Chapter 951 Wesley's Narcissism

Joanne stayed at home with her two children, and finally, she could take a break. She fiddled with her phone and saw a news notification from a financial newspaper:

In the afternoon, the closing quotation stock price of Lopez Enterprises plummeted. Its major shareholders all asked to withdraw their funds from the company, and its senior executives handed in their resignation resolutely.

An insider told the newspaper that both the Lopez Enterprises and Lopez Family were in a mess.

It was obvious that someone was targeting the Lopez Enterprises, and this person had to be very powerful judging by that the Lopez Family, who was powerful as well, was defeated so quickly.

It was difficult to guess who this person was.

However, Joanne knew who it was without guessing.

Nevertheless, Brian had never mentioned it to her.

When it almost got dark, Brian came back. Joanne wanted to ask about the news of the Zhong family, but Brian took her to the fitting room upstairs.

In addition to their bedroom, the fitting room was the second place where they could make out in the house.

Joanne blushed and quickly suppressed her indescribable emotions. "Brian..."

Brian handed her a set of sportswear and said, "Change into it. You can ask me a question after you run every kilometer."

Joanne gritted her teeth and changed into her sportswear.

If Brian tried to force her to keep running in this way, she could only surrender and admit that Brian had come up with a good idea!

After warming up, Joanne started running with Brian.

Because her legs were still sore, it was much harder for her to run than yesterday, and she could hardly move her feet.

However, for the chance to ask him questions, she gave it her all!

Brian didn't take pity on her. She was not good at exercising, so it was inevitable that she would feel pain during the process, but everything would be fine after she managed to overcome it.

After running for a kilometer, Joanne stopped and her legs went so weak that she almost fell to the ground.

Brian quickly held her and said, "Take a deep breath. Don't sit down immediately."

Joanne took a few deep breaths. "I want to ask you about the Lopez Enterprises."

"Yes, it's me who did it," Brian said. "Because Casper was put into prison, the Lopez Family has always hated the Lambert Group. In this case, the best way to solve the matter is to make the Lopez Family leave Arlington."

Joanne expressed her doubts. "Are you sure?"

Brian took a deep look at her. "If they leave Arlington now, they will still have a chance to make a comeback. If they insist on staying here, they will be ruined forever."

Joanne understood.

Brian forced the Lopez Family to leave Arlington just because he didn't want to see them in the city again, not because he was being considerate to them.

It made sense.

Since Iris was so badly injured because of the Lopez Family, Brian could not wait to turn the entire Lopez Family into ashes. How could he be considerate to them?

Joanne finally understood why people said that the last person they wanted to mess with in Arlington was Brian.

However, she still had worries and asked hesitantly, "Will the Lopez Family fight back just as the Scott Group did?"

Before their children were born, Brian had tried to acquire the Scott Group.

Just as he was about to succeed, Rowdy suddenly invested secretly in the Scott Group and became the CEO of the group.

Joanne was afraid that such an accident would happen again.

"Don't worry. It won't happen again," Brian said. "This time, Rowdy should be busy handling his own problems."

Joanne was excited to hear the words "busy handling his own problems".

She wanted to learn more details, but Brian said before she could ask any question, "If you want to ask me another question, you need to run another kilometer."

Joanne's eyes widened in shock. "Am I your wife?"

Brian raised his eyebrows and replied, "Yes, but I'm a man of principles."

Joanne was speechless and started to run silently.

After running for another two or three kilometers, Joanne suddenly didn't feel that tired anymore and stopped panting heavily. She started to enjoy running.

After running five kilometers, Joanne felt comfortable all over.

Brian smiled when he found that Joanne no longer wore a bitter smile. "Do you find it enjoyable?" He asked.

Joanne looked at the garden in the twilight and nodded. "I've decided to run with you from tomorrow."

As a medical examiner, she knew the human body better than most people in the world, so she naturally knew that if one wanted to remain healthy, he would need to do a certain amount of exercise.

Gavin had already fallen sick. She didn't want to fall sick, lie in the hospital for treatment, or make those who she loved worry about her.

Before falling asleep, Joanne kept snuggling into Brian's arms and pressed her body against his as if she wanted their bodies to merge into one.

Brian stroked Joanne's hair and asked, "What's wrong?"

"Gavin is going to receive his last treatment tomorrow. I'm a little worried. What if..."

Joanne couldn't bear to continue.

She couldn't face it if things went worse.

Brian wrapped his arms around her head tightly. "Noah and Henry will do their best. If the treatment effect is not ideal, they will think of another way."

"Mm," Joanne said gloomily.

"Joanne, Gavin has a medical team," Brian said softly. "Let those doctors take care of Gavin's condition. You should have a good rest. You have to go to the hospital to accompany Wendy and Gavin tomorrow, and I can't go with you as I'm busy tomorrow."

Joanne nodded. "Okay."

Brian kissed Joanne's forehead. "Close your eyes and sleep."

