Chapter 707 I Won't Believe You

"Well, you don't have to say anything," the director looked at Wendy and said with a teasing smile, "Dr. Moore, Lin and Yan got off work early yesterday, so how were you able to see Lin at the gate of the hospital?"

Wendy knew that the director chose to trust Blake instead of her.

Instead of being angry, she laughed and asked, "So?"

"So, the situation is quite clear already-" The director decisively pronounced Wendy's sentence of death, "You have violated the hospital's rules by pocketing the red packet of the patient's family. The hospital will punish you for this. In addition, I'll give you till tomorrow to bring Ms. Lin's money here, and our medical department will come forward and return it to Ms. Lin."

Wendy shook her head and said, "It's not like that. I've already given the money to Blake." She looked at Blake in disbelief. "Why do you deny it? Why are you trying to frame me?"

"Wendy, you can return the money tomorrow. It is still not too late." Blake looked more anxious than her. Then she added, "Dr. Oliver and Dr. Torres value you very much. The hospital will reduce your punishment depending on the circumstances."

"Lin is right," the director looked at Wendy and said sarcastically, "Little girl, don't be too vain. You can buy luxury bags and cars with money, but you can't buy reputation with it. Dr. Moore, you've just started your internship... Don't ruin your future because of greed."

"Greed? Ruin my future?"

"Have you figured out the whole thing?" Wendy slapped on the director's desk and said, "Blake said that she didn't take away the file bag, and you believed her. Why don't you believe me when I said I gave it to her, then? How did you become the director of the medical department?"

In all his time being director of any department, no one had never shouted at him like this.

The director pointed at Wendy with trembling fingers out of anger, saying, "Young people nowadays are clueless about basic courtesy and respect. It's not surprising at all that you would do such an infamous thing and throwing medical ethics down the drain! Wendy, you're barely in your early 20s. Being an intern, without taking red packets from the patients, could you afford to drive a Porsche?"

Wendy was so angry that she sneered and said, "According to your logic, you're qualified to drive a Porsche because you're almost fifty years old and you're also the director of this department, right?" she thought about it and added sarcastically, "But I seem to recall that you're driving a fake Porsche, aren't you?"

Having been provoked by Wendy's words, the director who was already seething, blushed with a fat and fierce-looking face. He roared, "Ms. Lin's complaint is about you and Dr. Torres. Now it is proven that this matter has nothing to do with Dr. Torres. So, Wendy, the hospital will not be lenient with your punishment. Your good days are over!"

"Just punish me," Wendy glanced at Blake and said firmly, "but I will definitely prove that I didn't take Miss Wallace's money. You should cherish this time sitting in the director's office. I will complain about your dereliction of duty once I prove that I'm innocent."

The director opened his eyes wide in disbelief. "Are you threatening me? Aren't you aware that you're just an intern? I can fire you at any time, making impossible for you to graduate!"

"Of course you can," Wendy smiled and said softly, "but before you fire me, I will kick you out of the hospital first."

After that, Wendy left the department's main office and went to explain the situation to Dr. Torres.

"Why didn't Blake admit that she took the file bag?" Dr. Torres seized the key point of the whole matter. "Is there a conflict between you two?"

"She is my brother's girlfriend. I trusted her, so I gave her the file in secret." Wendy shook her head. "I don't know why she framed me even now."

"What are you going to do, then?" asked Dr. Torres.

"I will ask someone to investigate the matter thoroughly and prove that I did not take Ms. Lin's money." Wendy sincerely made a request. "But Dr. Torres, I need you to do me a favor."

"Go ahead," Dr. Torres nodded and said, "I will as long as it's something within my abilities."

"Blake may be aiming at getting me expelled from the hospital," Wendy said, "before I find out the truth, can you...?"

"Dr. Oliver and I will help you." Dr. Torres immediately guessed her request. He comforted her before she could finish her words. "Rest assured, we won't let you leave the hospital."

At this time, Dr. Torres's support was like a warm current invading Wendy's heart. She looked at him gratefully and said, "Thank you for trusting me."

"I've been in touch with you for so long, and I know you well." After a pause, Dr. Torres added, "Even if I didn't trust you, I know that you're not in want of money."

Wendy smiled and went back to the office to deal with something, and it was already time to get off work.

She had deliberately parked the car at the entrance of the hospital. After a while, Blake showed up.

She stepped on the gas and drove the car to block Blake's way. She rolled down the window and looked at Blake. "Get in the car. Let's talk."

Blake looked around and sat in the passenger's seat. Before putting on her seat belt, she sent a voice message to Gavin,"Gavin, I'm off work now. Wendy is going to drive me home."

After the message was sent successfully, she put on her seat belt and looked at Wendy nervously.

