Wendy, as well as Freya's friends, had just arrived with other bridesmaids when Freya put on her wedding dress.
The room was soon filled with girls talking to each other, looking as lively as the party the previous night, which seriously interfered with the makeup and styling process.
Mrs. Norris had to lead others to the living room on the second floor to leave Joanne and Wendy alone with Freya.
Freya gazed at Wendy in the mirror while cooperating with the makeup artist. She said with a teasing smile, "Wendy, you look good."
Wendy was stunned for a while before figuring out the meaning behind Freya's words. She glanced at Joanne as if she had been caught doing something wrong. She said in embarrassment, "Yeah..."
Joanne immediately noticed Wendy's unnatural look. She asked, "What happened?"
"No big deal," Freya said, "Wendy got drunk at the bar last night. Gavin drove her back home."
Joanne nodded after gazing at Wendy for a while. "You're right. Anyway... it's a matter of time."
Wendy blushed at once. "Nothing happened between us!"
Joanne said in bewilderment, "You told me nothing happened when I saw you two come out of the chalet together on the island, and I believed you. But now it's the second time you've stayed overnight with him. You say nothing happened again. How's that possible?"
Wendy pointed at the lamp on the dresser and said, "I swear it. Nothing ever happened!"
The lamp suddenly went out before the others could utter a word.
Not only Joanne and Freya but also the makeup artist burst into laughter.
Wendy stared at the lamp with a mixture of disbelief, astonishment and despair-
She thought to herself, "damn it! How dare a lamp do this to me?!"
Freya compressed her lips coated with lipstick and said, "Wendy, a lamp can't lie. There must be a bond between Gavin and you. Just admit it. Joanne and I won't laugh at a grown-up like you."
"But there is nothing between us." Wendy put her hands up like surrendering. "Could you two please stop making fun of Gavin and me? It would be embarrassing if he hears about this."
Freya wagged her forefinger. "Wendy, you're wrong. Gavin would grin from ear to ear if he knew."
From her experience of courting Chris for a long time, Freya could tell that a man could only feel glad instead of embarrassed to hear the rumors about love affairs between him and the one he had feelings for.
To her disappointment, Wendy didn't get her point at all. Wendy pursed her lips and said, "You said it. Gavin isn't normal!"
"..." Joanne stood there, not knowing what to say.
Freya didn't know whether to cry or laugh. "Wendy, you've never been in a relationship, have you?"
Wendy thought she had been disdained. She didn't answer the question and asked instead, "Is that weird?"
"No." Freya shook her head. "You've never been in a relationship. No wonder..." She thought that Wendy should have gotten her point if she had been in love with someone in the past.
Wendy failed to figure out Freya's words. She muttered, "I've never been in a relationship... why isn't she surprised?" She wondered, "Does it look like love evades me?"
Freya and Joanne were amused by Wendy's poor look while she was even more confused, wondering what the two were laughing at.
Freya finally got her makeup and styling process done at around 10 o'clock. She couldn't feel assured, so she asked Joanne and Wendy to have a good look.
"Perfect!"
"Perfect!"
Freya felt relieved after hearing Joanne and Wendy's spontaneous answers. She checked the time and couldn't help but wonder, "It's already past 10 o'clock. Where is Chris?"
The door was pushed open at that very moment, as if Freya's mind had been read. A girl looked in and said, "Freya, Freya. The bridegroom is at the gate! Oh, his best man is so handsome and the other groomsmen are all dashing gentlemen. The ladies in the living room are crazy about them!"
"Come on-" Freya said, "You're not here to watch handsome gentlemen today."
The girl hastened to say, "Oh, yes. We're here to block the door. Forget about those gentlemen. You can count on us. Wendy, let's go!"
It was Wendy's first time to help block the door during a wedding. She lifted her gown and rushed out of the room with excitement after saying a few supportive words to Freya.
Wendy was shocked by what she saw as soon as she came out of the room.
There were more than twenty girls lined in pairs from the stairs to the door of Freya's room acting as twelve barriers, and three bridesmaids were at the front as the first barrier.
"Wendy, you are the maid of honor. Just go ahead." The girl pushed Wendy forward and said, "First of all, show them that we are not to be trifled with."
Chris stepped into the house with his groomsmen and friends as soon as Wendy walked forward to guard in front of those girls along with the three bridesmaids as the first barrier.
