Connell held his chin with one arm and finally said after a long moment of silence, "The other name for the Long Island Iced Tea is 'the tea which causes a girl to lose her virginity'."
"..." fuck!
Wendy was introduced to a new field of knowledge.
Connell was smiling, "Is it surprising to you that the Long Island Iced Tea has a angel's name while it is actually a devil? Are you afraid?"
Wendy said with contempt, "I have been in the medical academy for five years and only believe in science. I'll never believe or feel terrified about things like angels or devils!"
"Wow." Connell seemed to be speechless but was more interested after hearing her answer. "From your behavior, I can guess this is your first time entering a bar." He knocked at the table and said to the bartender, "Serve this beautiful girl a glass of orange juice."
"Who told you that I want orange juice?" Wendy patted on the bar counter and said, "I want wine!"
The bartender asked, "Which wine would you like to order?"
Wendy thought for a minute and couldn't think up a name. Then she just waved her hand. "Any kind is fine!"
The bartender considered for a moment and gave Wendy a glass of fruit wine after seeing Connell's silent approval.
Wendy thought it would be some strong liquor like she had seen on the television. So she closed her eyes to have a taste but it didn't taste strong or spicy in the way she had imagined. Instead, the sweet fruit smell was spread in her mouth and she felt very comfortable, as if she had drunk some Iced Black Tea in a hot summer afternoon.
Em, yummy!
She licked her lips, then she raised her head to drink up the rest.
Connell was worried, "Doctor Xiao, as a reminder, you can easily get drunk if you keep drinking like that..."
Wendy didn't hear what Connell said. She simply placed the exquisite glass on the counter with a bang and said, "Give me another glass!"
The bartender was very familiar with Connell; he could tell that Connell didn't want Wendy to drink too much. So he tried to persuade her, "Miss, the fruit wine is better when you enjoy it slowly. You..."
"You talk too much," Wendy interrupted him and ordered firmly, "Give me another!"
The bartender gave Connell a helpless look, only to find that Connell was even more desperate. So he had no choice but to prepare another glass of fruit wine for Wendy.
Wendy finished it right away again. This time, it tasted sweet and amazing.
She raised her thumb to the bartender and praised, "The fruit wine you made tastes better than juice. Um, can I try another flavor? I'd like to try green plum!"
There was a smile in her eyes but it didn't come from the bottom of her heart.
Connell somehow sensed the strangeness and pointed at the dancing floor, "Do you want to have some fun there? You cousin-in-law and many of her friends are there."
"Not interested!" Wendy waved her hand and raised her chin to the bartender. "Hey, hot guy, I want green plum flavor!"
Connell had to say to the bartender, "Well, just give her what she wants." Then, he supported his chin with his arm and stared at Wendy.
He clearly remembered that Wendy was behaving normally in spite of the fact that she had been cold to him before Gavin's ex-girlfriend approached them. Wendy began acting strangely after she showed up; she was clearly in a bad mood. But this didn't work against him; she was even trying to get drunk.
Connell was all smiles as he teased Wendy, "Are you jealous of the girl who came to see me?"
Wendy took a sip of the green plum wine and patted Connell's shoulder. "Young man, you think too much."
"Maybe you misunderstood what I mean." Connell gave her a light smile. "I mean she is Gavin's ex and was once intimate with him. This made you jealous. Am I right?"
Wendy stopped for a minute and put down the glass which was already close to her lips. Then she made a strong effort to put up a smile for Connell.
Before she could say anything, Connell uttered, "So you really know Gavin. And, you like him." His calm statement and firm tone suddenly cracked Wendy's courage to refute.
Wendy could only collapse by herself-Damn it, was it so obvious?
"No wonder you have no feelings towards a man as handsome as me. You've had a Husky in your mind ahead of time." Connell took a long breath out. "There are so many guys in the world, but you just had to like Gavin..."
Wendy stared at Connell. "What's not good about him?"
"You're defending him?" Connell covered his chest and pretended to be hurt until Wendy rolled her eyes at him. Then he came back to normal and said, "Doctor Xiao, Gavin and you are not the same type of people. No matter if he likes you or not, you will get hurt if you like him."
Wendy asked subconsciously, "Why?"
"It's because Gavin only sees love as a game. As the girl you just saw, he would choose to break up once he gets bored. But you can ask yourself, can you be so free and easy?"
"..." Wendy lowered her eyes, not saying anything.
Connell looked as if he had known how she would react. He glanced at Wendy and said, "I know you wouldn't."
