The sudden car accident made the emergency room busy for almost the whole night.
After the last operation, Wendy moved her aching shoulders and neck and walked out of the operating room. When she took off the operation cap, she saw the light of the dawn appearing vaguely by the window, at the end of the corridor.
The sky was already bright.
At first, she felt terrified, following which she felt relieved. Finally, she had finished the first night shift after three consecutive surgeries. She was so busy that she had no time to think about those ghost stories.
After a few stressful hours that demanded high concentration, she could finally relax. But Wendy didn't feel exhausted in the least. On the contrary, her brain was unprecedentedly clear.
Perhaps, it was because the three surgeries that she had participated in were all successful, and the patients had recovered from the edge of death.
Further, she did have a little bit of credit for the success of the operations.
Thinking of this, Wendy felt an immense sense of accomplishment, and she happily rushed back to her office.
She pushed the white door open, and the pungent smell of disinfectant invaded her nose. Then, in the room full of morning light, she saw Gavin lying on the sofa, wrapped in a blanket and sleeping soundly.
In the early morning, the light was soft and penetrating, and formed a layer of soft light on Gavin's handsome face, which made his handsomeness even more attractive.
Wendy quietly closed the door, walked to the sofa and squatted down, holding her chin with both hands and staring at Gavin unscrupulously, and her mood inexplicably became better.
Gavin had always been vigilant. He noticed the abnormality and soon opened his eyes. He did not expect that Wendy's face would be the first to appear in front of his eyes.
This time, Wendy didn't avoid Gavin's eyes. What's more, she directly greeted him, "Are you awake?"
Well, as the girl was holding on to her chin with both of her hands with a smile on her face, she looked just like a tender soft little woman.
But Gavin knew that Wendy wasn't a soft little woman at all. Her sudden behavior like this could only imply that she was in a good mood.
Gavin sat up and asked while tidying up his clothes, which were a bit messy because of his sleep, "How was the operations?"
"Very successful." Wendy stretched out three fingers. "I participated in the rescue of three patients, and all of them were saved!"
Gavin understood why Wendy was in such a good mood. He rubbed her hair and said, "Really great!"
Hey, Gavin praised her!
Just like a flower blooming in the heart, Wendy smiled more brightly. "Gavin!" She looked serious. "I will not be afraid of working the night shift in the future, and I am not afraid of a full turn of working for 24 hours a day!"
"Why are you not afraid?" Gavin was quite surprised. "Now that you have been involved in a few operations, you have forgotten those supernatural tales and ghost events?"
"I didn't forget." Wendy looked serious. "I just found the meaning of working the night shift."
"Oh?" Gavin looked interested. "Tell me about it."
Wendy said word by word, particularly serious,"We are here to work on the night shift, not for a supernatural story, but to deal with emergencies and save the lives of patients! So, worshiping the 'God of the Night' is enough, there is no need to be afraid!"
Gavin showed a very gratified expression,"I am relieved."
Wendy couldn't help complaining, "You have nothing to worry about in the first place."
If Gavin said that he was worried that she would be on the night shift in the future, she would choose not to believe him.
The relationship between her and Gavin was not clear, and there was no need to care so much for a friend.
There was a smile tugged on Gavin's lips. He did not say anything and just looked at the time. "There are still two minutes before you can be off work."
"Oh, there are still two minutes..." Halfway through the conversation, Wendy suddenly realized something and pulled up Gavin. "Follow me!"
Gavin did not understand and asked, "What's wrong?"
"Don't ask!"
Wendy dragged Gavin and rushed out of the office. However, it was still too late. The office door was pushed open from the outside, and several intern friends, who had been getting along with each other day and night, appeared outside the door. They were all surprised, and they stared at her and Gavin.
Wendy subconsciously shook off Gavin's hand.
However, in the eyes of others, Wendy's action was simply a cover.
A girl teased with a smile, "Wendy, your white coat has not been changed yet. You don't have to be so hurried to get off from work, do you?"
"Yes," echoed another intern. "She's in a hurry. It looks like she's trying to avoid us."
Wendy covered her forehead and said, "It's not what you think..."
Someone patted Wendy's shoulder and said, "We haven't thought about it in a very complicated way." Then, they smiled at Gavin and said, "Handsome guy, good morning."
"Morning." Compared to Wendy, Gavin was much more natural, expressing that he was Wendy's friend. He then took the opportunity to ask, "Have you had breakfast yet?"
"Not yet." A girl said, "I got up early in the morning and rushed to the hospital in a hurry. I planned to have something random in the cafeteria of the hospital."
"You don't have to go." Gavin smiled, which made people feel comfortable. "I ordered takeout for all of you."
"Really? Thank you!" The girl looked at Wendy with surprise. "Wendy, thank you too."
"..." Wendy was stunned-what did it have to do with her?
Gavin naturally took Wendy's hand. "Wendy is off work, we'll go first, see you next time."
In this world, there was no lack of good-looking handsome men.
