Wendy devoted herself to chatting with Gavin in the group. After a while, she noticed that Joanne hadn't spoken since she got in the car. She clutched her phone and seemed to be deep in thought.
She sent a series of question marks to Gavin and said, "Cousin is silent. What is she thinking about?"
Gavin quickly replied, "I don't know. After all, I am not Brian, who is henpecked and can read his wife's mind."
Wendy, "..."
Gavin reminded her, "Joanne is right next to you. Why don't you just ask Joanne directly?"
Wendy looked at Joanne. At the same time, Joanne's mobile phone rang after receiving a message.
It was the ringtone exclusively for Brian's message.
Almost subconsciously, Joanne unlocked the screen to read Brian's message.
Brian simply said, "I don't have to eat out tonight, so I'll eat with you and Mom."
Joanne smiled and typed a few words,"Okay, I'll make your favorite poached spicy pork slices." Then, she clicked and sent it.
Not long after that, Joanne and Wendy returned to the private hospital.
Joanne did not mention that she had met Rosalyn. She washed some fruits for Iris, and then she took the other things to the suite on the top floor and began to make dinner.
There were five people in total, so she made six dishes and one soup, including poached spicy pork slices and steamed fish, which were both Brian's favorite dishes.
Of course, Iris was the one who needed the most special care.
Iris was injured, so she would not have much of an appetite. Joanne specially made a small pot of light lean pork congee for her.
Right on the dot at six o'clock, Brian arrived at the hospital after work and pushed Iris upstairs with Gavin.
Joanne poured a glass of warm water for Iris. "Mom, would you like dishes or congee?"
"I have a poor appetite. I'll have some congee," Iris smiled faintly. She was still easygoing and kind.
"Okay." Joanne filled most of the bowl with congee, put it in front of Iris, and reminded her, "It's freshly cooked. Be careful, it's hot."
Maybe others did not know, but Brian could tell at a glance that Joanne specially made this pot of congee for Iris.
Brian's eyes softened a little when he looked at Joanne. He helped her pull out the chair and then sat down beside her.
After he picked up his chopsticks, Brian would always put the dishes that Joanne liked on her small plate first.
Joanne smiled, "Thank you."
Gavin suddenly wanted to follow suit. He glanced at Wendy. However his little greedy cat had been eating happily for quite some time, and there was no need for him to follow suit at all.
"That's good. It's easy to take care of her."
They had a pleasant meal.
After the meal, Iris urged Brian and Joanne to go back, because she was worried about Aiden and Romy.
Joanne checked the messages in the group chat. Probably when they were eating, Freya sent a message and reported that Aiden and Romy had fallen asleep after eating, and she also sent a photo of the two babies sleeping soundly.
Joanne showed Iris the photo. "Mom, look, Aiden and Romy are very obedient."
Iris hadn't seen the two babies for a long time. She looked eagerly at their photo. They were indeed obedient, and she couldn't help smiling with relief.
Joanne pushed Iris's wheelchair and said, "Mom, I'll take you downstairs." Then, she looked back at Brian.
Brian could guess what Joanne was going to do and gave her a knowing look. "I'll wait for you here."
Back in Iris's suite, Joanne said, "Mom, I'll help you take a shower."
Iris attached great importance to her image.
In Joanne's memory, even when Iris was hiding in her grandmother's old house, she would dress herself up carefully and make herself clean and decent.
Brian's mysophobia was probably inherited from Iris.
In the past few days in the Kent family home, apart from the physical torture, the most unbearable thing for Iris was probably that she was dirty and sloppy.
Now, she was finally back, but she was injured, so it was not convenient for her to take a shower at all.
Therefore, Joanne offered to help her take a shower.
Iris quickly waved her hand. "Joanne, I'm already very happy that you're willing to help me. But there are plenty of nurses here, and I won't trouble you with this kind of thing."
Joanne knew the old lady too well. She was absolutely too shy to ask the nurse for help. However, she also could not bear to be dirty.
If she really left Iris alone here like this, the old lady would definitely have difficulty washing herself in the bathroom, and she might even get injured.
"I'm worried," Joanne said, "so let me help you."
"Joanne..." Iris still wanted to refuse.
"Mom, when Brian was very young, it was you who helped him take a shower," Joanne said, "and now that you've grown old, it is inevitable that it will be inconvenient for you to take a shower. But Brian can't help you, and the nurses are not careful enough, so I am the best candidate!
"In the future, I'll take care of you just like the way you took care of Brian when he was young!"
Joanne did this not only because she wanted to, but also because she wanted Brian to have peace of mind when he went to work.
She had just begun to get involved in the business, and she was not able to help Brian too much.
However, she could take care of their family!
