Chapter 574 He Has The Right to Choose

The long and desperate silence lasted between Gavin and the old professor for a long time.

In the end, the old professor broke the silence, "Mr. Gavin, I hope I can talk to you."

Gavin hesitated for a moment and then came to his senses. "Of course you can."

The old professor laughed and suddenly said, "Do you know that your voice is very similar to your father's when he was young?"

"..." Gavin tightened his grip on the phone and did not say anything.

The old professor let out a sigh, and then slowly continued, "It's been many years, but I still have a deep impression of your father. He made me change my opinion of Asians. Towards his departure, I and your mother feel the same regret. That's why for so many years, I have never given up on studying his illness."

Gavin took a deep breath. "I heard that you have new discoveries?"

"That's right," the old professor stressed, "but I need you to cooperate with the treatment to verify whether my new method is useful or not."

"I'm willing to cooperate with you, but I can't leave Arlington for the time being." Gavin said bluntly, "So I hope you and your team can come to Arlington. I'll fully take the responsibility of your accommodations, research funds, and laboratories."

"I'm the only one who has been troubled by this illness these years. How can I have a team?" The old professor smiled. "I can go to Arlington. I don't pay much attention to food and lodging, so it's fine as long as I'm safe. I'm more concerned about whether you can provide me with the same study environment and the same equipment as I have in the United States."

Gavin copied a document from the computer and passed it to the old professor. "This is the information of a private hospital. The facilities and medical skills here are no worse than those of any domestic public hospitals in the country. As for the environment, I can say with absolute certainty that it is the best one among all the hospitals in the country. You will definitely be satisfied."

The old professor browsed through the information which he had received from Gavin and smiled. "You are too modest. I know this hospital. It can be said to be one of the best private hospitals in the world at present. I am very happy to continue my research in the hospital with the most advanced equipment technology."

"Then, there is no problem." Gavin asked, "How long do you need to deal with your affairs in the United States?"

"I have been struggling with this disease for a lifetime, and I have no worries left in the United States." The old professor said, "Book a ticket for a flight which will take off in two days. I don't know how long it will take to come back. I need to say goodbye to some old friends."

Gavin agreed and was about to hang up.

"Wait a minute." The old professor said before Gavin could hang up. "Although it's a bit abrupt, I still want to ask-you don't seem to be willing to mention your mother?"

"I have never lived with her," Gavin said, "but in the eyes of outsiders, she is my mother. But for me, there is not much difference between her and a stranger."

"Actually, it wasn't easy for your mother at that time," said the old professor briefly, "Believe me, she loves you very much. If it's possible, she won't give up on you."

Gavin did not say anything, and silently hung up the phone.

He didn't blame Dolly. Dolly and Winfred had such a deep relationship. If she wasn't forced to, he believed that Dolly wouldn't abandon him.

But at the end of the story, he still became an orphan abandoned in North America.

He couldn't blame Dolly for abandoning him, but he had the right to choose whether to accept Dolly.

For so many years, he had fantasized about his parents, but there was a distance of more than 20 years between fantasy and reality.

Dolly had lost him for more than twenty years. He could not treat Dolly as a blood relative in just a day and a night. So, it was better to maintain an indifferent relationship like this. Only in this way could he continue to hide the fact from Wendy that he was her brother.

Gavin turned off the computer, got up and walked to the balcony of the living room.

His apartment was located in the prime area of the city. Standing on the balcony, he could see all the prosperity of the city at a glance.

In the past, Gavin was greedy for this feeling. He stood on the top and overlooked the lights from the CBD. When he looked down at the famous river, he had a feeling of having conquered the city and life.

He was no longer that Gavin, who had been pointed at the back of his head as the abandoned and unwanted child.

But at this moment, he would rather lose them all-the luxurious apartment, the expensive sports car, and the status above ten thousand people. He could give up all of them.

As long as he could go back to the past and be the Gavin who didn't know or care much about his family background.

If that Gavin met Wendy, he must be able to be with Wendy at ease.

Unfortunately, there were too many things in the world that would not follow one's wishes.

He would probably be able to accept his fate in the face of the truth and the sudden appearance of the sickness.

Gavin found a cigarette and lighter on the table next to him. With a click, the light blue flame jumped out of the lighter and lit a cigarette.

It didn't take long for there to be a few cigarette butts on the originally clean ashtray.