However, it was rare to see such a handsome man who was as good-looking, generous and graceful as Gavin,
After Gavin took Wendy away, the office immediately exploded.
"Hey, hey, don't you think that the handsome guy is very familiar?"
"It's just the one who came to look for Wendy last time. At that time, Wendy still denied that she had something to do with him, but she can't deny this time!"
"The urgent matter is not to investigate whether Wendy has lied to us!" Another eye-catching girl said, "Think about it, a person who is so good-looking must be getting along with all kinds of handsome guys! Let Wendy ask him to introduce us!"
Everyone expressed their agreement on this suggestion, and then fell into an enjoyable fantasy.
Outside, Gavin had taken Wendy away from the building of the hospital.
Only then did Wendy react from the situation and break away from Gavin's grip. She stared at Gavin incredulously. "It's over, they all misunderstood. Gavin, did you do it on purpose?"
Gavin did not answer but asked, "You girls often say that you want to find a boyfriend, whom you can take out to show off. Do you think I am the kind of person who is too ugly to be taken out?"
"You want me to praise you, don't you?" Wendy looked at Gavin for a moment and admitted frustratedly, "Well, feeling my conscience, I can only praise you-you can not only be taken out, but also earn extra credit!"
Gavin liked to listen to this kind of big truth, and nodded with satisfaction. "In such case, just now, they obviously won't believe that there is nothing between us. If I cooperate with you to disentangle our relationship, not only will it make no sense, but will make them feel that I am not serious to you. How do you think the people in the hospital will discuss about you if the message gets out?"
How would they talk about her?
Without thinking, Wendy could completely guess the answer.
She never denied that there were many people chasing her, whether in school or in the hospital.
However, she had never fallen in love with a pursuer. She had been single for more than 20 years.
What she didn't expect was that her unwillingness was seen as a pretense to be lofty in some people's eyes. Whether in the school or the hospital, there were always rumors about her. She refused to date the hottest guy in the school because he didn't have a rich family. There had been many rumors like that.
To put it straight, everyone thought that her parents looked after her well and gave her the attribute that she loved money since she was born. So in their eyes, the reason why she had always been single was that the people who pursued her were not rich enough.
Wendy had heard these words by herself, and some of her close friends had secretly told her about it.
She couldn't even laugh about it. She only gnawed at the thick professional books and said, "My family's money is enough for me to spend ten lifetimes. Let me tell you the real reason why I don't find a boyfriend. They are not handsome enough, and the hottest guy in the campus isn't handsome enough in my eyes too!"
In the silence of the crowd, Wendy continued to say,"Yes, I only care about the face when looking for my boyfriend. There is a lot of money in the safe of my home. I'm not worried if my future boyfriend has money or not. Anyway, I have a lot of money!"
After these words spread out, Wendy's reason for not accepting anyone's pursuit was changed to another version. She was too shallow. She did not look at a man's knowledge and character. The only thing she cared about was a man's face.
If Gavin cooperated with Wendy today and did not admit there was anything between them, Wendy could imagine that there would be a message soon, saying that Wendy had found a handsome guy, but the handsome guy did not want to admit that she had something to do with him. She didn't like those who wanted to date her. So she could only choose to be single in this life.
Fortunately, Gavin acquiesced in their relationship, and even had intimate interactions with her in front of several interns without any scruple.
She had a good relationship with the bunch of interns. They would definitely make great efforts to spread the news. The rumors that she was ridiculed must disappear for a period of time.
Thinking of this, Wendy looked at Gavin with gratitude, but she also thought of another question, "Have you really ordered breakfast for my colleagues?"
"It's fake," Gavin smiled with a special glamor and said, "but it's not too late to call it now."
As he spoke, he took out his phone and made a call. It was quickly connected, "Hello, this is Moonlit Dine."
Moonlit Dine was Joanne's favorite tea house which had existed for more than a century.
"It's me."
The receptionist immediately recognized Gavin's voice, "Morning, Mr. Gavin. What can I do for you?"
"Help me prepare breakfast for six people." Gavin looked at the time. "Send it to the intern's office of the cardiac surgery department in the Eighth Hospital within 40 minutes."
"Yes, sir."
Having hung up the phone, Gavin turned his head to look at Wendy, but to his surprise, he found that Wendy was staring at him, and didn't look away even after she had been discovered.
Gavin coughed and asked, "What about you? What do you want to eat?"
Wendy didn't answer, "Gavin, I think you were a little handsome just now."
Gavin raised his eyebrows. "Just a little bit?"
Wendy solemnly thought for a moment, and stretched out a finger,"A little more. There can't be more to that!"
Gavin couldn't help laughing out, "Only two points of handsomeness mentioned by you is worth to be rewarded. Tell me, what do you want to eat?"
"I want to brush my teeth and wash my face first..." Wendy thought about it and still felt that it was unrealistic. "However, it would be too troublesome to run back."
"Isn't it easy?" Gavin pointed to the hotel on the opposite side. "It will be settled once we get a room!"
