Gavin made up his mind to pursue Wendy in less than a second.
A few years back, he had once laughed at Brian, seeing how he selflessly helped Joanne.
Later, seeing that Brian threw tens of billions into a project without hesitation while he couldn't persuade himself to show up before Joanne and naturally be a part of Joanne's life, he laughed even louder-
"Hahaha, you must be pretending to be calm and bloody like you do when you're dealing with business, aren't you?"
"Hahaha, can it be of any use to stand at the highest place of the city to looking at the direction of her school? You can't see all the way there! Maybe she's hitting on some guy now!"
"Hahaha..."
Unexpectedly, Brian kept silent despite the laughter. He just stared at Gavin and said meaningfully, "You don't understand and I don't want you to know."
Until then Gavin realized that Brian didn't want him to feel helpless in his love life.
There was a sentence which could conclude his experience-One would pay back someday.
At the moment, not only did Gavin understand Brian's mood back then, he had almost experienced the same things!
In the love field, he used to call himself natural and unrestrained. When he fell for someone, he would get her. When the feeling was gone, he would just break up with her. At the beginning, both of them were willing to devote themselves. In the end, they could depart peacefully. Then he could turn to another girl and keep playing the game.
He had such a carefree view of love!
Gavin had once felt depressed, since a smart guy like Brian couldn't even do that. He would only allow Joanne to control his entire life?
Gavin had finally understood everything.
Back then, Brian didn't just have feelings for Joanne. He was completely in love with her.
Brian didn't fail to be casual, but he didn't want to play it as a game. He wanted to maintain that relationship with Joanne and stay by her side for the rest of his life.
So, when something which was related to Joanne happened, Brian would start to hesitate and wonder if he should show up in front of Joanne. He started to think about what he meant to Joanne, just like the way Gavin wondered how Wendy thought about him.
By then, Brian's thoughts might have been simple-if he was unnecessary to Joanne, appearing in front of her would be meaningless.
He would rather just stop there and protect Joanne from a place where she wouldn't notice. He didn't want to give himself too much hope or to make trouble for her.
After all, Joanne didn't belong to anyone then and he didn't have to worry too much.
Until the time when he heard that Chris was about to marry her off, Brian suddenly stood up and said with certainty, "She can never marry someone else!"
Back then, Gavin couldn't understand that Brian finally realized he couldn't see Joanne with someone else. He even joked, "Ow, you finally broke out?"
Actually, he had almost cracked earlier.
He just went to the garden for a while and the waiter hurriedly went to him and said, "Special Assistant Gavin, something has happened to Young Miss Moore!"
He thought it would be a big deal and was keyed up, "What happened to her?!"
The waiter panted and told him the whole thing briefly. After hearing the explanation, his heart went back to where it belonged but a furious flame was burning in his chest.
At that moment, his mood had to be the same as the way Brian felt when he heard that Joanne was about to get married.
He had secretly observed Wendy's actions. When she was happy, he would play with her and see her face turning red. Then she would escape from his eyes, which was an enormous enjoyment for him.
Of course, he had never thought to do anything beyond that to her.
But Zhong Lue who just came out halfway-such a toad wanted to touch his little girl?
"damn it! Did he ask me?"
At the moment, Gavin almost placed Zhong Lue's name into the death list.
It was also at the moment that Gavin realized his hesitation was just like the way Brian had acted a few years before, which was absolutely unnecessary.
When Brian secretly watched Joanne, she was also obsessed with him. If Brian hadn't considered that much, he wouldn't have spent so many nights with mountainous files and would have taken her back home sooner!
Gavin wasn't sure if he was as lucky as Brian whose loved one also loved him in return.
But after what just happened, he was pretty sure that he couldn't accept seeing Wendy having a more intimate behavior with someone other than him, just like Brian couldn't accept Joanne being with someone else.
He saw Wendy first. He had not made a move and Wendy had yet to refuse him. So everyone who wanted to touch her was seeking for death!
Since it was so, why wouldn't he give it a try?
Although Wendy had emphasized many times that he wasn't her type, he was Gavin who could be changeable and perfect. There had to be something in him which could make Wendy like him.
He could handle all the deep and difficult girls he had met.
So this time he didn't believe he couldn't get Wendy with his whole and true heart.
The worst consequence was to be refused and being sad for a while.
Anyway, he hadn't been hurt by a girl in all his life. He wouldn't mind if the one who would hurt him was Wendy.
He would just pursue her, or it could be a way for him to experience the freshness.
Above all, he didn't want to see Wendy with someone else.
