Chapter 701 Someone Else Will Pay the Price for Your Willfulness

Gavin nodded and asked the driver to get Blake a taxi. After that, he also hopped into the car and left.

"Special Assistant Gavin, you finished breakfast so quickly," the driver said in a gossipy tone, "it's not too busy this morning. You don't have to rush to the company. Why don't you take your time eating?"

"They still have something to do," Gavin replied lightly.

It was obvious that Gavin was not in a good mood. The driver didn't dare to say anything more and simply concentrated on driving.

The road was not too congested, so they made good time. Gavin looked at the scenery whipping past on both sides of the road, his heart in a mess.

Wendy's ability to act shamelessly was beyond his imagination.

Did he have to hurt her so badly so that she would be brokenhearted and give up on him in the end?

What Gavin didn't know was that at this moment, Wendy was very sad.

For the first time, she hated Gavin so much.

Even though he knew that she liked him and that she was jealous of Blake, he had still dared to say that she had hurt Lin.

"He's just a bastard who can't tell right from wrong. Have I done anything wrong yet?"

Gavin was treating her like this because he wanted her to hate him and give up on him, wasn't he?

Well, fine then! She decided that she would continue to like Gavin!

At the very least, Gavin had to know that she was sad. He should know that she was no longer what she had been because of him.

At noon, Blake came to Wendy's office and invited her to lunch.

"Sorry," Wendy said, "I already had lunch with my colleagues. You should hurry up and go. The braised pork ribs will sell out soon."

"Have you really had lunch?" Blake didn't seem to believe her. She came close and asked softly, "Wendy, are you still angry with your brother?"

Wendy turned her head away. "Don't mention him."

The reason why she was rejecting Blake was that she didn't want to hear her mention Gavin.

Every time she heard Blake say the name Gavin, she was reminded that Gavin belonged to Blake.

It was too hard for her. She didn't want to face such a cruel fact...

"Okay," Blake then said very gently, "after dinner, I'm going to the buy some drinks from the cafe across the street. Would you like anything to drink or eat?"

Wendy replied. "I'm on a diet."

"Do you really need to lose weight when you're so thin?" Blake was surprised, but she didn't take it seriously. She just smiled and said, "If you change your mind, drop me a message."

Wendy nodded. "Okay."

Watching Blake walk out of the office, Wendy turned to her colleague. "Bring me some takeout, please."

Her colleague teased. "Haven't you already had a meal with us?"

"You know I was lying," Wendy said bluntly, "don't spill the beans. Also, remember to bring me food."

"Tell us the truth." Several colleagues surrounded Wendy. "Why do you suddenly dislike Blake so much? Is your brother going to break up with her?"

Wendy held her chin with one hand and looked at the group of colleagues leisurely. "Do you want Blake to break up with my brother?"

"Of course we do!" her colleagues said excitedly, "if your brother breaks up with Blake, we'll have a chance!"

Wendy nodded in strong agreement.

If Gavin broke up with Blake, she would also have a chance.

It was a pity that she couldn't split Gavin and Blake up now, she could only stop them from getting engaged.

After work, Wendy went straight back to Gavin's apartment, only to find that the security guard who should have been on duty was not in the lobby. It seemed that he had been replaced.

Wendy asked curiously, "Uncle, did you switch shifts today?"

"Well, no," the middle-aged man said, "I'm a newcomer."

Wendy suddenly had a bad feeling. "Where's the usual guy on late duty?"

"Oh, that guy?" The security guard shook his head and said, "He did a good job, but I heard that he let a girl in without permission, disturbed an owner, and was then complained about, so he was fired."

Wendy was thoroughly shocked.

Last night, she had blagged Gavin's door card from the previous security guard, and she had felt that she was being very smart.

Later, Gavin hadn't said anything. She had thought that it meant that Gavin had acquiesced to her taking his house's door card.

However, why would he complain to the property company and get the security guard fired?

He hadn't exposed her. Instead, he had made things difficult for a security guard so that she would feel guilty?

"Jerk!"

Wendy rushed into the elevator. When she got back to the apartment, she found that Gavin had not gotten off work yet, so she called him directly.

The phone rang twice, and soon it was answered. Wendy roared. "Gavin, why would you complain to the property company about that security guard? What do you mean by doing this?"

"I'm the owner. The security guard failed to fulfill his duty. It's only natural that I complain about him." Gavin then asked indifferently, "Is there any problem?"

"You..." Wendy was exasperated. She could only curse him to vent her anger. "Gavin, you're a jerk! If you want, you can target me. What's the point of making things difficult for a security guard?"

"How could I target you?" Gavin sneered. "I'm responsible for taking care of you. Of course, I can't make you feel wronged, so someone else has to pay the price for your willfulness."

Wendy opened her mouth, but suddenly realized that in this case, no matter how angry she was and how badly she scolded him, it wouldn't affect Gavin at all.

In terms of hard power, she was no match for him at all.

