Mrs. Norris gazed at Freya's happy face, feeling an urge to cry. "Oh, look at her. She's so excited..."
Joanne smiled. She was probably the only one who knew very well why Freya was really excited like this.
In her eyes, it was hard to love a person's heart and soul for over 10 years.
She thought that only a few girls could keep pursuing a man for over 10 years, regardless of what they would receive in return.
However, Freya actually made it. She had not only kept pursuing Chris for over 10 years, but had also made it known to everyone. She had never felt embarrassed even after being refused by him time and again.
"Just say what you want." This had been Freya's life standard.
She never really minded whether others knew that she wanted Chris to be her boyfriend, it was because she thought that there was no disgrace in it.
Even when she was repeatedly rejected by Chris, Freya had always thought to herself:
"I've gotten most of the things I want, like the luxurious apartment downtown, the fancy Ferrari, the latest autumn collection of designer clothes, and the brand-name limited-edition bags... that's because I could afford them all."
"But Chris is an exception... I just can't simply win his heart for the time being."
However, she was never worried about this.
She just simply told herself that she needed to work harder and keep pursuing him!
Since she's a really troublesome person, could Chris really escape from her?
Freya had focused on Chris for over 10 years with her efforts, will, and self-confidence. She was a person with immense fighting spirit.
Joanne couldn't even remember how many times Chris had rejected Freya over these 10 years. She had also never dared to persuade her to give up whenever she saw Freya's determined face regardless of her failures piling. Although her other friends had tried to talk her out of it.
Joanne knew very well that trying to get Freya to give up was like asking her to admit defeat to Chris's girlfriends.
However, admitting defeat never appeared in Freya's life. She had never intended to give up in the first place.
As for being refused by Chris...
Freya simply snorted and thought, "I need no sympathy from anyone even if I'll be refused time and again!"
"Anyway, I'm used to this. I just need to put in more effort in the future. Why do they feel pity for me when I don't even mind? Isn't that funny?"
Freya had often felt sad every time she knew that Chris stayed together with other women. She had never once told others how she felt because she wanted to save face.
As a result, Freya had always been philosophical about the relationship between their relationship in other people's eyes, while Joanne was the only one who knew how Freya actually felt because she had always been with her.
Joanne knew that Freya would weep alone before telling others that "Chris has a new girlfriend" in a rather feigned and relaxed tone.
Freya had once told Joanne that she wanted to add something to Chris's coffee to make him sleep with her, it was because she was sure that Chris would fall in love with her by doing this. And... she also asked Joanne to do that to Brian.
Joanne thought, "Maybe we could have avoided all our useless efforts on the way of pursuing happiness if I had done what Freya said back then."
Fortunately, she and Brian had a happy ending while Freya heard Chris say "I love you" as she had long dreamed of.
Therefore, she could understand why Freya was extremely excited at that moment.
After seeing Joanne lost in her thoughts, Brian gazed at her and asked, "Did you feel excited when we were about to get our marriage licenses?"
Joanne deliberately pondered for a while before saying, "Frankly, I was more than excited!"
Brian raised his eyebrow. "I doubt it."
Joanne snorted. "It's just that I didn't want you to see through me back then!"
Brian smiled with a surprised look on his face.
Meanwhile, the pastor continued, "I'm glad to hear Chris's and Freya's marriage vows. Now, I declare the wedding ceremony closed. Next, the bride may throw your bouquet to the single ladies present!"
The single ladies had long looked forward to this part of the wedding. A large group of well-dressed girls cheered and ran out of the church. After seeing their thrilled actions, the others present all followed them out.
Joanne held Brian's arm and walked leisurely behind the crowd.
Upon seeing all the girls who were eager to catch the bouquet, Joanne recalled a plot she had often seen in movies. She asked, "Do you think that Wendy will catch the bouquet?"
Brian thought for a while and said, "That's how it should be. Anyway... Gavin is of marriageable age."
Joanne replied with an "oh" after she figured out his words. Then, she solemnly said, "Yeah, Wendy is of marriageable age too!"
Only then did she notice that Dolly, who was standing beside them, could hear what they had just said.
Joanne felt embarrassed and grabbed Brian's hand. She hastened to say, "Aunt, we were just joking."
Dolly smiled. "That's okay. I used to joke around like you when I was young."
