Chapter 704 Gavin, Are You Lying to Me?

When Gavin arrived at the company, it was only eight in the morning.

Apart from the security guards and cleaners, there were very few people in the building.

Without thinking much, he went straight upstairs. Only when he got out of the elevator did he find Wendy sitting in his office.

Wendy was sharp-eyed and saw Gavin first. She raised her hand and greeted him with a playful gesture, flashing a smile more brilliant than the sunlight.

Gavin's skin went tight, and he felt a sharp pain in his temples.

Wendy must have seen the security guard at the gate.

Now he had entered, he had to explain what had happened with the guard. However, now, all his previous efforts would be in vain.

If he turned around and left, it would also allow Wendy to detect his guilty conscience and rouse her suspicion.

Gavin finally understood what it meant to be in a dilemma.

Wendy walked to the door of the office and pushed it open. "Why don't you come in? I have been waiting for you for a long time."

He gave up and decided to play along.

Anyway, Wendy never followed the usual routines. Even if he planned his every step well, he would sooner or later be disturbed by Wendy.

Gavin casually hung his coat on the back of the chair and loosened his tie. He asked coldly, "What are you doing here?"

"I have something to ask you." Wendy pursed her lips and thought for a moment. "First, what happened to the security guard downstairs? Why did you lie to me by saying that he went back to his hometown?"

"You are right." Gavin sat on the office chair and looked at Wendy calmly, like a man in power. "I wanted to use his resignation to make you feel guilty and force you to leave. I hadn't expected you to be even more shameless than I imagined."

"We're talking about you now. Don't get me involved." Wendy's attention did not shift at all, and she stared at Gavin with burning eyes. "In addition to that matter, what else did you lie to me about?"

There was a touch of confusion in Gavin's indifferent look. "What do you mean?"

Wendy said bluntly, "I mean, do you really like Blake? Why do I feel that you are just taking advantage of her?"

"You've misjudged the situation." Gavin denied it. "I like Blake, and I'm sure that she is the one I want to be with for the rest of my life. Wendy, don't be paranoid. I can't possibly like you."

Wendy smiled faintly and emphasized word by word. "I, do, not, believe, it."

She had already thought it through. Since Gavin could use Blake to deceive her, he must have made up his mind to be cruel forever.

She could only stop Gavin and Blake's engagement, then find evidence to prove that there was no romantic relationship between them.

Otherwise, Gavin would not admit that they were not a couple. Also, he would not admit that he saw her as more than his sister.

Wendy had officially declared war on Gavin. "Elder Brother, let's wait and see!"

With determination, she turned around and left Gavin's office, then drove to the hospital.

Wendy still did not know that there was a huge trap currently waiting for her in the hospital.

As soon as she arrived at the building, she went to have a meeting with Dr. Torres.

That afternoon, they were going to have an extremely important operation. Wendy was the only intern among the medical staff participating in the operation.

After the meeting, Dr. Torres told Wendy. "You must keep your spirits up in the afternoon. If you're careful enough, you can learn a lot from this operation."

"Okay!" Wendy nodded heavily. "Doctor Xu, you can rest assured. I will do my best!"

After lunch, just as Wendy was about to go to the operating room, a young woman suddenly called her name from outside the office. "Doctor Xiao, please come out."

Wendy was good at recognizing people. She knew at a glance that the person outside the door was the daughter of the patient who was about to have an operation.

The woman seemed to be in her early thirties. She was well-maintained, well-dressed, and seemed very difficult to deal with. The doctors and nurses who were treating her father, Mr. Lin, were not willing to deal with her.

Wendy was not afraid of her. She walked out of the office and asked, "Ms. Lin, what can I do for you?"

"I should have gone to see Dr. Torres," Ms. Lin said, "but I saw that Dr. Torres was very busy, so I don't want to bother him. Anyway, it's not important, it's just about my father's previous medical records and drug reactions that he suffered in other hospitals. It's required by Dr. Torres. When you go to the operating room later, please hand it over to him for me. Is that okay?"

"Okay." Wendy took the file bag unguardedly. "Dr. Torres is indeed very busy. You may not be able to find him. I will hand it over to him for you."

"Thank you." Ms. Lin's voice was faint, as if this was routine.

"You're welcome."

Wendy was not very enthusiastic, and she took the file bag and went to Dr. Torres's office.

It just so happened that she had a few questions to ask Dr. Torres before the operation.

After entering the office, Wendy handed the file bag to Dr. Torres and said, "Ms. Lin asked me to give you this information. Dr. Torres, Mr. Lin is going to have an operation, why do you need to look at this now?"

Dr. Torres took the file bag, but he did not open it. He just touched it and smiled. "Wendy, you were cheated."

