Chapter 522 Joanne's Rival in Love (1)

Wendy was skilled at adjusting her own condition. She quickly covered the depression in her heart and presented a smile on her face.

She pouted to Gavin and said, "No matter what you promised to others, saving me was just a simple thing."

Gavin crossed his arms in front of his chest and casually looked up and down at Wendy. "Your behavior will make me misunderstand that you really appreciate me a lot."

Wendy looked into Gavin's eyes and said directly, "I do."

"..." Gavin stopped and didn't know what to say.

Wendy continued frankly, "Although I don't like any of the things you did before, I really have to thank you this time. If you hadn't arrived in time, I would have been helpless against Zhong Lue. And I can't imagine... what would have happened next."

Gavin revealed an unexpected mysterious smile and said, "So you were also scared of death."

"..." Wendy opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but she finally stopped herself.

She wasn't scared of death.

She just rejected any other men except for Gavin.

But if she said such a thing directly, would Gavin laugh to death?

"Stop talking about that. I'll buy the medicine for you." Then Wendy turned around to go outside.

"Wait a minute," Gavin pointed at the dress Wendy wore and said, "Do you want to buy the medicine while dressed like that?"

Wendy lowered her head to look at herself. The tube top dress that barely covered her knees looked grand and sexy. It was really improper to buy medicine in that attire.

She shrugged. "But I don't have any other clothes to wear."

Gavin quickly took off the overcoat of his suit and covered Wendy's slim shoulders with it. "Let's go. I'll go there with you."

Wendy just felt the warmth surrounding her back and shoulders. She unconsciously pulled the coat closer and smelled the slight perfume, which was the same Gavin was wearing that evening.

She didn't know whether it was out of greed or perversion. But she subconsciously pulled the clothes tighter.

She had known Gavin for a long time. Except for the unexpected kiss on the island, she had no other intimate interaction with him. Even a hug would be impossible for her to think about.

This time, she could consider this as if Gavin were hugging her from the back.

"What are you doing?" Gavin urged, "Let's go."

Wendy caught the collar in case it would fall down and followed Gavin. She asked, "Is it all right for you to leave? It's such a grand wedding with so many guests. The best men must have some sort of duties."

Gavin took a look at the crowd-laden garden and smiled. "You cousin won't stop me if he knows I am with you."

Wendy didn't know the reason why Gavin was so confident and murmured, "He definitely won't stop you. He will only ask someone to beat you up!"

Gavin lifted his eyebrows. "Even if your cousin tries to do that, will you let that happen?"

Wendy didn't hesitate at all as she replied, "Your life has nothing to do with me. Does my willingness matter?"

Gavin felt hurt. "You're a heartless damned girl. I ran to save you at the speed I use when I'm racing."

Wendy would only see that racing word as a metaphor. But there was one thing that she was really curious about-

"I told the girl to find someone. She knew who I was, since she called me Miss Moore. But why did she look for you instead of my cousin?"

She was Chris's cousin. Being the case, the waitress should have looked for Chris to save her. Gavin shouldn't have been the first choice.

But why was Gavin was the one who came in the end?"

The reason was simple-even the waitress could feel Gavin treated Wendy differently.

But if he told her the truth, Gavin could foresee that he would be subject to another thrashing. So, he found a good excuse for himself. "Brian owns this hotel and I always deal with the cooperative companies in the hotel so I'm pretty familiar with the staff. What happened then was an emergency. If you were the waitress, who will you look for to deal with it?"

Wendy didn't care about the complete answer he gave. She just focused on the first sentence. "You mean, you're very familiar with that waitress?"

Gavin didn't expect Wendy to focus on that. He raised his lips and said, "Well, are you jealous?"

Then Wendy realized she was a bit jealous.

"But only idiots would admit that! Hum!"

Finally, Wendy chose to cover it up. "No wonder she looked for you. You were already familiar with each other."

Gavin found that Wendy had misunderstood and he tried to explain, "It's not what you think..."

Wendy lifted her hand as a signal for Gavin to stop talking and she said casually, "I don't mind what kind of relationship you two have. I just want to know where the nearest drugstore is."

Seeing his explanation frustrated, Gavin could only take Wendy to the nearest drugstore first.

Once they entered the store, Wendy skillfully named a few types of medicine and grabbed some bandages and gauze. Then she paid off the check and passed the stuff to Gavin. "Don't forget to take it home."

