When Wesley woke up, it was already morning.
He opened his eyes and the dream from last night came to his mind.
"Dad, why did you and Mom abandon me?"
The child's plaintive cry still echoed in his ears.
Wesley's heart jolted. He tried hard to recall the child's face in the dream.
The sad thing was that he remembered everything except the appearance of the child.
He remembered the child's cries and complaints, but he could not remember what the child looked like.
Was the child punishing him?
If he were the child, he would not let such an incompetent father remember him, either.
Wesley suddenly felt that he was not only being ridiculous but pathetic also.
He smiled wryly and a few moments later, he got up as if nothing had happened.
No one would know about Wesley's dream of his child and the immense grief he felt.
After breakfast, Wesley asked Kai and the driver to take him to the company.
Before Wesley went out, Aunt Helen warned him, "Little Seven, don't work too late. Come back early. I'll wait for you to have dinner together."
Wesley looked at his watch and said, "I'll be back at six."
A hint of joy appeared on Aunt Helen's face. She waved her hand and said, "Okay. Go."
When he overheard their conversation, Kai thought that he was hallucinating.
After getting in the car, Kai couldn't help asking, "Brother Wesley, are you not going to work hard today?"
Wesley ignored Kai's question and asked, "Have you done what I asked you to do yesterday?"
Kai patted his thigh and said with ease, "Of course!"
Wesley turned on his laptop and said while checking the emails, "Tell me about my schedule today."
Wesley's serious attitude made Kai snap out of his trance.
Overnight, Wesley seemed to return to the persona of the former Brother Wesley before he knew Yuna. He was mysterious, powerful, calm, and decisive. His personal feelings would not interfere with his businesses.
Kai sighed deeply, not knowing whether to be happy or worried.
Wesley glanced at Kai and soon switched his focus back to the computer screen. "What's wrong?" He asked indifferently.
"Brother Wesley, in the past, I thought it was normal for you to be like this. But now I don't think so."
"Brother Wesley, do you know why?"
Kai looked very upset.
However, he was a smart guy and quickly figured it out.
In the past, he thought Wesley was normal because he was used to the indifferent and ruthless Wesley. It seemed that Wesley was born like this and would never change.
Yuna was like a musical interlude that suddenly danced into Wesley's life. Because of her, he became lively and sentient. He would laugh, cry, and he would even have mood swings.
Because of her, he could occasionally become a friendly and ordinary person.
Because of her, he looked happy.
As Wesley's brother and working partner, Kai would much prefer Wesley to be like this.
However, overnight, Wesley reverted to his old self.
Wesley ignored Kai's question. He sent an e-mail to him and ordered, "Investigate every recent business of the Scott Group."
A year ago, the Scott Group was almost acquired by Brian. However, Rowdy suddenly appeared and secretly funded the Scott Group, which enabled him to become the company's CEO.
It seemed that the Scott Group had overcome their difficulties.
But Kai knew clearly what Rowdy had used the Scott Group to do.
Kai tutted and said, "Brother Wesley, are you going to confront Rowdy? He hurt Aunt Helen badly. You won't let him off. I knew it!"
Wesley frowned and complained, "Kai, when did you become so talkative?"
Kai blurted out, "Yuna used to be very talkative. Why didn't you chide her? Brother Wesley, you treat us differently!"
Wesley's eyes suddenly turned cold. "Stop the car!" He ordered.
Kai suddenly realized he had made a mistake. "Brother Wesley..."
Wesley had repeatedly emphasized that Yuna's name should not be uttered in his presence unless she became their target one day.
Kai had regarded Wesley and Yuna as a couple. He was not used to the fact that they had turned against each other and therefore he spoke out of turn.
How could he apologize to Wesley so that Wesley would forgive him?
While Kai was thinking, the driver had followed Wesley's order and stopped the car.
"Get out," Wesley ordered Kai,
Kai knew that he had completely angered Wesley. No matter how hard he tried to defend himself, Wesley would not forgive him. So he could only get out of the car dejectedly.
What he couldn't understand was why Wesley hated Yuna so much?
The last time when Yuna ran away, Wesley was also very angry. But it didn't matter if he occasionally joked about it. Why did Wesley explode this time?
The driver was also frightened by Wesley. After Kai got out of the car, he asked carefully, "Brother Wesley, do we...just leave?"
He meant whether they were going to abandon Kai.
"Go to the company," Wesley said in an icy tone.
It was obvious that he didn't care about Kai.