When the last cigarette was lit, Gavin looked at the scarlet fire at the end. Suddenly, he felt dispirited, put out the cigarette, and returned to the room.

It was still early, so Gavin was not sleepy, and he had to go to the study to turn on the computer to work.

Usually, when he got home, it was not early. Even if he still had time, he would rather pour a glass of wine and sit on the balcony to drink slowly.

He turned on the computer-it was simply impossible for him in the past.

But now, it seemed that only work could paralyze him.

If he told Brian about this, he would definitely be very surprised and happy.

In the midnight, Gavin finally yawned. He turned off the computer and took a shower. When he returned to the room, he was energetic again. He played with his mobile phone and looked at Wendy's number, but did not dare to dial.

He wanted to know if Wendy had gone back, and if she had fallen asleep.

But when he left the bar, he held a girl in his arms even though he had no interest in her and performed a big play. If he called Wendy at this moment, then all his previous efforts would be for naught.

In the end, Gavin turned off his phone, threw it directly on the bedside table, and found the sleeping pills to take one piece.

Before he fell asleep under the influence of the medication, Gavin thought self-deprecatingly that how there could be a day when he did not even dare to contact a girl.

"It's really... retribution."

While Gavin was asleep, Wendy just left MiTime bar through the backdoor.

She had cried so loudly just now that her eyes had swollen like that of a goldfish. If she went back to the bar, she would definitely be embarrassed, so she smartly chose to quietly leave.

What Wendy didn't expect was that there was a huge difference between the front and rear door of the bar.

The front door was well-lit and looked extravagant. However, there was an alley out of the back door, where the street lights were dim and quiet and looked a bit weird.

While Wendy was hesitating whether to leave from the back door or not, there was a faint and suspicious sound coming from not far ahead. She suddenly realized something and was so scared that she took a few steps back and stepped on a beverage iron jar. "Rip-", the jar rubbed against the ground with a sharp and harsh sound.

Before Wendy could react, several young men and women suddenly came out of the alley.

The men were tough. They stared at Wendy with sullen faces and said in an unkind tone, "Don't you know where this place is? What are you doing?"

Wendy knew that she couldn't afford to provoke these people, so she coughed and said, "Sorry, I don't know, I'll leave right away!"

"You want to leave after interrupting my happiness? It's not so easy!" A man rushed up and blocked Wendy's way. Looking up and down at Wendy, he smirked, "People who know the place know where this spot is. Are you here to look for us?"

"No." Wendy shook her head. "You've misunderstood. I just took the wrong way. Excuse me, I want to go back."

"Honey, going back to the bar is no different from staying here." The man grabbed Wendy's hand. "Join us and have some fun."

"Let me go!" Wendy refused firmly. "I don't care what you are doing here, but if you don't let me go, I'll call the police immediately!"

The few men smiled contemptuously and unscrupulously. "Do you think we won't be able to handle a little girl like you?"

As soon as the voice fell, several men came over to Wendy and surrounded her from all sides.

Wendy had no way out from any side.

This time, it seemed that she was really doomed.

If she had known, she would rather walk through the front door and be interrogated by Connell instead of coming to this damn place!

"You have no way to run!" Another man grabbed Wendy's other hand and pulled her, "Follow me!"

"Ah!" Wendy resisted the touch of this strange man both mentally and physically, and screamed loudly, "let me go!"

"Hey, when you look at her seriously, both her figure and appearance are quite good." The men turned a blind eye to Wendy's struggle.

Wendy had to take out her biggest weapon. "Since you came to this bar, it means that you are not ordinary punks. Then you should know Brian and Chris."

"Who doesn't know about the two giants in the business world of Arlington?" The man asked Wendy with interest, "Don't tell me that you have something to do with them."

"Brian is my cousin-in-law, and Chris is my cousin. Do you think I have anything to do with them?" Wendy threatened. "Let me go, or you will not know how Arlington will be like the day after tomorrow!"

The men looked at each other and smiled at the same time. "The little girl is young, but she is very good at bluffing. If you are the cousin of Brian and Chris, then I am their blood brother!"

After that, the men laughed more wildly, and dragged Wendy into the alley.

Wendy screamed and struggled, but she was no opponent to the men at all. She was pinned down and there was no way to escape.

If Gavin were here, she would not be in such a horrible situation.

But at this time, Gavin and his new girlfriend were together...