She simply hung up the phone and slumped down on the sofa.

Yes, she had to stop him from getting engaged to Blake. She also knew that she was crazy and her behavior was out of control.

But she had never thought of making an innocent person pay for her madness.

Gavin had calculated his move correctly, hadn't he?

He knew her and knew that his harsh words could not hurt her, but he also knew that she could not bear to hurt innocent people.

He was forcing her to give up.

"What a jerk!"

It was in Lambert Group.

At six o'clock in the evening, almost all the people in the company were gone, and only a few departments were still working overtime.

After finishing his work, Gavin left the company as usual.

The difference was that as he walked out of the gate on this day, a familiar voice stopped him. "Mr. Gavin."

Gavin walked over and took a cigarette from the security guard.

"It doesn't taste good, and it can barely be smoked." The security guard smiled. "If you get used to it, I'll light it for you."

"Thank you."

Gavin held the cigarette in his mouth and took a deep drag before exhaling the smoke. "How does it feel to work here?" he asked.

"Okay!" the security guard said straightforwardly, "the treatment at the apartment was good, but it's better here! The staff dormitory is even more clean and comfortable here. The best thing is that there is a staff canteen that provides healthy and delicious grub. I don't have to eat fast food anymore!"

Gavin smiled. "It's good that you're getting used to it. I'm off now."

"Well, okay." The security guard waved at Gavin. "Thank you for providing me with a better life."

After getting in the car, the driver teased Gavin. "It's common for big companies to poach talents, but it's the first time I've heard of a company poaching a security guard, let alone the president's special assistant handling it in person. Special Assistant Gavin, does this security guard have some special psychic powers that will ensure the safety of Lambert Group?"

To cooperate with the driver's teasing, Gavin paused before saying, "Drive to the hospital."

"Is there still something to deal with there?" Gavin had been going to the hospital a lot recently. The driver was already used to it and started the car directly.

As usual, Gavin didn't stay in the hospital for long. In his words, he would leave as soon as he had finished his business.

Before setting off, the driver asked as usual, "It's getting late. Since you don't have any social appointments, shall I take you home?"

Gavin didn't reply immediately. After a while, he said, "Let's go to the Garden Hotel."

"... Okay."

Upon arrival at the Garden Hotel, Gavin instructed the driver to come back and pick him up the next morning.

The driver already understood. He nodded and left the hotel.

Gavin was an adult man, and he had a beautiful and gentle girlfriend. It was obvious what he his intentions were in going to the hotel now. It would be strange for him to go back to the apartment!

At the same time, Wendy, who was far away in the apartment, was still waiting for Gavin to come back.

Just like last night, even when she was dozing off, Gavin was still nowhere to be seen.

"He must be working overtime again."

Wendy felt a little cold. She went back to the bedroom and got out a blanket. She wrapped herself up in the blanket, curled up on the sofa, and turned on the TV, trying to keep herself awake with a variety show full of funny lines.

As it turned out, she had been too optimistic. After less than half an hour, she fell asleep on the sofa.

In the past, Wendy would usually have slept until dawn, but this time, maybe because she remembered that Gavin had not come back yet, she suddenly woke up at about two o'clock in the morning. She abruptly sat up from the sofa and shouted, "Gavin!"

"..."

The only response to Wendy was the sound of TV advertisements.

"Hasn't Gavin come back yet?

"Or has he lost faith in me after last night?"

Wendy pushed open the door of the study and tentatively called for Gavin again. Receiving no response, she had to turn on the light.

Everything in the study was in order, but Gavin was nowhere to be seen.

Wendy searched the whole apartment again. Finally, she was sure that he had not come back yet.

Brian had begun to work normally. No matter how busy Gavin was, he would not be so busy that he was not going to return home.

Wendy suddenly thought of something, and she felt as if she had fallen into an ice cellar. But she still decided to call Gavin with a glimmer of hope.

She grabbed her phone and silently prayed that he would pick up, and that he would not be with Blake. "Gavin, you must pick up the phone..."

"Hello, the subscriber you dialed is power off."

The last method that Wendy had to find Gavin was calling him.

But now it seemed that this wouldn't work. His phone was turned off.

Wendy didn't try to call him again. She put down the phone, curled up on the sofa, and hugged herself.

"How can I comfort myself?

"Shall I tell myself that Gavin is a normal man, and Blake is his girlfriend, so it's normal for them to spend the night together?"

However, as soon as she imagined Gavin and Blake hugging and kissing each other, she felt like she was about to collapse.

Wendy put her chin on her knees and hugged herself tighter.

Even if she knew that something was not only normal, but was inevitably going to happen, she still could not accept it.

She was so greedy.

She wished that Gavin would belong to her, only her.

She was getting more and more jealous of Blake. But what could she do?

It was half past two in the morning. There were still four hours until dawn, but Wendy was suffering from insomnia again and couldn't fall asleep...
