Gavin puckered his lips and wore a mysterious smile.
He didn't say anything. Instead, he just lifted the cup to President Liu and then finished the wine.
"Oh-"
Not only President Liu, all the people on the table understood what he meant-Gavin admitted it! Wendy was definitely his!
President Liu was always appreciative of Gavin and happily patted his shoulder, "You have a pretty good taste! But this girl doesn't look like the other girls you have dated before. You used to like those hot spicy girls. Since when do you have a favor for freshness?"
Gavin helplessly unfolded his hands. "In others' words, it should be called as-my karma."
The Gavin whom President Liu was familiar with was skillful at the negotiating table and casual in relationships. He had never put on such helpless but willing expression.
What was worse was that Gavin didn't seem to feel anything wrong with it.
This was love.
As a senior, President Liu suddenly felt troubled. He patted Gavin's shoulder again. "Gavin, you should cherish finding the right person. There is nothing destined to be yours... If you don't cherish the chance, she will belong to someone else. You have been messing around... Oh, no, you have been casual for so many years before your fateful 'karma' came to you. It's not easy."
Gavin revealed an expression of agreement and silently toasted with President Liu.
After his talk with President Liu, which was so catchy, the people at the table looked at Wendy in a different way.
It was like as if there were an invisible label on Wendy which said she belonged to Gavin. Not to mention taking the wine for her, it seemed reasonable for him to stop anything from her.
Freya praised Gavin greatly with admiration in her heart.
Faced with a difficult question, Gavin secretly led the man to the right answer. He not only protected Wendy in the right way, but also left enough space for their future-
He actually said nothing about his relationship with her. It was all imagined by President Liu.
Even if he and Wendy didn't end up together, he could answer him with "President Liu is too good at imagining," which wouldn't disgrace Wendy or him.
He had been taught by Brian, indeed!
Wendy had a different opinion from what Freya thought.
Wendy was afraid that Gavin would admit about their relationship in a joking way. She was even more afraid that he would just deny it directly.
But the result was that Gavin neither admit it nor denied it.
Gavin might not want to get involved with her but he didn't want to embarrass her at the same time. So he explained it ambiguously and let President Liu imagine the rest.
Thus, he not only took the wine for her but was not necessarily responsible for his words.
Wendy didn't know whether to feel happy or sad.
But no matter what, Gavin was considerate to her.
Thinking of it, Wendy smiled and ignored all the curious eyes, pretending that she didn't understand.
When walking to the next table, Wendy quickly walked to Gavin and said, "Thank you."
Gavin lifted his eyebrows. "Now you know why I asked you to follow me?"
"Yes!" Wendy nodded and the words just rushed out, "Master, I decide to follow you from now on!"
It sounded so sweet.
Gavin smiled with satisfaction. "It's really rare for you to make the right decision."
Wendy felt that Gavin might have misunderstood. "Actually, I mean..."
"There is no need to explain." Gavin touched Wendy's head. "I will agree to let you follow me for the rest of my life, okay?"
The rest of his life?
"No, I mean..."
Wendy wanted to explain but Gavin was already walking ahead. He obviously ignored her explanation on purpose.
"Damn it!"
Wendy had to catch up with him angrily and quietly swore to herself that she would never speak to Gavin so casually.
For the next few tables, Gavin drank the wine for Wendy.
Gavin wasn't feeling comfortable at the beginning and the excess wine added to his uneasy feeling. But after so many years in the business field with Brian, he had already learned how to cover it up.
No matter what his condition was, he could pretend as if nothing was wrong to keep the opponent from winning the chance.
After the last glass, Gavin heaved a long sigh and shivered a bit.
Wendy subconsciously held him. "Are you alright?" Her tone showed her worries.
Gavin smiled and looked at Wendy, "This time I'm really dizzy."
It would be strange if he wasn't after drinking so much wine!
Wendy supported him. "Let me take you to my room so you can rest."
Gavin glanced through the whole hall and said, "Hundreds of people are watching. Is it okay for us to go to the room... while so many eyes are looking?"
"I mean taking you there to have a rest!" Wendy stared at Gavin. "Take those dirty thoughts off your mind and stomp on them!"
Gavin lifted his eyebrows. "People may not see it as clear-cut as you..."
"..." Wendy speechlessly observed Gavin for a while. "Now that you still have those nasty thoughts, your condition can't be too bad," then she pushed Gavin away and said, "I'll find something to eat and you can go to anywhere you want to!"
Gavin didn't go anywhere else. He just followed Wendy with a smile.
Wendy hadn't eaten much for breakfast and had been busy for the whole morning. She was famished at the moment. She walked to the table of the best men and bridesmaids and stretched her hand to help herself to the great feast.