Wendy couldn't help sneering, "You specially informed Gavin that you were in my car because you were afraid that I would do something to you, right? You're overestimating yourself; you can't make me lose my mind."

"Wendy, I know that you're very anxious," Blake said, "but I really didn't take away Ms. Lin's file bag."

Wendy didn't expect to see that Blake would continue acting in such circumstances. She turned her head and looked at Blake carefully.

Blake seemed to have been born gentle and harmless. No one would doubt her if she said she was a fairy, let alone her insisting that she didn't take away the file bag.

The temperature of Wendy's smile dropped again. "Blake, if I didn't remember the situation clearly, I would trust you."

"Wendy, what are you talking about? I don't understand..." Blake said innocently with a hint of grievance in her voice.

Wendy could not help but sigh. In terms of acting, Blake was a true master!

Unfortunately, she wasn't interested in appreciating Blake's acting skills.

"Stop acting," Wendy said coldly, "I'm not recording our dialogue, so you don't have to work so hard in acting the part. Tell me the truth, what is your purpose?"

Blake believed what Wendy said.

Given Wendy's nature, if she said she didn't do it, she was not lying; she disdained to use any sort of trickery.

"You said that you would find out the truth, but you can't do it alone," Blake said, "Who will you ask for help? Your omnipotent cousin and cousin-in-law, or Gavin?"

Before Wendy spoke, Blake continued to say, "Why don't you turn to Gavin and see whom he'll trust?"

Wendy slowly understood Blake's purpose. "Blake, you are really... shameless."

Blake predicted that Wendy would ask Gavin for help; at the same time, she would also tell him that Wendy didn't give her the file bag, and that Wendy had told a lie out of jealousy, saying that she had taken away the file bag for the purpose of destroying her reputation and image.

If Gavin believed in Blake, it would prove that she was insignificant in Gavin's heart, and Blake would take the opportunity to ask her to give up.

However, Wendy did not believe it and was unwilling to accept it.

She was unwilling to be slandered by Blake. Nor did she believe that Gavin was such a blind person.

"Blake, I finally see your true colors." Wendy looked at her coldly. "I will definitely let Gavin see clearly what kind of person you are."

Blake smiled confidently and said, "I'll wait."

"Get out," Wendy ordered, "get out of my car!"

She had once thought that Blake was a rarely good girl. Gavin might be happy to be with her.

At the moment, it seemed that she had misjudged her.

Blake's gentleness and consideration were fake; she kept on that pretense all along. That girl's shrewdness was even deeper than the Mariana Trench.

It turned out that Freya was right. Blake was far from being as simple as she looked.

Wendy held the steering wheel and decisively thought to herself, "I can't let Gavin be with Blake."

Blake was unworthy of Gavin, let alone being part of his family!

Wendy started the car and dialed Gavin's number at the same time.

As usual, the phone rang twice and was answered. Wendy went straight to the point. "Gavin, where are you? Go back to the apartment. I want to see you!"

"I'm on my way back to the apartment." Gavin asked indifferently, "What's the matter?"

"It's a very important thing," said Wendy, "See you soon."

After returning to the apartment, Wendy barely made time to park the car and went upstairs right away. Gavin was already sitting in the living room.

She rushed over and asked, "Did Blake say anything to you?"

Gavin raised his head and cast a glance at Wendy lightly. "What do you want to tell me?"

Wendy gasped, and told him the whole story, including her getting the file bag and handing it to Blake who unexpectedly accused her of pocketing the patient's red packet.

At the end of her speech, Wendy was so excited that she couldn't control her emotions. "Gavin, can't you see through such a kind of person as Blake? Do you still want to be with her?"

Gavin was not swayed by her. Instead, he asked coldly, "Do you want to know what Blake told me?"

Wendy was stunned. Sure enough, Blake who first offended really made the first complaint.

She said with a sneer, "You don't have to tell me. I can guess."

Gavin continued, "Blake told me that she got off work very early yesterday, and you didn't give the file bag to her, but you insisted that the file bag was in her hands."

"Ha..." Wendy burst into laughter. "What else did Blake say?"

"She asked me to tell you that it's not too late for you to confess to the medical staff and give back Ms. Lin's money," Gavin said, "And that she would plead for you so as to reduce your punishment imposed by the medical department."

"Gavin, what Blake said is a lie and I'm telling the truth. Would you believe me?"

Wendy stared at Gavin pleadingly, like a drowning person looking at the last glimmer of hope.

Gavin didn't listen to a word she said. He looked at her coldly and rebuked angrily, "Wendy, I know you're mischievous, but I didn't expect you to go that far! Blake is a girl, but you tried to frame her saying she pocketed the patient's money. Do you know how much harm it would do to her?"
