This day, though Layla did not have any class, she went to Dervay Saints Academy early in the morning.
She had failed to keep the appointment with Zion because of Trevor yesterday. So, she needed to explain that to him, for she could not let the president of FLY Dance Club feel disrespected.
Layla found nobody in the dancing room when she arrived there. It seemed that all members of the club had classes to attend. Layla did not want to practice dancing so that she had a rest in the rest area, hoping to run into Zion or some other members..
Unfortunately, however, instead of those who she really waited for, the one who she had the least expectation to meet appeared.
Still in a basketball jersey and carrying a big backpack, Reed walked in and came over to Layla in a casual manner.
"Why are you here?" asked Layla threw him a disgusted stare.
"Why can't I be here?" Reed asked Layla in reply and took a seat next to her while dropping his backpack on the floor.
"Ugh!" Layla showed him a scornful look. Reed then had no choice but to play his trump card again, saying, "If you don' want to see youself as headlines of the college BBS, go to buy breakfast for me. I only eat the sandwich of the restaurant across the road. You'd better not buy those junk foods from the entrance of the college."
Layla glared at Reed with rage when he took out 100 dollars that had been prepared before. He then said to Layla, "It should be enough. The rest is the tips for your errands."
"Humph!" Grabbing the banknote, Layla stormed out of the dancing room.
She soon arrived at the restaurant and bought a sandwich. On the way returning back, she sighed to herself, "It's sheer robbery! For such a sandwich, it should cost 88 dollars. How do ordinary people survive?"
"Layla, wait!"
Hearing the voice, Layla quickly frowned. It was Lily, her stepsister who was born of the same father but a different mother. Of all people, she had hoped not to run into her today.
"You're really splurging on an expensive sandwich." Lily would do her utmost to dig at Layla as long as there a chance to do so. She did not have any sisterly affection for Layla.
"What do you want?" asked Layla. Pausing for three seconds, she did not get Lily's reply, so she told her simply, "Then I have to go if you don't have anything else."
"Hold on!" Lily blocked Layla.
"What on earth do you want?" Layla asked without any patience.
"Layla, you've already married Trevor, so you're no longer some innocent. You are a married woman. Don't provoke other men in case Mr. Moore would dump you as soon as he knew it. Plus, he would wreak vengeance on you." Lily said so, for she really felt unhappy about the fact that Layla should be in the same class with Reed. The image of the two of them napping together at their desks still bothered her.
In addition, what annoyed her most was that Reed had taken her smartphone. She guessed that he did so most probably to protect Layla, the idiot.
"Layla, tell me, are you fooling around with Reed?" asked Lily. Hearing her vulgar remarks, Layla just wanted to ignore her and shook off her, who was trying to pick a quarrel.
However, Lily insisted on not letting Layla go. She obstructed in front of Layla and insisted on knowing what actually happened. While they were pushing, the 88-dollars sandwich, sold at an exorbitant price in Layla's view, fell on the ground.
Layla was about to pick it up when Lily forestalled her and stomped the sandwich into pieces.
"How is it? if you still want to take it, then just pick it up. But, I suppose, even a dog shall never eat such a sandwich." Lily laughed with smug satisfaction.
"You should pay for it!" Layla clenched her fists tightly. It cost 88 dollars, and Lily had ruined it so easily.
"You psycho!" Lily gazed at her impoverished her stepsister with a scornful look.
"Let me repeat it again. You should pay for it!" shouted Layla with great rage. Her shouts drew crowds of onlookers, who were talking about them.
Layla would settle all accounts with her recklessly if she was mad, but Lily liked to keep up appearances. Founding more and more onlookers, Lily did not want to continue the argument with Layla.
"I just accidentally ruined your sandwich. How can you be so mad? I'll compensate double for your loss." Lily said loudly, thus making the witnessing crowd clear that it turned out so petty of Layla to ask for compensation instead.
Finishing these words, Lily took three pieces of 100-dollars banknotes out of her brand handbag, saying, "I pay for the sandwich. It can afford a few sandwiches."
Grabbing the money, however, Layla slammed it on to the ground. Her anger didn’t fade. "I'll repeat it again. I'm not asking for your money. I want a sandwich, and I want it delivered to me here. Or, I will not let you off."
Lily glared at Layla. Though she was afraid of Trevor, she would never compromise, for she’ been bullying Layla from childhood. Her bad temper could not be controlled even under Trevor's power.
"Layla, don't you have a careful look in the mirror? I have already paid the money back to you. You still want me to go to the second floor to buy a sandwich for you? You're really foolish enough to reject a face-saving offer. Like mother, like daughter."
Layla punched Lily immediately as soon as she finished these words.
"Ouch! It hurts... Oooh..." Lily wept noisily, covering her nose in her hands. How could she know Layla dared to really beat her with such force?
"Lily, I don't mind that you've insulted me, beaten me and bullied me. But you dare to speak ill of my mother. Then I will not let you off." Finishing these words, Layla went out of the restaurant, leaving Lily behind, who was crying and kneel down with her hands covering her nose.
