Chapter 534 He Is the One Who Can Protect Her

Brian and Gavin left just like that. The other members of the MR Group noticed that Miley was in a bad mood, so they left one after another.

Only Yuan Xun and Miley were left in the large private room.

Miley held a long and thin filter cigarette between her slender alabaster fingers and lit it. She looked like a decadent beauty with the other end of the long cigarette glowing calmly.

She took a few long drags on her cigarette and almost burst into tears. Yuan Xun kindly handed her a tissue.

Miley took the tissue and dabbed her eyes. "Boss Yuan, as a man, do you think that he mentioned his wife in front of me on purpose?"

Yuan Xun lit a cigarette like Miley just did with a sigh. "Perhaps he found out that you are still interested in him. He wants nothing to do with you, so he did that on purpose."

After a pause, Yuan Xun went on to say, "But don't you think there are few men in this world who would only have one woman in their lives, let alone a man of men like Brian? Maybe you are thinking too much."

Miley looked at Yuan Xun and said, "Do you mean that most men won't be loyal to their wives forever?"

"Yes." Yuan Xun took a drag on his cigarette while ogling Miley. "It's a question whether a man can control himself or not, especially in the face of a woman like you."

Miley stubbed out her cigarette and smiled at him. Then she picked up her bag and left without hesitation.

Miley walked out of the hotel and made a call on her way to the parking lot. "Where are you? I want to meet you."

"I'm at the mansion uptown." The male voice at the other end of the line sounded as if it had come from the dark and cold hell. "But it's not convenient for me to meet you here. Let's meet at Zero One Club on Tianning Road. Someone will take care of you. I'll be there later."

"Okay," Miley said without hesitation, "I'll be there in 30 minutes."

Brian and Gavin were on their way home when Miley drove toward the Zero One Club.

The driver of the company asked Gavin, "Special Assistant Gavin, are you going back to your apartment?"

"No," Gavin said with an unconscious smile. "Drive me to the Eighth Hospital."

The driver cast a glance at Gavin in bewilderment. He didn't think that Gavin was sick.

Brian also looked at Gavin. "Why are you going to the hospital?"

Gavin simply asked, "Can't I see a doctor there?"

Brian sneered. "If you want to see a doctor, you can go to the private hospital nearby with better facilities and more skilled doctors. Why do you have to go to Wendy's hospital?"

"..." Gavin cursed himself in his mind for being seen through. He raised his hand and motioned for Brian to look at the gauze. "I'm going there to ask Wendy to change my dressing."

Brian was silent for a moment. "You got hurt because you helped Wendy yesterday, didn't you?"

"Oh, you guessed it." Gavin smiled with pride. "Yes, I hurt my hand because of Wendy. She has to take responsibility for me! But, how did you know that?"

"It's easy to see," Brian said leisurely, "From what I know of Wendy, she would never agree to help you change your dressing if it were not for you being injured because of her, right?"

Gavin's smile suddenly froze on his face. "Brian, you're going too far! You're not supposed to just come out with it. Why don't you just keep it to yourself? By the way, did the Lopez Family talk with you about it?"

Brian said, "Zhong Lue called me and apologized. What do you think?"

"What's the point of apologizing!" Gavin gnashed his teeth. "He would have dragged Wendy into the elevator if I hadn't arrived in time that day!"

With that said, Gavin suddenly remembered something.

Wendy called out his name before being dragged into the elevator by Zhong Lue.

Back then, Chris and Freya, who had always been close to Wendy, were both in the hotel. However, she called out his name when she was in danger.

He wondered, "Does it mean that in Wendy's eyes, I'm the one who can protect her?"

The driver stopped the car as Gavin felt secretly delighted by his thought. "Special Assistant Gavin, the hospital is here."

Gavin unbuckled his seat belt and got out of the car. He waved to Brian with his back to the car and strode into the inpatient department of the hospital without looking back.

Wendy was on duty in the inpatient department of cardiac surgery that night.

The driver could tell that Gavin was in a good mood without even seeing his face. He smiled and asked Brian, "Mr. Brian, shall I drive you home?"

"Yeah." After a pause, Brian added, "Drive faster."

The driver knew that Brian was eager to go home, so he sped up the car as he answered him. The car reached Prime Villas in less than 40 minutes.

In the house, Joanne was sitting on the sofa in the living room with a tablet computer in her hand, swiping her fingers on the screen. It seemed that she was searching for something.