All the girls on the second floor, including Wendy, were stunned.
Chris looked more handsome than ever that day!
The tailor-made and clean-styled suit with an exquisite workmanship flattered both his incredible physique and perfect body proportions.
It was an elegant black suit with a supreme texture, highlighting his inborn nobleness and charm along with a matching black bow tie.
The 1.85 m tall Chris stood there upright, looking even more exalted and graceful than ever.
Brian and Gavin who followed Chris were also handsome enough to drive those girls crazy.
Brian had a face like a wonderful piece of art. His well-defined facial features looked handsome and charming. He was so cold and elegant that others found it hard to get close to him, which made those girls even crazier about him instead of dispelling their infatuation for him.
Compared with Brian, Gavin looked much more easygoing.
Gavin's suit, which had been tailored in Paris, and the matching tie made him look like a graceful scion. What's more, his mixture of elegance and cynicism fascinated those girls instead of taking him as a frivolous man.
The three gentlemen had already set those girls' hearts racing. While the group of young talents following them could also make them go mad for their pretty faces and remarkable temperaments.
Chris politely greeted Mr. Norris and Mrs. Norris after entering the house. "Dad, Mom, I'm here for Freya."
Mr. Norris nodded; Mrs. Norris smiled and said, "It's almost time. Go upstairs. Freya is in her room." She looked upstairs and then gave him a helpless smile. "Look at these young faces. A surprise is waiting for you."
Gavin glanced at Wendy who was at the head of the bridesmaids and smiled. "Auntie, it's no big deal. Let me show you how I rise above it."
Seeing Chris walking upstairs with his groomsmen, the three bridesmaids cried with excitement, "Get ready!"
The girls didn't know that the group of gentlemen walking upstairs were either corporate executives or business veterans who could only show their interest instead of fear when faced with those bridesmaids, although they weren't like Chris or Brian.
The bridesmaid beside Wendy pushed her forward and motioned for her to speak before Chris could reach the second floor within a few steps.
Wendy had no choice but to open her arms and say, "Stop! The custom here is that you must get past us before meeting your bride!"
Chris and Brian stepped backward tacitly.
Chris winked at Gavin and said, "It's up to you."
Gavin seemed to have been prepared for that. With hands in his pant pockets, he strode upstairs so his face was level with Wendy's; he looked right into her eyes.
He looked calm and relaxed as if condescending to Wendy.
Wendy was supposed to show her confidence at that moment. However, she knew she couldn't match Gavin's inborn aura of confidence.
Wendy began to lose confidence in herself and then shrank back a little. "Gavin, what do you want?"
Gavin rapped Wendy's forehead with his forefinger and said, "You damned girl! What are you doing!?"
"Ouch-" Wendy felt the pain and stepped backward with one hand covering her forehead. "I... I'm blocking the door!"
"Do you know who you are blocking?" Gavin narrowed his eyes. "One is your cousin, and the other is your cousin-in-law. How dare you block your cousin in his wedding day? Little lady, which side are you on?"
Wendy was stunned. She thought that Gavin's words... seemed to make sense. She wondered whether to continue blocking her cousin or not.
However, Wendy suddenly realized that it was just a wedding game!
"damn! Gavin looks so serious that I was almost misled. It's just a relaxing game, isn't it?"
With that, Wendy stared at Gavin and said, "My cousin's bride asked me to do this! Your grudge against me is equivalent to your grievance against her!"
Gavin felt it a headache to see Wendy respond quickly beyond his expectation.
Realizing that she had succeeded in deflating Gavin, Wendy kicked him and said, "How dare you have grievances against my cousin's bride? You must have a death wish!"
Wendy's kick hurt Gavin. Owing to courtesy, he could only clench his teeth and bear it silently. He stared at her and said, "You damned girl. Wait and see!"
Wendy made a face at Gavin. "Bring it on!"
Chris couldn't stand it any longer. He turned his head and whispered to Brian, "They are too naive. It's a waste of time. It's up to you now."
Brian nodded and advanced two steps. His height and his inborn aura of confidence silenced those girls who were at the top of the stairs.
His glance swept over the bridesmaids in the front row. "What do you want?"
The bridesmaids and those girls all gasped at once. Even Wendy, who had seen Brian many times, was amazed by his charm.