The dishes were ordered by Freya too. Except for the cooks in the hotel, Freya invited foreign cooks and a cook who specialized in pastries from a five-star hotel abroad. Each of them were famous in the gastronomic field and could make sure that everyone would enjoy flavors that they would remember forever.
Wendy's hand grabbed some cream cheese baked lobster. But before she could enjoy it, the best man sat by her suddenly stood up, "Gavin? Come here and have a seat!"
Wendy looked over and saw Gavin sitting beside her. The best man who had been on that seat switched to another empty seat.
Everyone else on the table looked like they knew about it but they wouldn't say.
"What on earth?"
Wendy was crying inside when Gavin intentionally placed a lobster on the plate in front of her. "Aren't you hungry? Stop looking and eat."
A maid of honor lifted her chin and said coquettishly, "Brother Gavin, I'm also hungry."
Gavin took a look at that girl and said, "Well, I'm not hungry."
Everyone else started a fuss right away, "Look! You treat Wendy and us differently. Either you like her, or you want something from her!"
Wendy thought Gavin had made them start the fuss on purpose, but it wasn't a problem to her!
Wendy lifted her hand and motioned for everyone to be quiet. "Do you want to know the reason?"
"There is no need for you to tell us. We already know," a bridesmaid said smilingly, "You and Brother Gavin-"
"There is nothing between us!" Wendy interrupted her, "The reason why your Brother Gavin is nice to me is that I'm the cousin of his boss' wife. If he dares to make me unhappy, I will ask my cousin-in-law to fire him!"
"Then you can ask your cousin-in-law to arrange him with a new job, which is to be your boyfriend?" Someone wisely added.
All of a sudden, the whole table burst into laughter.
Wendy didn't expect it to develop like this. She had thought the proper words to explain. But compared with the laughter, her rebuttal would pale in comparison; it would be useless and it might make things even worse.
At last, Wendy gave up on refuting and couldn't stop the flush on her cheeks.
Seeing the situation, Gavin was not that uneasy and he even became even happier.
He leaned over and gave Wendy a tip, "They are fierce and experienced either in the entertaining field or the business field, so they are rough to deal with. If you don't want to be their topic anymore, just eat."
This time, Wendy followed Gavin's words without hesitation and ate the lobster which was as red as her face.
At the moment, only food could cure her injured heart.
The table was full of young people and the atmosphere was great. So they soon got enough of the food and proposed to play a game. They dragged Chris and Freya in too.
The minute Freya arrived, she said, "I don't care about what game you want to play or what rules you have made. I have only one request-I don't want to drink anymore!"
Although there were best men and maids of honor coming to their aid, Freya and Chris had inevitably drunk a lot. If they drank a bit more, they wouldn't be able to play.
"Drinking would be meaningless," someone said, "Well, the rule should be simple and exciting. When anyone loses, he or she has to choose from Truth or Dare."
"No problem!" Freya pulled Chris to sit down and looked excited. "What game are we going to play? Let's discuss it!"
Everyone else was busy discussing what they were going to play while Wendy kept moving to the bottom of the desk.
She could move downwards and then slip away. Then nobody would notice that she had escaped.
Yes, she escaped.
Wendy didn't find that the rule of Truth or Dare was prepared for her and Gavin. Several pairs of eyes were already fixed on her.
So the minute she made a move, somebody uttered, "Wendy, what are you doing under the table? Have you lost anything?"
Wendy sat back with a dry smile, "No, nope, the strap of the shoe just fell..."
By then, they already decided what to play.
Gavin glanced at Wendy and knocked on the table, "Then it's settled. We can use the app of Haozi's company to play with dice."
Wendy quietly lifted her hand up, "I don't know how to play it. Can I ask my cousin-in-law to play it for me?"
"Girl, are you kidding me?" someone smiled miserably and said, "Your cousin's invisible power is enough to calm down the place. If your cousin-in-law comes too, we will be crushed, okay? Who would dare to play then? We will all have to kneel down and admit defeat to him!"
"..." Wendy failed to smile-It seemed that it wasn't such a great thing to have an incredibly competent cousin-in-law.
"Then, " Chris said, "You can play. I will host for you."
Wendy was confused. "The game needs a host?"
Chris didn't want to explain so he said, "Gavin, you advised Haozi to develop the application. You should be the one to explain."
Wendy looked at Gavin with confusion-
Gavin coughed and organized a simple explanation, "We designed an app to replace the dice and its container. After shaking the cellphone, only the owner of the phone can see the number. The only bug is that it's easy to cheat in it-after an extra shake of your phone, the number would change."
Wendy soon understood. "So, you need a host who can write everyone's numbers, making it useless for them to shake the phone again."
Gavin gave Wendy a favorable look. "You're very smart!"
Wendy shrugged and said, "But I still don't know the rules."
