Chapter 517 How Lucky She Was

Wendy realized that the misunderstanding of the relationship between Gavin and her had become even worse after the game.

A bridesmaid placed her hand on Wendy's shoulder and said, "Wendy, now the dance party begins. Go and dance with Gavin."

"..." Wendy forced a smile while wondering, "God. How could I explain the relationship between Gavin and me?"

The bridesmaid patted Wendy's shoulder and said, "Gavin is a nice person. It seems that he's always fooling around, but he's a meticulous man of great vision. The point is that he not only knows about romance but also respects girls!"

Wendy thought for a while and said, "So, Gavin is really nice, isn't he?"

"Indeed he is! My dad has wanted to fix me up with him!" said the bridesmaid with a smile, while her eyes dimmed.

Wendy was surprised. "... Really?"

"Uh-huh! Many shareholders and businessmen want to marry their daughters to Gavin! But-" The bridesmaid let out a long sigh. "He refused them all."

Wendy was glad to hear that, but she asked in surprise, "Why?"

She wondered, "Why did Gavin let go of the chance if he could inherit the shares and businesses and live a cozy life after marrying one of them?"

"He told me that he had fallen in love with someone else." The bridesmaid shrugged. "I adore him. But someone won his heart before I could."

"Gavin has someone else in his eyes," Wendy thought.

She suddenly recalled that Gavin had once told her that he had fallen in love with a brain surgeon.

Wendy gradually got upset. After a silence, she managed to say, "Gavin also told me about that... but you can't do anything about it. Don't be sad."

She seemed to be comforting the bridesmaid and herself.

The young bridesmaid noticed Wendy's odd look and smiled. "Wendy. The one Gavin loves is very lucky."

Wendy thought of Connell, who had told her that she should try her best to make Gavin fall in love with her if she didn't want to be upset.

She thought to herself, "Someone other than me made it."

Wendy nodded and said, "Yeah, she is very lucky."

The bridesmaid gazed at Wendy while sighing. "But Gavin isn't so lucky."

Beyond the bridesmaid's expectations, Wendy didn't realize that the one Gavin loved was her, and she had always tried to keep a distance from him, although both he and the bridesmaid had opened up to her.

The bridesmaid thought, "Wendy must think that she isn't the one Gavin loves, so she always keeps him at a distance."

"That's why Gavin didn't express his feelings for her, isn't it?"

The bridesmaid smiled. "So Gavin really loves her."

Wendy was lost in her thoughts. She felt confused about the bridesmaid's words and asked, "What?"

The bridesmaid thought that Wendy wouldn't understand even if she explained it, so she shook her head and said, "Forget it."

What the bridesmaid meant was that Gavin had never hesitated to start a relationship with someone he liked, and they would break up without arguing once they were tired of each other.

However, Gavin began to hesitate when it came to Wendy, and he even considered all the things that he had never thought about.

Gavin would find that he wasn't as debonair as he had thought.

"Maybe it's Gavin's nemesis."

With that, the bridesmaid suddenly felt relieved-she found it useless to feel resentful about being refused by Gavin since his nemesis would make him suffer.

Wendy looked downcast as if the cheers and noises around had been blocked from her ears. The bridesmaid's words "he fell in love with someone else" kept echoing in her mind.

She thought to herself, "Oh... God... why did I mention that?"

"I had almost managed to forget it!"

"It seems that they're dancing outside! Shall we go?" said the bridesmaid.

Wendy looked at the hotel garden and saw a group of people with happy faces dancing to the music on the vast lawn, which was like the scene in which guests danced at the wedding of Vito Corleone's daughter in The Godfather.

Wendy failed to force a smile. She said, "Go ahead. I need to fix my make-up in the bathroom."

"All right. See you later!"

With that, the bridesmaid ran downstairs.

Wendy glanced around only to find that Chris and Freya had gone downstairs with Gavin, with only several staff members left doing the cleaning in the banquet hall.

It was so quiet in the once lively banquet hall that she could only hear the sounds of the tableware.

Wendy walked up to the bathroom.

The bathrooms in the five-star hotel looked as sumptuous as rich people's living rooms. Wendy found there was nobody else in the bathroom since only the wedding guests had access to them.

That was exactly what Wendy hoped for because she needed to stay alone to calm her mind.