After Joanne helped Iris take a shower, her sleeves were somewhat wet and her wrists got cold, but she did not bother too much about it. She twisted the sleeves to wring out the water and sent a message to Brian who was downstairs.
When Brian entered the door, he was in a call, his mobile phone in his hand. It seemed that he was giving orders to his subordinates. He asked, "Is there anything else you are not clear about?"
Probably getting a negative answer, Brian hung up the phone.
Joanne helped tidy up Iris's hair. Although the old lady was still lying on the hospital bed, she looked refreshed. Seeing Brian coming in, she urged, "Hurry and take Joanne back. It's getting late."
"OK."
Brian gave a few words of advice to the nurse next to him and then left with Joanne.
The couple walked hand in hand along the corridor. They looked very intimate.
After entering the elevator, Joanne asked, "Did you hear the voice messages sent by Wendy in the group chat?"
"I heard them all," Brian said, "and I'm considering whether to change your bodyguards."
"Why?" Joanne was confused. "They're very good."
Brian did not agree. "They should have noticed that Rosalyn was in the mall in advance."
"Mr. Lambert, your requirements are too strict." Joanne defended the bodyguards. "Rosalyn is a free person, and she is not under their control. How would they always know Rosalyn's whereabouts?"
Brian said coldly, "Based on the salaries I pay them, this requirement is not strict at all."
Joanne suddenly became curious. "How much is their annual salary?"
"Three million." After a pause, Brian added, "Dollars."
Joanne calculated it in dollar terms and found that the annual salary of those bodyguards was many times more than that of her salary when she worked at the police station.
She stared at Brian with her bright eyes. "Honey, do you still need bodyguards?"
Brian poked Joanne's forehead. "Don't look at me like that. Even if I need bodyguards, you're not wanted. Being Mrs. Lambert, your annual salary is much higher than that of the bodyguards."
"My annual salary?" Joanne felt it was a little unfair. "You didn't even give me a check!"
"You don't need a check," Brian said, "because the money I earn is all yours. Your annual salary... can rank among the top 100 in the whole world."
There were nearly seven billion people in the world.
"Rank among the top 100 with seven billion people..."
Joanne felt inexplicably guilty and did not dare to think further.
"Did the incident with Rosalyn in the mall today affect you?" Brian suddenly changed the topic.
Joanne shook her head. "No. Speaking of that, I was the one who affected her. After going back, she will definitely think about seeking revenge on me secretly."
After all, she made Rosalyn feel so humiliated this time.
"No," Brian said.
Joanne did not understand for a moment. "What do you mean?"
Brian said calmly, "I just gave an order that from today on, Rosalyn is not allowed to step into any Lambert Group' shopping malls."
Joanne was a little worried. "Will this give rise to any controversy? We operate malls for selling goods and services. Since Rosalyn is a customer, is it really good for us to keep Rosalyn out? Besides, I don't often go to the malls."
Brian sneered and said firmly and calmly, "Even if it really gives rise to any controversy, the public will still support us."
At this time, the elevator arrived on the ground floor. Brian ushered Joanne out, got in the car, and they drove back to the top of the mountain.
Winston drove fast and very soon they arrived at the door of the small villa.
Joanne rushed into the house as soon as she got out of the car. Martha saw her and whispered, "Mrs. Lambert, Romy and Aiden are asleep. Mr. Scott just came back and took Miss Norris to the club for dinner."
Only then did Joanne remember that Freya had just sent a photo of the two babies sleeping in the group.
She slowed down and went up to see the two babies.
Since the incident which involved Aunt Helen and Iris, the two babies had become exceptionally obedient. At this moment, they were sleeping quietly in their cribs, like two quiet and lovely little angels.
Soon, Brian pushed the door open and came in. He said, "Chris and Freya came back after dinner. Let's go downstairs."
As soon as Joanne went downstairs, Freya asked, "How is Aunt Iris?"
"She's out of danger now, and she can be discharged from the hospital after her wounds are completely healed." Joanne then changed the topic. "What about Aiden and Romy? Were they obedient today?"
"Aiden has always been very obedient, and Romy was difficult to deal with." Freya smiled cunningly. "However, as long as I told her that her grandma was not well and her mom was busy, the little girl would soon stop crying. It's amazing."
"It may be just a coincidence." Joanne hesitated for a moment and told Freya something about Yuna.
After listening, Freya appeared distracted for a long time.
"How could this be?
"Yuna has been back, hasn't she? She is pregnant with Wesley's child and also promised to marry him.
"How could she take Mifepristone & Misoprostol to kill her own child?"
"Is there any misunderstanding between Boss Hayes and Yuna?" Freya put her hand on the belly and said, "I didn't like children before, but since I was pregnant, I really feel that nothing is more important than my child. Even my dearest one can't bear to hurt my child, let alone myself!"
