For the next dozen tables or so, Gavin drank all the wine for Chris's stead.
Chris only took a few cups symbolically.
Some people rejected this but they failed to talk against Gavin. It just took Gavin to refute their advances. In the end, they could only see Chris walking to the next table.
Of course, Gavin was not a god and wasn't invincible. There were times when he ran into someone who intentionally satirized.
"Gavin, I didn't know that you had such a good relationship with Boss Scott. But now you're helping him this much in blocking the wine for him. What do you want?"
The man sounded as if he were joking. But when you heard it carefully, it wasn't difficult to tell that he was being ironic.
Gavin wasn't annoyed. He just smiled and said, "Blocking the wine my boss' brother-in-law is a less direct way to please my boss." After a pause, he changed the topic, "The relationship in itself is a bit complicated. Mr. Zhong, I heard that you couldn't decide your own company's bidding plan. Can you... understand what I just said?"
The bidding program was the last thing Mr. Zhong wanted to mention in the company.
Not long before, a big project was won by his competitor because of his hesitation and his company had lost considerably because of it.
Gavin mentioned it on purpose and asked him whether he could understand what he said, which was directly challenging his intelligence.
Mr. Zhong's expression suddenly changed. "Gavin, you..."
"Calm down!" Gavin patted Mr. Zhong's shoulder. "My words are not a project in your company and no one is competing with you. You can understand it slowly. No rush."
After giving Mr. Zhong the last strike, Gavin calmly walked to the next table.
Mr. Zhong's face was already troubled.
Wendy witnessed the whole process and prevented herself from laughing out loud.
She took a look at Gavin's tall and intriguing figure and then at Mr. Zhong's. She secretly remembered the latter's disgusting face.
Gavin and Brian's relationship was more than a boss and his assistant, which was known by everyone.
But Gavin had no background. So, no matter what relationship he had with Brian, he was just a personal assistant in most people's eyes.
Even if people saw his capabilities, he still wasn't valued in Brian and Chris's circle, since he didn't have assets or background. That might also be the reason why Mr. Zhong dared to jab at him.
Wendy wanted to do something about it but she was just a doctor in her internship and could do nothing related to business matters. She could only follow Gavin to the next table.
Gavin also took care of the wine for Chris on the next table. After a few cups, Gavin still looked normal, as if he had only drunk pure water.
When there was no one noticing, Wendy secretly asked, "Gavin, are you all right... after drinking so much?"
Nobody knew whether it was because of the alcohol, Gavin's eyes looked particularly bright. "Doctor Xiao, are you worrying about me or caring about me?"
Caring or worrying? Both sounded like the same thing.
Wendy didn't answer the question. Instead, she quietly pointed at the dozens of tables ahead. "Who cares about you? I just wonder how long you can hang on while helping my cousin..."
Gavin narrowed his eyes and stared at Wendy for quite a while. Then he curved his lips and gave her a smile. "Stop pretending. Your behavior tells me that you are worrying about me."
"..." Wendy's face became hot. But she couldn't find any excuse so she turned her face elsewhere.
Gavin's smile became more pleasant. "It seems that it's good to drink a lot. At least you will care about me that way."
"..." Wendy was speechless for a moment. "Do you like to be tortured?"
"Of course not." Gavin lifted his eyebrows, saying firmly and slowly, "But if you want to torture me, I'd be very glad about it!"
"Pervert!" Wendy stared at Gavin and almost kicked him. "Go away!"
"Okay. But you have to follow me." Gavin followed Chris to the next table and his light footsteps showed his happiness.
Wendy bit her lips. Although she didn't want to follow Gavin's words, it was undeniable that it felt safer to be with him. So she quietly followed.
After a few tables, another best man came along. "Gavin, you can take a breather now. Let me handle the rest."
Gavin almost reached his limit. He stepped away from Chris and passed the task to someone else. Then he kept walking on the same line with Wendy.
Wendy tried to control herself, but she failed. She leaned over and took a look at Gavin.
Unexpectedly, Gavin was also looking at her, with bright eyes and a strange smile.
Wendy's face flushed instantly and became extremely red and hot. Once meeting Gavin's eyes, she quickly moved her sight away.
In Gavin's eyes, this girl was more interesting when she was feeling shy, so he scared her on purpose. "I feel so dizzy, can you lend me your shoulder?"
"I... you..."
Her sanity told Wendy that she should refuse. But he might really want a support because of feeling dizzy. Would it be too cruel if she simply refused?
Above all, the reason why Gavin felt dizzy was because he was protecting her cousin.
"Chi-" When Wendy was still hesitating, Gavin laughed out loud.
Wendy surprisedly looked at Gavin and found his eyes were even brighter. He was pretty sober and had no signs of dizziness, at all.
Wendy stared with her beautiful round eyes. "You tricked me?"
Gavin's smile was annoying. "If I didn't cheat you, how could I know you were this naive?"
Wendy had been tricked many times before. But not knowing why, every time she was tricked by Gavin, she thought herself stupid.
She didn't want to look stupid in front of Gavin.