After a pause, Connell's expression became heavy. "Miss, I know you're sad because Gavin doesn't like you. But even if he did, he will lose interest in you someday. You will only be sad after the breakup. So, isn't it tragic?"
Wendy didn't want to admit it, but Connell's analysis was truly impossible to refute. She was destined to live a tragedy.
Wendy quietly lifted the glass, then she made a toasting gesture to Connell and finished the wine in one go.
Connell shook his head. "Do you have to do that for Gavin's sake?"
Wendy knocked at the counter which was to tell the bartender to make another glass of fruit wine. Then a mysterious smile appeared by her lips. "I don't really have to be like that for Gavin. But... the problem..."
It took her quite a while to finish the sentence. So Connell had to ask tentatively, "What is the problem?"
"The problem is that I have fucking thought about it already. I know he won't be serious even if he's with me!" Wendy suddenly shouted, "But I don't know how to give up!"
What was it like to fall for someone who was almost impossible?
You knew where he was, so you trekked on a long road just to gamble for that little possibility. Would you run into him on the way?
But even if you ran into him, you might not feel better because he would never open his heart to you, no matter how many times you met.
Just by thinking of him once, you would smile and be happy for a long time.
But you would simply feel hopeless and desperate the rest of the time, like waiting for a bus in a crowded bus station.
Connell looked at Wendy and kept silent. After a while, he said in a low voice, "Then, don't give up. Let me give you a solution."
Wendy was already dizzy after having drunk so much wine. She looked at Connell doubtfully, "What is it?"
"Try to find a way to make Gavin fall in love with you," Connell said, "He won't hurt you once he falls in love with you."
Wendy stared at Connell for quite a while and nodded with satisfaction. "Young Mister, that's a good idea! But... are you nuts?"
Connell laughed out. "Okay, what should I do to help you?"
Wendy took up a glass and placed it before Connell. "Drink with me!"
Connell definitely had no disagreements. He asked the bartender to make a martini for him. Then they continued drinking by the counter.
Connell was still sober when Gavin arrived, but Wendy was already dizzy and about to pass out.
Gavin was more than angry but he still controlled himself. He quickly moved close to Wendy and asked, "How much have you drunk?"
Wendy lazily lifted her head and somehow recognized Gavin's face. But she didn't believe in her own eyes and smiled to Connell. "See? Mention Cao Cao and there he is!"
Connell smiled to Gavin. "The little girl says you're Cao Cao."
Gavin stared at Wendy. "Since when do you know each other?"
"Just a moment ago!" Wendy made a pincer gesture with two fingers, less than ten centimeters apart. "About this long ago!"
Gavin patted on Wendy's hand. "And you dare to drink with him after having met for such a short time?!"
"Why not?" Wendy hummed. "You can even sleep with someone you just met!"
"..." Gavin had nothing to his defense.
Connell uttered a strange laughter by the side. Gavin coldly glimpsed at him and he shrugged. "The girl is much funnier when she is drunk."
Girl? Funny?
Those two words made Gavin awfully furious.
Gavin coldly hummed. "Connell, you were born in the same year; Wendy is just a few months older than you. It's not proper for you to call her a little girl, is it?"
"The word 'girl' has several different meanings," Connell said smilingly, "It can be used for a senior to call a junior and it can also be used to express... love."
Gavin looked cold and calm on the surface, but in fact, there was a voice screaming in his heart. It was fucking hell love!
Of course, Gavin would never say such indecent words aloud. He just smiled, "You can use endearing terms with someone you just met less than an hour ago? Hum, young Master Wesley is even more casual than I thought."
Connell had been naughty and tough since he was little. He had fought over a girlfriend with a rogue at school and fought with others outside the school. He was naturally unafraid of Gavin. When he wanted to talk back, Gavin grabbed his collar and pulled him up from his seat.
"I tried to control myself, but I can't. Sorry." There seemed to be iced knives hiding in Gavin's sharp eyes, quickly darting toward Connell. "Connell, I'm warning you, stay away from Wendy."
Connell used to mess around because he had his family to rely on. Although Gavin had no background, he had Brian to support him. Besides, it was known that Gavin was skilled in boxing. If he tried to fight against Gavin, he would definitely be the one to lose.
Connell knew when to give up. He lifted his hand and signaled Gavin to calm down. "This is Freya's party before her wedding. Chris won't be easy with you if you cause a scene and make Freya unhappy."
