Chapter 645 Taste the Deepest Despair And Get Humiliated The Most

The next day, in Wendy's apartment.

A green taxi slowly stopped in front of the apartment, and Dolly got out of it.

She walked into the lobby and called Wendy before getting into the elevator.

The call was quickly picked up, but Wendy's voice showed that she was still sleepy. "Hello?"

"Wendy, it's mom," Dolly said softly, "Get up. Let's have breakfast together."

Wendy paused for a few seconds before she said, "Oh." Dolly guessed that she would fall asleep again. She thought that she would call her again in 20 minutes, but she didn't expect that Wendy would come down in less than 20 minutes.

She was wearing casual clothes and a pair of white sports shoes. Her long black hair was tied into a ponytail. A few strands of hair were scattered on her forehead, making her face look more delicate, full of youthful atmosphere and vitality.

"Mom!"

Wendy hurried out of the elevator like an arrow and rushed to Dolly.

Dolly shook her head and said, "You never know how to be a lady." Her words sounded helpless, but she didn't seem to blame Wendy at all.

"Being a lady is already out of fashion now!" Wendy lifted her ponytail. "A gentle and independent lady is the modern way of being a lady!"

Dolly couldn't defeat Wendy in words. She led Wendy out of the apartment, got in a taxi, and asked the driver to take them to the Moonlit Dine.

The morning tea table of the Moonlit Dine needed to be reserved in advance. When Dolly and Wendy arrived, there were already no empty seats in the restaurant. The waiter took them to a quiet, half-closed table in the corner.

Dolly passed the menu to Wendy. "If it weren't for your cousin and cousin-in-law, I wouldn't have been able to reserve such a table."

Wendy nodded while looking at the menu. "My cousin also likes to sit here when she comes here! My cousin had told me that she usually can't book a table here, but as long as she calls my male cousin, everything can be settled!" After a pause, she sighed and said, "I'm really envious..."

Dolly smiled. "What are you jealous of?"

"I envy my cousin for having such a brother who loves her so much!" Wendy held her chopsticks with longing on her face. "The point is that cousin is also very handsome! I heard that when my cousin was still studying, he once went to school to see her, which caused a sensation in the whole academy. It's too awesome!"

Dolly hesitated for half a second and said, "In fact, your father and I have thought about it, about not letting you be the only child..."

"Then why don't you give birth to a younger brother for me?" Wendy pretended to complain. "If I have a younger brother who is also interested in business, you and Dad won't have to worry about the inheritance!"

Dolly tried to make her smile look natural. "According to your logic, wouldn't it be better if you had an elder brother? Not only could he protect you, but he could also help you avoid the troubles of inheriting the company."

"Of course, it's better to have an elder brother!" Wendy couldn't suppress her excitement. "If he is as handsome and capable as my cousin, it'll be more perfect! But, I'm the eldest daughter. How can I have an elder brother..."

In the end, Wendy's tone was full of regret.

Dolly seemed to see a glimmer of hope, but she had to suppress the excitement in her heart. She asked uncertainly, "Do you really wish to have an elder brother?"

"In fact... I have been hoping for it since I was a child!" Wendy smiled shyly. "When I was little, you and Dad were very busy, and there was only a nanny at home to accompany me. I had a serious illness accidentally, but you and Dad rarely had time to see me. Only the doctor and nurse kept asking me if I felt better."

"At that time, I really wanted to have an elder brother or sister. If he or she was about the same age as me, he or she would not be as busy as you and Dad and would definitely come to see me and stay with me in the hospital!"

When Wendy was young, Dolly really had little time to accompany her, which was a big regret in Dolly's heart so far.

Dolly looked at her daughter apologetically. "Wendy, I'm sorry for my absence during that period."

Wendy smiled and said, "If it weren't for what I have experienced, I wouldn't be able to find my dream! Mom, I believe that everything that happens in our lives is arranged by destiny."

Because she was hospitalized and came in contact with the gentle and lovely doctors and nurses, she decided to be a doctor who could cure the pain when she grew up.

Therefore, she really didn't blame Dolly and Conor for leaving her sick in the hospital.

As for the fact that she and Gavin siblings, she couldn't blame Dolly.

Dolly was not a heartless person. Back then, she had abandoned Gavin because of her difficulties. After that, she must have suffered more than anyone else.

She had felt sorry for him so much. How could she blame him?

Therefore, she could only comfort herself that it had all been arranged by destiny...

"Wendy." Dolly held Wendy's hand. "After the full-moon party of Aiden and Romy, I want to tell you something. It may be a huge shock for you. Promise me, at that time, whether you can accept it or not, you will let me know. If you really can't accept it, don't take it alone. You have to tell me."

"Mom," Wendy blinked her eyes and teased, "it sounds like a big deal!"

Dolly nodded. "It's indeed a big deal."