Out of embarrassment, Wendy kicked Gavin and ran away without looking at anything else.
Gavin sighed and caught up with her. "Are you really angry?"
"..." Wendy was still annoyed so she didn't say anything.
"Forget it," Gavin compromised, "I will take the wine for you later."
Wendy didn't even take a look at Gavin. "There is no need! I'm afraid you won't sober up from all the alcohol until two years from now!"
"Don't worry. You're so naive so I'll wake up to watch you no matter what." Gavin deeply looked at Wendy's profile. "There are a lot of bad guys in the world, more than you could imagine."
"I know," Wendy poked Gavin's forehead and said, "And I know you're the worst!"
"..."
Gavin suddenly frowned and closed his eyes, looking somehow in pain.
Wendy had seen this expression a lot at work and suddenly became nervous. "What's wrong with you?"
Gavin slowly opened his eyes and the painful look between his brows was gone. Instead, he was smiling. "Your finger seems to be magical."
"Please be serious!" Wendy's voice became solemn as she spoke, "I'm asking if you're feeling any discomfort!"
"Wow, you're really looking like a doctor." Gavin looked at her with interest, still looking playful.
Wendy took a long breath. "Although I'm not capable of seeing a patient on my own at the moment, having the right to prescribe, or getting the credential, I'm surely a doctor! Doctor Xiao is caring about you. Please answer my question frankly!"
The smile by Gavin's lips became wider. "Doctor Xiao, I just feel dizzy because of the alcohol. I'm not sick."
When Wendy helped the doctor to ask patients about their illnesses at the hospital, there were always people who tried to hide their real circumstances. So she subconsciously doubted, "Are you sure?"
Gavin nodded. "Certainly."
Wendy still felt that something was wrong with Gavin's expression, but there was no sign to prove it right then. She could only believe his words. She waved her hand and said as usual, "I see."
Gavin smiled and casually walked to the place where the other best men were.
Nobody noticed that the smile on Gavin's face had disappeared the minute he turned around.
The dizziness after too much alcohol was just an excuse to cheat Wendy. The feeling he had just felt was much worse than dizziness. If Wendy hadn't been there in front of him, he would have possibly fell down.
Gavin couldn't remember whether it was the second time or the third time for him to feel like that.
Maybe that body had been misused by him too much.
It was nice. Maybe someday he could use it as an excuse to ask Wendy to examine it for him. If there was really something wrong with him, Wendy would definitely care about him more seriously!
When thinking about it, Gavin felt he was even smarter.
At the moment, Gavin couldn't imagine that the day he finally knew what was wrong with him, Wendy would be the last person he wanted to learn about it.
The toast on the table still continued and everyone's fate went on. Nobody knew what would happen on the next second.
For the last few tables, the best men were also exhausted and the maids had to offer support.
The bridesmaids Freya chose had all been friends with her for a long time. They were either good at speaking or drinking. They had thought they would be of great help and help the couple to go through the task easily but they were no opponents to Chris's friends.
In fact, it wasn't difficult to understand. The bridesmaids were truly enough to hang around in the clubs and bars in the city, but Chris's friends were all fierce in the business field. The girls could be no opponents for them.
After a few tables, none of the bridesmaids could drink anymore. All of them were dizzy and jiggly. If they hadn't been supported by the best men, it might have even been hard for them to walk.
The men at the wedding were all gentlemen. Seeing the situation, they aimed at Wendy.
Firstly, they didn't dare to get Chris drunk but the others were all already drunk. Wendy was the only one who seemed sober.
Secondly, among so many best men and bridesmaids, Wendy seemed to be the most innocent.
One President Liu from some group offered a glass full of wine to Wendy. "It's nearly the end and the couple must have drunk a lot. We shall stop giving them a hard time. Can you drink some for the couple with us, beauty?"
Wendy had never been faced with this scene and was given a glass of wine somehow.
"Great!" President Liu picked up his glass and knocked it on Wendy's glass. "I shall drink it up and so should you!"
"..." Wendy was completely confused. "Uncle, I didn't agree to drink with you. Why did you just drink it up?!"
Seeing President Liu lifting his head and finishing his drink, Wendy helplessly looked at Chris and Freya, hoping to get their help.
Chris and Freya naturally ignored her. They didn't need to come up. Someone would help her.
When Wendy thought she had to drink it, the glass in her hand had been taken away.
She confusedly leaned over and saw Gavin. He naturally lifted the glass and said, "President Liu, I will drink it with you."
"Gavin?" President Liu took a look at Wendy and then at Gavin. His eyes became strange. "Wine shouldn't be drunk like that and it's not your style. Is this beautiful girl your girlfriend?"
Freya gave President Liu an admiring look-He was truly experienced enough and could tell there was something going on at first sight!
President Liu asked the question and the whole table was curious about it. More than a dozen pair of eyes directly stared at Gavin and Wendy.
Gavin held the wine and looked normal but Wendy's heartbeat was already out of control...
She was eager to hear Gavin's answer, but she was afraid at the same time...