After a time, she heard stumbling noises from outside the bathroom, followed by a waitress's voice saying, "Mr. Zhong, it's the ladies' room. You're not supposed to go in there."

"How dare you stop me? Get out of my way now, you damn waitress. It's none of your business where I go." It sounded like the threatening voice from a drunk man.

"But..." the waitress said, "Mr. Zhong, you can't go in here..."

Young Master Zhong stopped and pressed the waitress against the wall. "Tell me, where can I go?"

The young waitress panicked. "Mr. Zhong, let me go, please..."

Young Master Zhong pinched her chin. "How much are you paid every month? I'll double it if you come with me to the room upstairs."

It seemed that the waitress had never been treated in a rude way like that, and her tears fell. "I'm not that kind of woman, and it's not allowed in our hotel. Let me go, please..."

Wendy had already figured out who was making trouble outside the bathroom. She pushed the door open and went out. Young Master Zhong, who had once sneered at Gavin, was molesting the waitress.

Wendy thought, "Scumbag!"

Wendy walked over and pushed Young Master Zhong away. "What are you doing?"

"Miss Moore?" The waitress looked at Wendy, weeping helplessly.

"Don't be afraid." Wendy placed her hand on the waitress' shoulder. "Go and call for help."

The waitress nodded and ran away.

"To call Gavin, a clown?" said Young Master Zhong in a nasty tone.

Wendy shouted in anger, "What did you say?"

"You want to call Gavin to protect you!" Young Master Zhong pressed Wendy against the wall with his hands on the wall as a cage to trap Wendy. "By the way, does Gavin like you?"

"..." Wendy's heart raced, not knowing what to say.

She thought that he had mistaken Gavin and her. However, she would rather he mistook them.

She realized that she had fallen in love with Gavin.

"Oh, so you admit it, don't you?" Young Master Zhong suddenly leaned over and got closer to Wendy. "Frankly, I dislike him."

Wendy looked Mr. Zhong up and down and said with a sneer, "I can see that. Gavin is better than you in all aspects. You know you're no match for him so you're upset about yourself."

"What aspects?" asked Young Master Zhong with a fierce look.

"Don't you know?" Wendy decided to anger him to death and said, "Gavin is a top-notch good-looking man so you're a total loser when it comes to appearance. As for working ability, a person like you who once hesitated over bidding plans can't even run errands for Lambert Group, let alone work as an executive assistant!"

Her words had completely disparaged Young Master Zhong's appearance and working abilities.

He had never been insulted like that in his life. Owing to his family background, he had always been treated with respect even though others thought he was incompetent.

He thought, "Wendy said that I'm no good as an assistant. How dare she?"

Young Master Zhong lifted Wendy's chin while glaring at her. "What do you think Gavin will do if I do something to you?"

Wendy smiled. "I don't know."

With that, she suddenly raised her hand and slapped Young Master Zhong hard across the face.

After that, Wendy said indifferently, "But I won't let you off."

It was the first time that Young Master Zhong had ever been struck; it was also the first time he had ever been slapped by a woman.

Young Master Zhong touched his cheek with a smile and suddenly glared at her. "You must have a death wish!"

"You must have a death wish!" shouted Wendy back and looked right into Young Master Zhong's eyes. "If you dare to hurt me..."

"So what? Are you going to call the police?" Young Master Zhong shrugged. "Frankly, they can't do anything to me even if you call them."

"Is that so?" Wendy grinned. "Frankly, I'm not going to call the police. But you will still end up in pain!"

"You are such a trash talker." Young Master Zhong grabbed Wendy's hand. "So show me what you're gonna do!" With that, he dragged Wendy to leave with her.

Realizing that she would be in danger if she was dragged away by Mr. Zhong, Wendy tried her best to struggle. However, she failed because her strength was no match for a grown man's.

She wondered, "damn, I asked the waitress to call for help. Where the hell is she?"

"Why is no one coming over?"

"Gavin!" shouted Wendy in despair when she was about to be dragged into the elevator.

Wendy didn't know why she had called Gavin since Chris and Freya were not far away from her.

"You might as well save your energy and show me later..." said Young Master Zhong with a lecherous smile.

Young Master Zhong paled with sudden fear before he could finish his words...