Gavin took over the plastic bag, then she looked at Wendy delightedly and asked, "When will you change the bandages for me?"

Wendy didn't know if she had heard it wrong. Gavin seemed to be looking forward to it.

She didn't think much of it. Instead, she just ignored Gavin's strangeness in the way she had been used to. Then she looked professional and said, "After the wedding, I will go back home after I treat the wound again. You won't have to refresh it again today. Just remember to keep it dry. As for tomorrow... we can talk about it later!"

Then they walked out of the drugstore and went back to the bustling hotel. She felt particularly happy.

Maybe it was because she knew for sure that she could see Gavin on the next day.

When she thought seriously about it, she had known Gavin for a while, but she and Gavin basically wouldn't see each other in private except for the encounter at Brian's house and the few days spent on the island.

There was a period when all of Lambert Group was extremely busy. Most of the times she visited Joanne with a little expectation, she didn't run into Gavin "by accident" and had to go home disappointed.

She still remembered that disappointed feeling. It was as if seeing that her favorite toy in the shop window had been bought by someone else when she was little. It wasn't a big deal. But it made her world become grey. She didn't want to talk or do anything. She just wanted to think about Gavin.

At that time, she was really crazily... missing him.

But at the moment she was pretty sure that she could see Gavin on the next day.

Um, how could she be unhappy?

Right then, Gavin caught up with Wendy from behind. "I have a question for you."

Wendy allowed it generously. "Just say it."

"You clearly knew that you couldn't handle Zhong Lue and you didn't know the waitress at the hotel. Why did you help her?" Gavin said, "Under such circumstances, the best thing to do is to call security."

Wendy thought about it and said, "I always want to be a hero! When I run into situations like that, I don't have the time to call security. I can only be a hero and protecting her myself!"

Gavin smiled. "Really?"

Of course not.

Wendy had been through the horrible training of the medical academy. No matter how much the patients were in pain, she could also handle their problems and cure their wounds firmly. In that case, she definitely knew that calling security was the best choice.

But she just couldn't forget the way Zhong Lue joked about Gavin.

She could laugh at Gavin as loudly as she wanted to but others couldn't, not to mention Zhong Lue was a hundred times worse than Gavin!

Therefore, she was actually defending Gavin, rather than helping that waitress. After all, she had Chris and Brian to rely on. She could easily get half of Zhong Lue's life easily so she wasn't afraid at all.

But it would surely sound stupid if she said it out loud, and she might even be laughed at by Gavin.

So, it was better to make him think of her as a chivalrous girl.

Gavin and Wendy went back to the hotel and ran into the waitress who was showing Gavin's bunch of friends out. The girl looked troubled and Gavin's friends were stretching their wrists and spines, looking refreshed.

It wasn't difficult to imagine Zhong Lue's condition.

Seeing Gavin and Wendy coming back together, the bunch of friends all looked at Gavin vaguely and the girl rushed directly to him, "Thank you, Special Assistant Gavin!"

"No need to mention it," Gavin smiled and said, "Just like Mr. Brian said, it's the company's duty to protect you."

The girl smiled brightly and then looked at Wendy. "Miss Moore, I also have to thank you. If it weren't for you, that bastard might have done something to me."

"Don't be so polite," Wendy waved her hand and said, "I also have the responsibility to protect you on behalf of my cousin-in-law!"

The girl heard the words and vaguely glanced at the couple. Then she raised her lips and said, "Enjoy the rest of the evening. I'll get back to work."

The waitress just left and someone called Gavin and Wendy, "Where were you? Come here, you two are necessary in the game!"

Gavin and Wendy had to walk over and a man sharply noticed that Gavin's clothes were on Wendy's shoulders. The man joked, "Gavin, you're so warm!"

Then Wendy realized she was still wearing his coat. She didn't know whether to take it off and leave it there or how to explain. She just flushed badly.

At last, Freya came along and dragged Wendy away.

Wendy pouted and was extremely worried. "Sis, I want to explain..."

Freya interrupted Wendy, "I know the reason. Gavin's coat is on your shoulders because it can't be on any other woman's shoulders except for you. I'm not interested in this kind of gossip. I need you to help me with something-watch a woman for me."

"Which woman?" Wendy stared with eyes wide open and asked, "Is she your rival in love?"

Freya said seriously, "It's your cousin's rival in love!"
