Chapter 3 Flirting With Other Men in Front of Him

Zachary was about to explode with rage when Eric jumped in, grabbing his wrist in panic.

"Jesus, Zach! We're in public, for crying out loud!" Eric was terrified Zachary might cause a scene with Rebecca right here in front of everyone.

Something wasn't adding up though. Last Eric knew, after Danielle saved Zachary's life, he'd sworn to be with her. So what was with this sudden interest in Rebecca?!

Zachary was grinding his teeth when Eric suddenly yelled, "Holy crap! Are you seeing this?"

Zachary's head whipped around. There was Rebecca, slow dancing with a handsome man in a suit. Zachary recognized him as the notorious playboy, Joel, from the Hunter family.

Rebecca had one hand on Joel’s shoulder, her every move captivating in the shifting lights. When he handed her a drink, she accepted with a flirtatious laugh.

"Mr. Hunter, are you married?" Rebecca slurred, clearly tipsy.

Joel, visibly affected by her charms, swallowed hard. "I'm single."

"Me too," Rebecca purred, her red lips curving into a seductive smile.

Zachary's face darkened at observing Rebecca flirting with a man other than him. He shouldn't care, but why couldn't he tear his eyes away from her?

Joel looked surprised. "Aren’t you married to Zachary Adams?"

Rebecca pressed a finger to his lips. "Who says married people can't get divorced?"

Zachary's eyes narrowed, anger bubbling up inside him. Hadn't Rebecca sworn she loved only him?

"Miss Harper, are we...?" Joel’s hand slid around her waist.

"Yes. We’re on a date," Rebecca said, her eyes hazy. "Want to do something even more exciting?"

"Absolutely," Joel grinned, leading her toward a private room.

As Joel pressed Rebecca against the door to the private room, about to kiss her, a hand suddenly grabbed Rebecca's wrist, and another shoved Joel away forcefully.

"You dare touch my woman?" Zachary's voice was ice cold. "Get lost!"

"M-Mr. Adams! I'm sorry, I was drunk—I'm leaving!" In a sudden burst of fear, Joel quickly scrambled away, becoming instantly sober.

Rebecca blinked hard, barely making out Zachary's face through her drunken haze.

What was he doing here?

Zachary dragged Rebecca into the private room, slamming the door behind them.

He pressed her against the wall, gripping her chin as he leaned in close. The tension was electric. Rebecca's breath quickened as she instinctively pushed against his chest. "Let go."

She was confused. Why was he here? Was he jealous of seeing her with another man?

She quickly laughed at herself. 'Don't flatter yourself. Zachary never loved you. How could he be jealous?' She thought.

"You're my wife. Why should I let go?" Zachary growled, his arm around her waist, his hand caressing her cheek.

The dim lights of the room made his striking features even more captivating.

Once upon a time, Rebecca would have been mesmerized. Now, she just turned away indifferently. "We're already divorced."

"Did we get a divorce decree?" Zachary asked through gritted teeth.

He suddenly felt uneasy. This time, Rebecca didn't seem to be throwing a tantrum—she truly seemed determined to divorce him. He should feel relieved, so why did he feel so unsettled?

"I left the divorce papers at home. Didn't you see them?" Rebecca raised an eyebrow. "Oh right, you've probably been busy with your precious Danielle lately—no time to come home."

Then she added, "By the way, those were the divorce papers you drafted before. You already signed them, and now so have I. So, we're done, right?"

Zachary fell silent.

Their marriage had been forced on them. Danielle had almost died saving him once, and he'd promised to marry her. But his mother refused to let him marry Danielle. He'd always resented marrying Rebecca instead.

He'd drafted those divorce papers long ago, but Rebecca had never had the heart to sign them—until now.

"Mr. Adams, it’s just a matter of time until we get the official divorce certificate." Rebecca broke free from his grip and turned to leave.

"Stop right there!" Zachary grabbed her wrist. "Where are you going?"

"We're divorced. Why do you care?" Rebecca looked him up and down, her smile tinged with mockery. "Mr. Hunter is still waiting for me outside."

Zachary was shocked and furious.

The old Rebecca, who only had eyes for him, seemed gone for good!

"You're going to flirt with random men?" Zachary growled, gripping her wrist tightly. "We're not officially divorced yet - don't you dare!"

Rebecca smoothly shook off Zachary's grip.

Why shouldn't she dare?

With a faint smile and the gentlest tone, she delivered the coldest words: "Ex-husband, you're overstepping."

That "ex-husband" ignited Zachary's fury.

With a sudden jerk, he pulled Rebecca toward him, gripping her waist and pushing her against the wall. Without warning, he kissed her fiercely.