"..."

Wendy was stunned and did not react.

Who had lied to her? About what?

Dr. Torres saw Wendy's confused look, opened the file up and handed it to her. "Take a look yourself."

Wendy looked inside and found that there were several heaping piles of cash there.

"Did Ms. Lin make a mistake?" Wendy took out her cellphone. "I'll ask someone to contact her so she can send the information."

"There's no need to do that. She didn't make a mistake," Dr. Torres said, "I didn't ask her for any information at all. What Ms. Lin wants to give me is indeed money."

Wendy was even more confused, and she couldn't help frowning slightly. "Doesn't Ms. Lin know that she should pay the bill on the first floor of the clinic?"

Dr. Torres couldn't help laughing and said, "This must be the 'red packet' given to the surgeon by Ms. Lin."

Wendy suddenly remembered something and said, "Does Ms. Lin think that we'll do a better job with the operation after being bribed?"

Dr. Torres nodded. "Indeed. Some family members really think like this."

Wendy couldn't help but laugh. "When we are in the operating room, what we have to deal with is the patient's life. During the operation, no one has time to think about money. We only pray for the operation to succeed and end quickly, don't we?"

Dr. Torres spread his hands and said, "The patient and his family don't understand our mentality in the operating room. In fact, receiving a bribe will not cure the disease. It's not like the more money they give us, the more successful the operation will be."

Other than professional knowledge, Wendy knew very little about such things, and she was not willing to learn about them. She asked, "What should I do with Ms. Lin's money?"

"She knew to use you to pass it to me, so she won't take it back easily." Dr. Torres thought for a moment. "Well, you can ask the staff of the medical department to negotiate with Ms. Lin. If she is still unwilling to take back the money, let the staff of the medical department put the money into Mr. Lin's account. It will be regarded as a hospitalization fee paid by Ms. Lin."

"The medical department?"

Wendy did not want to get in touch with Blake, but she could not let Dr. Torres receive the money.

Even ignoring the rules of the hospital, it would greatly damage Dr. Torres's image and medical ethics.

"Okay," Wendy said, "after the operation, I will deal with this matter."

"Yes." Dr. Torres looked at the clock on the wall. "It's about time. Prepare yourself and enter the operating room."

There was a saying in the cardiac surgery department of the Eighth Hospital: as long as it was Dr. Torres and Dr. Oliver who attended the surgery, there would be no unsuccessful operation.

Just like most of the previous operations, Mr. Lin's operation was also very successful. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief after the operation.

Before pushing the patient out, Dr. Torres told the nurse. "Keep an eye on the patient for the next 48 hours. If there is anything wrong, contact me immediately."

Wendy asked while taking off her surgical uniform, "Doctor Xu, the operation was very successful. What are you worried about?"

"Although the operation was successful, the patient's condition may be affected by his postoperative reaction," Dr. Torres said, "as his surgeon, it's not wrong to be careful."

Wendy nodded and said, "I've learned a lot!"

After finishing the follow-up work, Wendy sent a message to Blake and asked if she had gotten off work.

"Not yet." Blake replied quickly. "There's something I need to do. I've just finished, and now I'm going to get off work. Is your operation over? Did it go well?"

"It went very well," Wendy said, "I'll wait for you at the gate of the hospital. There's something I need your help with."

Wendy returned to the office to take her bag and put the file inside. She first went to the parking lot and began driving the car out of the hospital grounds. She saw Blake standing at the gate of the hospital under a tree.

She got out of the car, took out the file from her bag, and handed it to Blake.

"What's this?" Blake opened it in confusion and was shocked by the amount of cash inside. "Why are you giving me so much money?"

"It's not for you." Wendy told her everything about Ms. Lin and finally said, "She thinks that I am an intern, so she wants to make use of me. I don't want to make contact with her anymore. Please negotiate with her as a member of staff of the medical department. Doctor Xu said that if she refused to take back the money, you could put it on Mr. Lin's account as his hospital fee."

"I see." Blake put away the file and said, "Don't worry. I'll handle it."

"Thank you." Wendy pointed at the Panamera behind her and said, "Where are you going? I can give you a ride."

Blake smiled and said, "The car is very beautiful."

"It's my cousin's." Wendy opened the door and said, "Get in."

As long as Blake got in, Wendy believed that she could find out whether her relationship with Gavin was real or not.

"Then I won't stand on ceremony." Blake sat in the passenger's seat and told her the address of her home.

Wendy asked while setting up the sat-nav, "Are you going home? Don't you have a date with Gavin today?"

"He has something to do today." Blake changed the subject to Wendy's business. "What about you? Didn't your boyfriend ask you out?"

"Connell?" Wendy replied calmly. "We broke up."