"Well!" Wendy looked very interested. "Then why wait until the full-moon party of Aiden and Romy? Can't you tell me now?"

Wendy's innocent reaction made Dolly believe firmly that she really didn't know that Gavin was her elder brother.

But then, once she told Wendy everything... the truth would impact her even more, wouldn't it?

Dolly tried to hide her heartache. She shook her head and said, "Not now. I can't announce it until your male cousin and cousin are there."

"Okay." Wendy looked disappointed, but she still expressed her understanding. "Then I'll be curious first. I'll listen to you on the day of the first month ceremony of Aiden and Romy!"

Dolly nodded. "Have some breakfast, or you'll be late for work."

Breakfast was very delicious, and the crystal prawn dumplings were just like their name, steamed to be transparent and tender. The plump prawns were about to break through the thin crystal skin and jump out. When the whole prawn dumplings were stuffed into the mouth, she could feel the delicious taste.

But when she ate it, Wendy couldn't feel any taste, so she had to eat fast.

It seemed that she was in a hurry to go to work.

Only she knew that it was because she couldn't keep her fake pretense anymore.

It was not easy to keep the secret up to this point; hence she couldn't expose it now.

After breakfast, Wendy didn't ask Dolly for a ride. Instead, she jumped into the taxi and went straight to the hospital.

This day had finally arrived.

She deliberately asked Dolly to go back to Australia. She deliberately provoked Gavin and said that he couldn't control her.

She deliberately said that Dolly was allergic to pets, and she intentionally asked Gavin to take Erha home.

She even pretended that she didn't know what Dolly was going to announce and showed great curiosity.

She did all of this on purpose, just to convince Dolly and Gavin that-she didn't know that Gavin was her brother, and she didn't have any feelings for him.

Then it would be easier for Dolly to reveal Gavin's family background.

As long as she called Gavin "brother", their relationship would be terminated by the blood relationship.

Only in this way could she completely give up.

However, when this day was really about to come, she was so sad that she almost couldn't speak.

Wendy curled herself up in the back seat of the taxi and buried her face in her hands.

She had tried very hard to control the tears, but eventually, there was some liquid wetting her palm.

She could only bite her lips to prevent herself from crying out loud.

"That's good. Now that I know it won't work out, what's the meaning of still hanging onto the last bit of hope?"

"A long-term pain is worse than short-term pain."

Wendy held it in for too long. In the end, she couldn't help choking.

The taxi driver was used to seeing all kinds of people in the city. There had been young people in suits and leather shoes sitting in the back seat, frowning, and some young girls, who adorned impeccable makeup. There had also been girls holding expensive mobile phones and quarreling with the real girlfriend of their so-called "boyfriends", and some, who would even start crying as soon as they got in the taxi.

There were very few people like Wendy who were sobbing in a low voice, but Wendy didn't look like those who struggled to make a living.

The only possibility was that she had been hurt by love.

"Girl," the driver couldn't help but say, "no matter what happens, the most important thing is to live healthily. No matter how bad it is, it'll get better in the end."

"But I don't think it will ever be better." Wendy covered her heart and sobbed, "He is the only person I've ever liked. I've always thought that he also liked me and that we would be together someday."

The master sighed and said, "I don't know how to console people. I can only tell you that in this world, there are people who are experiencing things that are harder and more painful than yours."

Wendy looked up and saw the workers working on the skyscrapers and the sanitation workers in the city with sweat all over their faces.

It was right. In this world, there were many people who were living a much harder life.

In contrast, she was lucky enough.

If she couldn't overcome this difficulty, not only would the previous acting be in vain, but in the future, she, Gavin, and even everyone else would feel embarrassed.

No matter how sad she was, she could not destroy the harmonious relationship among everyone at the moment.

Wendy wiped away her tears-no matter how sad she was, she had to learn to accept and face the reality that Gavin was her elder brother.

The driver smiled and said, "Girl, have you thought it through?"

Wendy nodded. "Thank you, sir."

"You're welcome." The driver smiled. "Well, it's not the requested time for you to work yet. I'll drive you around for some time. When your eyes aren't so red, I'll take you to the Eighth Hospital to work."

"Huh?" Wendy was surprised. "Sir, how did you know that I'm a doctor of the Eighth Hospital?"

"Miss, there was one time when you cried in my car!"

Wendy was stunned and looked at the driver. It was indeed a familiar face.

Moreover, the reason why she had cried in his taxi last time was also Gavin.

"Alas, this sir must be wondering why I'm still so useless, right?"

Wendy was totally embarrassed in an instant. She couldn't even speak properly. "Sir, I... I'm fine. Please let me... let me get out of the car."

"Really?" asked the driver. Still, the driver stepped on the brakes.

"It's really okay!"

Wendy put down two bills and rushed out of the car before she could get the change.

"It's really a great shame!"