He didn't have a mother like Iris who would play the matchmaking role, nor did he have a brother like Chris who would give him a push. He could only depend on himself! He didn't believe he couldn't get Wendy who looked silly the minute she took off her white gown, being the experienced man in the arena of love he was!
Thinking of that, Gavin couldn't help laughing.
Wendy stared at Gavin for quite a while and found his expression more and more bizarre. When she was about to ask him what was wrong, she heard his laughter.
Wendy was scared. She patted Gavin's shoulder and asked, "Are you all right?"
Gavin came back to himself and looked at Wendy deeply. "I'm okay. But... there is something about you."
Wendy didn't understand. "What can be wrong about me?"
"..."
Gavin didn't say anything. He just smiled mysteriously.
She was such a silly girl. He would start pursuing her and it was great thing for her to celebrate!
In Wendy's eyes, Gavin's smile was a great puzzle, so she just ignored it. She pushed Gavin back to the hotel, then he pressed him on the couch and asked the waiter to bring her the first aid kit to her.
"You will take care of my wound?" Gavin took a look at the wound which was simply wrapped with a handkerchief and sighed. "I would have let Zhong Lue cut deeper if I knew this would happen."
"Give me your hand." Wendy lifted Gavin's hand and unwrapped the handkerchief to look at the wound. Then she frowned and said seriously, "You would need stitching if it were any deeper."
Gavin gladly narrowed his eyes, "I'm willing if you do the stitching for me!"
Wendy raised her eyes to look at Gavin. "I would gladly stitch your mouth shut."
"..." Gavin's lips trembled and his expression became quite troubled.
Then a waiter from the hotel ran over in a hurry with a first aid kit in tow. "Here is the first aid kit, Miss Moore."
"Thank you." Wendy opened the box and quickly found the medicine and things needed for treating the wound. She naturally said in a soft voice, "Relax. It won't hurt." Then she put on the gloves, moistened the cotton bud with disinfectant and skillfully treated the wound.
It prickled a bit but Gavin could completely neglect the pain because Wendy's appeal was stronger than any discomfort.
Gavin had seen Wendy wearing her white uniform but he had never seen her at work.
She then noticed how she could be terribly stunning when she was curing others.
She leaned over on the edge of the couch and slightly looked down. Some hair fell out from her hairdo which was dark, bright and soft. Her entire body was covered by the dim light, looking as beautiful as a dream.
Gradually, Gavin was unable to sense his surroundings. His eyes and heart were all filled with Wendy.
If Wendy raised her head, she might have even noticed the love in Gavin's eyes.
But due to the habit she had formed in her job, all of Wendy's attention was fixed on the wound. After sterilizing it, she said after wrapping it, "The wound isn't shallow. You're not supposed to touch water in the next few days if there's any swelling."
"Can I ask you to handle it for me if there's any swelling?" Gavin asked.
"Do you really want to be tortured?" Wendy stared at Gavin and said, "If that happens, you can find a doctor in the surgical department. I'm in the department of cardiac surgery."
"Can you make an exception given our relationship?" Gavin really looked very disappointed. "Doctor Xiao, my heart feels a bit of pain."
Wendy helplessly looked at Gavin. "Doctor Xiao's heart feels tired!"
Gavin smiled and the joy was coming from deep in his eyes. He just stared at Wendy with those joyful eyes.
Wendy's heartbeat helplessly sped up again.
It didn't need asking. She also didn't know the reason why she couldn't control herself.
At last, Wendy had to hide the strange feeling in her heart and set everything in the first aid kit back in order. Then she pretended to be serious and said, "Your wound will get better quickly, as long as the medicine is applied and the dressing changed regularly. I will go to the nearest drugstore to buy some for you later."
"Only buying will not do, you also have to do the treatment." Gavin sounded natural which was actually unreasonable.
Wendy stared at Gavin strangely. "Changing the medicine is simple. You can..."
"No," Gavin directly interrupted Wendy without hesitation, "I can't."
"..." This time, Wendy was one hundred percent sure-Gavin was being unreasonable.
But he lifted his chin and leaned on the couch. He looked impish, serious and kind of like a child, which left her no way to get angry.
Gavin felt happy and narrowed his eyes. "Since you're not talking, I will take that as a yes."
Wendy couldn't deny it, "I..."
"Okay," Gavin stopped, "I know you are thankful to me because I saved you. Don't be too polite. I promised your cousin Joanne that I would take care of you."
"He did it all just because he promised my cousin that he would?"
All the affection suddenly stopped and Wendy's heart rate slowly went down...