In fact, Joanne really wanted to check whether or not Dolly would oppose Wendy starting a relationship with Gavin.
However, it didn't seem that Dolly would continue their conversation.
Joanne had to give up now; then, she focused her attention on the bridal bouquet-
Joanne saw Freya in a white wedding dress, she was standing with her back to a group of young girls on the grass not far away. She yelled out, "Ready! Go!"
With these words, Freya lobbed the white bouquet behind her. It flew over her head and toward the girls at her back, drawing a graceful arc through the air.
"Ah!"
Screams came around as the bouquet landed on a young girl's hand. The crowd congratulated her at once. Her boyfriend was Chris's friend, who was also present at the scene.
Seeing that, Chris's friends began to yell and push the girl's boyfriend forward. "Han Sheng, seize this chance! Why don't you take out your ring and propose to her?"
Freya walked up to the girl and whispered to her, "Do you want your boyfriend to do it? If yes, just keep silent and let him go ahead. If not, I'll stop them."
"I..." The girl bit her lip and looked down shyly, not uttering anything more.
Freya instantly understood what she wanted. She motioned for the yelling gentlemen to push the girl's boyfriend forward. And then, he knelt in front of the girl.
The girl eagerly accepted her boyfriend's proposal.
Freya wasn't surprised at all. It was beyond her expectations that Gavin, who was always keen on lively occasions, didn't join them at all. It also surprised her that Wendy seemed not to be that interested in the bridal bouquet.
She wondered, "Is Wendy afraid to face it or is she just uninterested in getting married?"
Gavin also shared the same doubts as her.
Gavin walked through the crowd and headed towards Wendy, all the while when the others were still cheering for the proposal. He asked, "Don't you like the bouquet?"
Wendy shrugged and said, "I don't like white roses. I'm fond of lavender."
"I've attended many weddings, but I've never seen any bouquets made of lavender," Gavin said with a teasing smile. "Dr. Moore, I'm afraid you'll never catch a bridal bouquet in your life."
"Who cares? I'll get married even if I can't catch a bridal bouquet." Wendy gave Gavin a disdainful look as she snorted, "But someone here will never get a wife without his blandishments."
Gavin knew that Wendy was mocking him, but he wasn't angry at all. He put his hand against the wall behind Wendy to get closer to her. "Will you fall in love with me if I coax you with double blandishments?"
Wendy calmly pushed Gavin's hand away. "It seems that Connell is better at it than you."
Gavin narrowed his eyes. "Do you like that yellow-haired guy?"
Wendy yelled with disdain, "Why do you call it yellow? Are you colorblind? Connell's hair is flaxen-it's my favorite color! I'm going to dye my hair flaxen on my next leave!"
Gavin felt an inexplicable kind of anger burn within his heart as the words "matching colors" came to his mind.
He pulled Wendy's hair and shouted, "How dare you?!"
"Ouch!"
Only girls could know how it felt when their hair was pulled. Wendy felt so much pain that she didn't dare to move. She hastened to shout, "Gavin, do you always do this to other girls?!"
Since Gavin thought it was fun, he pulled on Wendy's hair again. "I only do this to you."
"Do you mean I should feel honored?" Wendy got angry as she almost shed tears. "Hands off!"
Gavin knew that he couldn't go too far since there were many guests present. He let go of Wendy and said, "That's okay. I'm just kidding. Stay with me in the afternoon. Otherwise, a cheap drunk like you will get dead drunk."
Wendy muttered, "I'd like to practice this afternoon to hold my drinks, and it's a good opportunity for me, isn't it?"
Gavin rapped Wendy's forehead hard with his forefinger. "Young lady, why do you want to practice for that?"
Wendy kicked Gavin and shouted, "To guard against a pervert like you!"
"Me? A pervert?" Gavin sneered, thinking that she was too naive. "Young lady, you should know what could have happened to you last night if I were a pervert." With that said, he strode away.
Wendy looked at Gavin's back, thinking, "His words seem to... make sense."
Gavin had never taken advantage of her perilous state, even whenever they were together in one room like that night on the island, or the previous night. Although he really liked teasing her.
"Gavin just wants to make fun of me, doesn't he? Maybe he never really desires me."
With these thoughts in mind, Wendy suddenly felt upset, she even wanted to cry.
"I would rather that Gavin really wanted me!"
