty since she used to be his right-hand woman. Perhaps she did know that Rowdy was the person who ordered Granny Wallace's murder."
"She pretended to fall into Rowdy's trap. She revealed herself in front of Kai and the others to force Wesley to get rid of her. But all that was a play directed by her to deceive Rowdy. Because she wanted to wait for revenge after returning to him. "She even knew that Kai would let her go."
With that, Brian chuckled. "Yuna was much more intelligent than we thought."
"Or perhaps Yuna did take a chance. "She decided to return to Rowdy to avenge Granny Wallace if Kai let her go. "But if Kai carried out Wesley's order, she would choose to die." Joanne slumped down in the sofa with a lingering fear in mind and said, "Freya once said that Yuna deserved an Oscar. "It turned out that she would have won an Oscar like Leonardo this year if she had broken into show business..."
Brian burst into laughter. "We shouldn't tell Wesley about it for the time being. "Those are all our conjectures. We can't get any evidence of it until Yuna contacts us a second time. "If we guessed wrong... I'm afraid that Wesley would not endure the fact."
"..." Joanne nodded in agreement because she could imagine what Wesley would look like when he knew the truth.
She and Brian had the same idea: Wesley would go mad if he knew about their talk.
It wasn't that he would go mad because Yuna had deceived him again.
He would go mad once he realized that he had forced Yuna to return to Rowdy, who would kill her at any time, instead of having seen through her plan.