Layla returned to the dancing room, finding Reed's big backpack remaining in place. But he was nowhere to be seen. So, Layla did not care about where the nasty guy went. Instead, she sat on the floorboard of the dancing room, continue her sulk.
"Piggy Layla, you are really stupid." Reed walked in slowly with a bag of food in his hand. He took a seat next to her.
Only when she saw Reed did Layla remember that she did not have any sandwich to him. For the 100 dollars he gave to her, there only left 12 dollars. Although she was stingy with money, she did not want to take advantage of him. Taking out her wallet, a Hello Kitty one that was bought by Trevor in the US, Layla simply took a 100-dollar bill.
"The sandwich was sold out." Layla handed the money to Reed.
"Piggy Layla, are you an idiot? Or, do you think other people are as stupid as you?" Reed said. He took the food he bought in the restaurant out of the plastic bag and put them in front of Layla.
Seeing all the food, Layla's hunger got the better of her.
"I went to the restaurant just now. You're really so stupid. How could you beat that unreasonable woman in front of so many students? If you really wanted to do that, you could beat her up a place where nobody was there. What's more, you punched her in her face, where everyone could see the bruise. In this way, even if you were justified, people will side with her."
Seeing Reed rattling on her, Layla could not help but burst into laughter. Her rage had been completely melt away.
"What are you laughing at?" asked Reed with doubts.
"Reed, do you usually fight with people? You're so experienced." Asked Layla while grinning at him. Staring at her smile, Reed could not help feeling at a loss.
"I'm asking you the question. Do you usually fight with other people?" continued Layla. Reed realized what she said to him. Then he scratched his head, saying, "Absolutely! I am not boasting, but I really have extraordinary talent. When I was in the middle-high school in the US, I was undefeated in the whole school."
"I think you are really boasting about that" Layla said showing him a skeptical look.
"Hey! Trust me, I got a black belt in taekwondo." Reed rattled on about his heroic deeds he did when he was in the US once he started talking.
Layla was very interested in his story. Of course, Layla also ate all the food that he bought before she realized it.
"Layla, that is my breakfast. Why did you take it?" Reed found all the food had disappeared after he talked for a while.
"What a lively scene! I didn't expect that there should be someone in the dancing room so early." Molly's voice came in.
Layla turned to the sound of her voice only to find Molly and Zion walked into the room.
"Senior Zion and Senior Molly, morning!" Layla stood up and greeted them warmly.
"Layla, you came to practice dancing so early, having your footman together with you." Molly poked fun at Layla, glancing at Reed with a playful grin.
But, at this moment, Reed felt unhappy. Quickly stood up, he was in a commanding position and spoke to Molly who was much shorter than him, "You're wrong. I am not her footman. Actually, she’s the one following me."
"Anyway, as far as I know, it is you who followed Layla to the dancing room when I met you for the first time. Today, it's the second time for me to find you here again together with Layla." Molly smiled.
"Humph!" Reed said with a cold face, turning to Layla and asking, "Piggy Layla, let’s be honest, who is the follower?"
Layla really hated Reed, for he dared to call her "Piggy Layla" in front of her senior schoolmates who she admired the most. "Who is the follower? What a boring question! This question is very boring! It's you!"
"You!" Reed pointed to Layla.
Reed and Layla quarreled with each other again. Molly then said to Zion with a smile, "Zion, you see, they are really a quarrelsome and loving couple, aren't they?"
"Yeah!" Zion gave a noncommittal while his eyes were fixed on Layla.
"Senior Zion, this is the dancing room of FLY Dance Club. Are strangers allowed to come in?" asked Layla all of a sudden.
Zion was caught off guard suddenly, and he did not expect that he should be involved in their dispute. "Junior Reed, if you are also interested in dancing, you're warmly welcomed."
"I'm not interested at all!" Reed said proudly, for what he hated most was that he was named as "junior".
"Yeah, you’ll be the outstanding sportsperson for basketball in the future!" Molly said. Reed looked at her and then he remembered he was humiliated in front of this woman yesterday. He did not want to say anything else and he left the dancing room carrying his backpack.
"Layla, your little boyfriend sure has a temper. It seems that he is still mad at me." Molly said with her arm in Layla's.
"Senior Molly, you misunderstood me. I have nothing to do with him! It's true!" Layla explained immediately. Molly pondered and smiled to her, saying, "Okay, nothing! I didn't say anything."
"By the way, Senior Zion, what did you contact me for yesterday?" Layla wanted to change the topic at this moment, for she did not want to be misunderstood.
Molly replied her before Zion had the time to say a word, "The president wanted to find a dancing partner. As I had no time, he called you then. But now, I am free again, so, Layla, you have to make the best use of your time if you want to have a dancing partner."
Layla looked at Zion and then she looked at Molly again, saying, "If Senior Zion is looking for a dancing partner, nobody will have the qualification to match him but you, Senior Molly. I am so clumsy that I can only do a solo dance. But I am very looking forward to the performance given by you two. I will cheer you up."
Layla offered her blessing. But in her heart, she supposed that she would be very lucky if she could dance with Senior Zion!