Upon hearing noises at the door, she looked over subconsciously and found that Brian was back. She stood up and walked over. Brian stopped her as she was about to take out his slippers from the shoe cabinet. "I'll do it."

It was not convenient for her to do actions like bending over because of her swollen belly.

Joanne caught a whiff of perfume as Brian sat down and changed his shoes.

It was Chanel No. 5.

She could tell from the faint smell that it wasn't from intimate touch. It was likely that Brian had stayed in the same room with the person who wore that kind of perfume for too long, and his clothes picked up the perfume as a result.

She thought that Miley was the one who wore the perfume.

Joanne felt upset as she thought of the photos of Brian and Miley walking into the hotel together, although she knew that there was nothing between the two.

Brian changed his shoes and stood up only to look into Joanne's eyes. He found that she looked upset, but he simply thought for a while and then asked, "Have you had dinner?"

"Yes," Joanne said nodding. "Wendy came over in the afternoon and left after having dinner with me."

Brian smiled and took Joanne to the living room. "What were you looking at just now?"

"Babies' names." Joanne looked distressed. "We've only found a girl's name so far."

It was Lu Xinyi, which was given by Iris.

Brian picked up the tablet computer on the sofa and saw all kinds of information about names. He felt bored, so he turned off the computer and placed it aside. "Your due date is still a long way off. It won't be too late to think about it when the babies are born."

"But I can't find anything else to do except think about names." Joanne checked the time. "It's getting late. Go take a shower and go to bed early."

It was just past 9:00 p.m. when Brian finished his shower. He saw Joanne lying on the bed doing prenatal education as he emerged from the bathroom.

He walked over and lay down beside Joanne, and then he took the prenatal education instrument away.

Joanne looked at Brian in bewilderment. "It's not over yet."

"I have something to tell you," Brian said.

"Oh," Joanne said. She lay down with her face to Brian. "What's it about?" She had an intuition that it had to do with Miley.

Brian thought for a moment and said, "Tell me first, how do you know that Miley has returned from abroad?"

Joanne compressed her lips, realizing that she couldn't avoid that question. She got up to take a packet and handed it to Brian.

Brian emptied the packet and saw a small stack of photos. He frowned deeply as soon as he saw the first one.

The photo showed him helping Miley into the hotel. It looked like Miley was in his arms, and they looked very close.

The last photo showed him walking out of the hotel alone. The time on the lower right corner of it showed that it had been nearly three hours since he entered the hotel with Miley, which was long enough to stir the imagination.

Brian asked in a low voice, "When did you get it?"

Joanne was very calm. "The day after you went to the hotel with Miley." After a pause, she went on, "I can give you a chance to explain. Tell me what happened that night. When I received the photos, it occurred to me that you returned home after taking a shower that night!"

Brian kneaded his temples hard. "I went to the hotel with Miley because she was drunk. As her classmate, I was supposed to send her back to the hotel."

Joanne looked jealous. "What if I'm drunk?"

Brian raised his eyebrow. "You're my wife. I'll take you home if you're drunk."

Joanne failed to hold back her laughter, which showed that she was very satisfied with the answer. She pointed to the time shown on the photo and asked, "You stayed with her for more than two hours after you entered the hotel with Miley. Why did you stay there for so long?"

Brian said, "Miley was drunk. She mistook me for her ex-husband and asked me not to leave, and she finally threw up on me. Frankly, I was taking a shower most of the time."

Joanne thought for a moment and found that Brian's words were irrefutable, so she said, "Oh, I see."

"Well." Brian gazed at Joanne. "Now it's my turn-how do you know Miley?"

Joanne subconsciously avoided eye contact with Brian. However, she heard the voice of Brian issuing orders before she could fix her eyes on something else. "Joanne, tell me the truth."

"I will." Joanne pursed her lips. "I got a line on the gossip about you and Miley when I was at school. I knew that she was interested in you!"

Brian smiled. "Now are you worried that she's still interested in me?"

"Yes," Joanne said firmly, "but I know you'll never cheat on me."

Brian looked at Joanne with a brighter smile. "Why didn't you ask me about it when you received the photos?"

"Because I knew it didn't happen like that," Joanne said, "On the other hand, I wanted to know who had taken those photos and why he had sent them to me."

A cold look flashed across Brian's face before he looked at Joanne. "Honey, I'll tell you about it as soon as I find it out."