Perhaps because Brian's embrace eased her tension, Joanne soon fell asleep.

The next day.

Brian had to attend some important meetings, so he went to the company early.

Joanne thought for a moment and decided to take her two children with her to the hospital. She left them in Iris's ward and asked Martha to take care of them. Then, she went to find Wendy and Gavin.

Gavin's treatment would begin at 10 o'clock, and there were still 30 minutes left.

Joanne walked out of the elevator and saw Wesley standing at the door of the ward. She was confused and asked, "Wesley, why don't you go in?"

Wesley replied, "Gavin and Wendy are in the room."

Joanne gave him a look of "I got it" and stood side by side with Wesley.

Both of them remained silent, which made the atmosphere a little embarrassing.

To ease the embarrassment, Joanne said, "Brian has something to do and will come in the afternoon."

"He told me about it." Wesley's voice was indifferent. "It doesn't matter. Since I'm here, he doesn't need to come in person."

Joanne really didn't know what to say, and she just replied with a "hmm".

Wesley didn't say anything more. He stood there with a poker face, like an ice sculpture. His cold aura seemed to be able to freeze the surrounding air.

Joanne couldn't help rubbing her arms to keep them warm. She thought to herself, "No wonder Yuna always complains about Wesley."

It was too difficult for ordinary people to bear his pressing aura.

Joanne was under a lot of pressure standing with him.

In the ward, Gavin and Wendy had no idea what was happening outside.

They had been preparing for this day for a long time.

Wendy had thought that she wouldn't be very nervous when this day came and that she would face it calmly.

However, since Gavin's fate would be determined this day, how could she not be nervous?

When Henry told her that it was almost time Gavin received his treatment, Wendy's eyes became tearful. She grabbed Gavin's hand and said, "You know, you are not my type."

Wendy had always told him that Brian and Chris were her types.

"Yeah, I know. But it's too late to regret." With that, Gavin held Wendy's hand tightly. "We are already engaged."

"As long as we're not married yet, I could change my mind." Wendy grabbed Gavin more and more tightly. "So, you'd better come out safely this time. Otherwise, I'll change my mind and go to pursue men like Brian and Chris."

In the end, Wendy's eyes became tearful again.

Gavin sighed. "Silly girl."

He held Wendy in his arms, lowered his head, and kissed her gently on the lips.

Wendy closed her eyes and kept persuading herself not to cry. Gavin was going to receive his last treatment soon, so she shouldn't make him worry.

She absolutely could not cry.

Wendy finally held back her tears while Gavin kissed her gently.

Not long after, her phone rang again. Henry's urging voice came from the receiver. "Gavin, you should get ready."

Gavin let go of Wendy's hands and rubbed her forehead intimately with his chin. "Don't cry. I will wake up tomorrow at the latest."

Wendy held back her tears and nodded.

She was a doctor as well, so she knew Gavin's treatment couldn't be delayed. She grabbed his hand and walked out, saying, "Go. Go to Henry."

After changing his clothes, Gavin lay on the operating bed and was pushed into the operating room.

Wendy's heart jumped quickly; she was so nervous. She grabbed Gavin's hand and followed him all the way.

Gavin mouthed, "Wait for me to come out after the treatment."

Wendy's eyes became tearful once more. She wanted to say something, but she felt like there was a fireball stuck in her throat that she couldn't speak, no matter how hard she tried.

When they arrived at the operating room, the nurse stopped Wendy. "Please wait outside, miss."

Wendy was forced to let go of Gavin's hand, and she finally cried out, "Gavin!"

The operating room's door closed with a click. It was unknown whether Gavin heard Wendy's voice or not, but Wendy could not hear his response.

All of a sudden, Wendy burst into tears. She held onto the door of the operating room as if she wanted to push the door open.

Joanne came over and held Wendy's shoulder with one hand. "Wendy, come with me and wait over there."

Wendy turned around and looked at Joanne with tears in her eyes. "Joanne, I regretted it."

Joanne was confused. "What do you mean?"

Wendy looked like she was about to cry. "Before Gavin was pushed into the room, I threatened him that if he didn't hold on, I would find another boyfriend who is like my cousin and your husband."

"Huh?" Joanne was confused. "Why do you want to find another boyfriend who is like my brother and Brian?"

Wendy said in a crying voice, "Because they are my type!" After that, she suddenly realized that what Joanne said was not the point...

Joanne firmly believed that Wendy, a naive girl, must have been deceived by all kinds of news reports that praised Brian.

Wesley handed Wendy a handkerchief but didn't say anything, but his expression showed that he despised Wendy.

Wendy took the handkerchief, wiped her tears off, and looked at Wesley in confusion. "Boss Hayes, why are you looking at me like that?"

"Don't get me wrong," Wesley said, "I'm just thinking that you have poor taste. I can't believe you like Brian."

Wendy was distracted by the topic and she asked curiously, "What kind of men should I like that you will think I have a good taste?"

Wesley replied in a naturally proud tone, "Of course, men like me."
