Rebecca kneeled down and swiftly removed Mr. Mendes's tie, tossing it aside.
Danielle looked at Rebecca, frowning as she asked, "Becky, what are you doing? Can you deal with this?"
The bystanders stood there, dumbfounded.
"If Miss Rogers couldn't do it, how could this useless woman?" asked the lady in the polka dot outfit.
"If Rebecca, that worthless girl, can save Mr. Mendes, I'll bow down to her!" said a man in a brown suit, who looked to be thirty-something.
Danielle took secret pleasure in hearing everyone insult Rebecca. She pursed her lips and said gently, "Don't push yourself just because people said a few things about you, Becky."
Danielle reached out to grab Rebecca's arm, putting on a face of concern for Rebecca's well-being.
Rebecca shook her off, her eyes narrowing dangerously. "Shut up."
Danielle fell silent immediately; Rebecca's fierce gaze filled her with an inexplicable fear.
"Rebecca, for the sake of our years as husband and wife, I'm warning you not to meddle," Zachary said, his brows furrowed.
Rebecca looked up at Zachary, smiling bitterly. "Do you also think I'm an ignorant good-for-nothing?"
His silence was as good as a confirmation.
Rebecca sniffled, saying helplessly, "It's a pity that after years of marriage, you don't understand me at all."
Zachary gulped as he looked at Rebecca with complex emotions, feeling inexplicably troubled.
Rebecca took out the pen.
At that moment, everyone was stunned. At such a critical time, why was she pulling out a pen?
"The Harper family's failure better not cause a death here, or else..."
Just as everyone was discussing, Rebecca did something even more shocking.
She disassembled the front section of the pen and swiftly inserted it into Mr. Mendes's neck. Her movements were clean, quick, and decisive.
The crowd erupted again, with angry shouts growing louder, "Rebecca, have you lost your mind?"
Danielle couldn't help but grip Zachary's arm tighter, her eyes wide. 'This was... establishing an emergency artificial airway? Gosh, Rebecca was so bold!' She thought to herself.
Rebecca leaned down, blowing air into the exposed part of the pen, then continuously pressing on Mr. Mendes's chest, her expression extremely serious.
After what seemed like an eternity, Mr. Mendes's fingers started moving again.
The hall, full of doubtful voices just moments before, suddenly fell silent.
Someone whispered, "Did she save him?"
"How is that possible? Miss Rogers couldn't do it—how could Rebecca’s reckless actions work?" the lady in the pantsuit wondered out loud.
Just then, a server burst into the room and said, "The ambulance is here!"
Two paramedics rushed in with a stretcher, followed by Mr. Mendes’s doctor, who happened to be close by.
Rebecca finally breathed a sigh of relief. She helped lift Mr. Mendes onto the stretcher, all while briefing the doctor.
"The patient has a congenital heart condition. When he first collapsed, we gave him nitroglycerin. He regained consciousness briefly but quickly fell unconscious again."
"I suspected he might have severe asthma, possibly causing an airway obstruction. In the emergency, I performed a cricothyroidotomy."
At that moment, Mr. Mendes's son, Ivan, hurried into the room, looking anxious. The man was dressed in a suit and wearing glasses, appearing cultured and polite.
He nodded slightly to Rebecca, which confused her. Was he greeting her?
After a quick examination, the doctor turned to Rebecca and said, "Ma'am, your judgment was spot on, and your action was both bold and perfect! Thank you for buying us precious time. If it weren't for you, the patient might have..."
Those who had doubted Rebecca earlier were now dumbfounded.
Could it be that this so-called failure from the Harper family had some real skills?
Rebecca casually glanced toward Zachary. Danielle must have said something because he immediately picked her up and walked away.
Disappointed, Rebecca looked away, her heart skipping a beat, feeling a sharp pain as if pricked by a needle.
Before the ambulance left, Ivan took out a gold-embossed business card from his pocket and handed it to Rebecca, saying gratefully, "Thank you for saving my father. This is my card. I'll come see you later to express my gratitude properly!"
"Mr. Mendes, you're too kind. Please hurry to the hospital," Rebecca replied calmly.
Ivan nodded and left.
Rebecca looked around at the crowd. There was a sense of discomfort in everyone's expressions.
They had repeatedly called her useless, yet she had saved Mr. Mendes at the critical moment. Wasn't this a slap in their faces?
Rebecca raised her eyes slightly, her voice lazy, "Earlier, who was it that said they'd kneel and bow to me if I saved Mr. Mendes?"
The people who were about to leave as if nothing had happened suddenly stopped in their tracks.
The room fell silent, an invisible pressure making them feel ashamed. Suddenly, a man in his thirties with a brown suit was pushed forward.
Rebecca sized up the man, the corners of her eyes slightly upturned. She curved her red lips and forcefully uttered two words to the man, "Kneel down!"
The man, faced with her icy stare, felt a bit guilty. "I was just kidding. You don't have to make this difficult, right?"
Rebecca snorted, her gaze cold and sharp, "Since you don't want to kneel, let me help you."
As soon as she finished speaking, she swiftly extended her right leg and kicked hard at the back of the man's knees!
With a "thud," the man fell to his knees, his kneecaps slamming hard onto the ground. He looked utterly pathetic.
He tried to stand up, but Rebecca pressed down on his shoulder, immobilizing him.
The man glared at her angrily, looking defiant, while those around looked at Rebecca with awe.
Who would have thought that the so-called failure from the Harper family had such guts?
Rebecca looked down, arrogant and aggressive, "See? You're kneeling now, aren't you?"
With that, she left without a backward glance.
Rebecca exited the hotel, feeling a bit gloomy.
She hadn't received the surprise her father had prepared for her, but instead had gotten a nasty shock from Zachary and Danielle.
Unexpectedly, just as she reached the hotel entrance, she ran into Zachary again.
He was leaning against a Maybach, looking relaxed. Those long legs and that handsome face were particularly eye-catching.
Rebecca pretended not to see him and walked away, but he called out to her: "Rebecca, I've been waiting for you."