The driver glanced at Kai through the rearview mirror. Although he sympathized with Kai, he didn't dare to say anything. He quickly started the car and drove to the company.
Kai scratched his head, but it was too late to have any regrets. He could only call someone to pick him up.
In the afternoon, Wesley went back to the old house on time to have dinner with Aunt Helen. When Aunt Helen asked about Kai, he replied perfunctorily. It was obvious he didn't want to talk too much about Kai.
Aunt Helen noticed that something was wrong. She called Wesley's driver and asked him what was going on.
The driver told her that when they left for the company in the morning, Kai brought up Yuna's name and was driven away by Brother Wesley.
Aunt Helen understood and said, "Tell the others not to talk about Yuna in front of Wesley in the future."
Aunt Helen usually called Wesley "Little Seven".
However, except for those who were close to Wesley such as Kai and Brian, she would address Wesley by his name in front of other subordinates and outsiders.
It was then made known among the subordinates that Yuna once again became Wesley's taboo subject.
The name "Yuna" disappeared from Wesley's life.
Wesley's life now followed a routine.
He got up early and did morning exercises for two hours. Then he would have breakfast with Aunt Helen and go to the company.
After dealing with businesses and other affairs, he would go home and have dinner with Aunt Helen if there were no social activities.
Seemingly, Yuna's second betrayal didn't affect Wesley at all.
Someone teased that Brother Wesley had got used to it.
Only Wesley himself knew that this time, he had been fatally hurt by Yuna.
Once he closed his eyes, the child's voice would ring in his ears -
"Dad, why did you and Mom abandon me?"
"Dad, it hurts."
He wanted to explain and keep the child.
But, the reality was cruel. He would never have such a chance.
In the long nights, Wesley could only rely on sleeping pills to fall asleep.
Each time before going to bed, he always wondered whether the child would look for him in his dreams, even though the child only came to question him.
However, he never dreamt about the child again and only spent the dull nights alone.
When he woke up in the morning, he felt empty inside. The whole room was shrouded in dead silence, which made him wonder whether he was the only one left in the world.
But the world was soon bustling again.
Wesley came to realize that the earth was still running, but the child would not forgive him nor come back to his dreams.
After three days, Wesley was finally willing to see Kai. Having learned his lesson, Kai would rather blather with Wesley than mention Yuna.
In the evening, Joanne contacted Kai.
Kai was shocked. Joanne was like a goddess. How could she be concerned about him?
It turned out that Kai thought too much. Joanne called to ask about Wesley.
"Kai, how was Wesley after you went back?" Joanne asked directly.
Kai told Joanne about Wesley's recent situation. In the end, he concluded, "Outwardly, Brother Wesley seems to be normal. But as far as I know, he is not alright at all! But Mrs. Lambert, don't tell Seven Brother this. Otherwise, he will be angry with me again."
"Don't worry, I will keep it a secret for you," Joanne smiled, "I have no other questions. Thank you, goodbye."
After hanging up the phone, Joanne flicked a report in her hand, sighing.
Brian looked away from the computer screen and glanced at Joanne and asked, "Things aren't going well?"
"No, no progress on Wesley's side. Aunt Helen agreed to keep in touch with me. But Wesley doesn't want to tell her anything. Kai doesn't dare to annoy Wesley anymore."
"Fortunately, I found something!" Joanne's tone perked up again. She shook the report in her hand.
This was the recent attendance record of the doctors and nurses from the department of gynecology and obstetrics of the Eighth Hospital that she managed to get.
Brian did not quite understand. He asked, "Joanne, why did you start with the attendance records?"
Joanne smiled mysteriously and explained slowly, "I think if Yuna was really found to be pregnant in the Eighth Hospital, Rowdy would definitely not let Wesley know because Wesley was trying to bring Yuna back during that time. Rowdy knew Wesley wanted Yuna."
"So?" Brian motioned for Joanne to continue.
"According to Rowdy's style, he would definitely hide the doctors and nurses who did the examination for Yuna," Joanne analyzed clearly, "so, when Yuna stayed with us, if there was a doctor who applied for leave, then there must be something wrong with this doctor!"
Brian became interested. He left his seat and came to sit beside Joanne. "Did you find anything on this record?" he asked.
"Of course!" Joanne circled the name "Liu Mingfang" on the record with a red pen and said firmly, "This doctor is very suspicious!"
Brian browsed the attendance record of Dr. Liu Mingfang and soon realized why Joanne suspected this doctor.
It was not because Joanne was too smart, but the doctor's attendance record was too... coincidental.
