Chapter 32 You are Handsome When You Don't Smile

After a few rounds of drinks, Heliam was feeling a bit tipsy, and everyone at the table was lost in their own thoughts. Suddenly, a slender figure dashed towards the front of the hall, kneeling abruptly, her forehead hitting the ground heavily against the floor of Harmonious Hall. The crowd steadied themselves.

“I am Amber, a maidservant in the palace of Lady Evelyn,” Amber trembled, her body shaking uncontrollably.

The onlookers shifted their gazes towards Evelyn. Noticing their scrutiny, Evelyn raised an eyebrow, a flicker of anger igniting in her eyes. In the candlelight of Harmonious Hall, her exquisite features took on a hint of ferocity.

“What do you mean by this?” Evelyn rose and stepped forward, her flowing purple gown billowing like a gust of wind. “Your Majesty,” she performed a curtsy, her long sleeves trailing on the ground like butterfly wings ready to take flight, adding an air of seduction from any angle.

Heliam furrowed his brow, his handsome features showing a flicker of confusion. “What does my beloved concubine mean by this?” he said slowly, his tone revealing no hint of emotion.

Evelyn shivered slightly, turning to Amber. “Aren’t you coming back to your place?”

Amber hesitated, trembling as if shaken by a sieve, yet she stubbornly refused to move. After bowing again, her forehead hit the ground once more. “Amber begs the Emperor to hear me out.”

Evelyn frowned, surprise and disbelief flashing in her eyes. “What is the meaning of this? Amber, have I spoiled you so much that you’ve lost all sense of decorum?”

Amber remained unfazed, knocking her forehead heavily on the ground again. “Please, Your Majesty, grant me a moment. Amber begs you.”

Heliam was disinterested, his temperament loathed disrespectful women. “Take her away,” he waved his sleeve, impatience flashing in his eyes, his lips pressed tightly together.

“Your Majesty! If you do not listen to Amber, Daisy will never rest in peace! This harem cannot find tranquility!”

Amber seemed to muster all her strength, the once polished yellow floor now marked with a few drops of blood, reminiscent of where Daisy had died.

Tanya furrowed her brow tighter, was this related to Daisy? She had a bad premonition. “What do you mean by the harem not finding peace? Speak up.”

Amber’s words captured Heliam’s attention, a hint of satisfaction curving his lips as he said softly, “I, Amber, was a sister to Daisy since childhood, we came to the palace together from Southland. After Daisy’s death, I could not sleep at night, often remembering her smile. In the half-month since her passing, rumors about Daisy have circulated in the palace.”

“Shut up!” Evelyn roared, visibly furious.

Amber, frightened, held her tongue.

“Let her speak!” Heliam’s voice was cold, the chill in his words lowering the atmosphere around them.

Evelyn could only relent.

Amber shivered, bowing again, “Thank you, Your Majesty.”

“I originally met Daisy in a dream, she wore black, her long hair cascading over her shoulders, a chilling demeanor, holding a dagger glimmering in the dark. She said she died a tragic death and had grievances.”

The hall fell silent, even the sound of wind could be heard, adding an eerie tension to the air.

Heliam furrowed his brows, his voice rough, “Ridiculous!”

To say such things in front of an emperor was nothing short of absurd. Amber trembled, her lips quivering. “At first, I thought it was just a dream, until a few days ago when someone in the palace claimed to have seen Daisy’s figure in the imperial garden.”

“I didn’t realize it was Daisy at first, only after hearing others’ descriptions did I realize she looked just like the one in my dream. My heart trembled, and in the following days, Daisy appeared in my dreams every night, saying she had blood grievances and wanted revenge.”

Heliam’s previous rage dissipated, and he calmed down, narrowing his eyes, the atmosphere still icy.

“Did she say why she died?”

Heliam asked this to uncover Amber's true intentions.

Amber stiffened, knocking her forehead on the ground again. “Your Majesty, forgive me… I dared not ask too much… Daisy only said her death was unjust…”

“Ridiculous!” Evelyn could no longer contain herself. “Do not slander here, Daisy harmed Sister Vivienne, and I helped relieve Sister’s troubles. What grievances could possibly exist?”

Evelyn’s words successfully cast suspicion back onto Tanya.

She frowned in defiance.

“What do you mean, sister?” Tanya’s voice was icy.

Evelyn’s form trembled slightly, mindful of Heliam above, and she lowered her head meekly, “Evelyn meant no harm.”

Who would believe that?

Tanya scoffed inwardly.

Heliam’s voice was heavy, akin to a beast emerging from a battleground, low and dangerous. “Are you suggesting I share responsibility?”

Evelyn shuddered, “Evelyn did not mean it that way…”

Amber seized the opportunity, bowing multiple times. “I hope Your Majesty will uphold justice for Daisy and clear her name.”

Amber's delicate voice echoed through every corner of the hall, and Heliam raised an eyebrow, seemingly pondering a solution. Evelyn also bowed down and knocked her head on the ground.

“Evelyn requests Your Majesty to restore her innocence, Evelyn is willing to accept an investigation.”

“Let the guard Alexander conduct a thorough investigation.” After a long pause, he finally made a decision.

Everyone was startled, their gazes shifting to the side where Alexander stood.

His silver armor shimmered coldly in the candlelight, and his eyes seemed to contain the stars and the vast ocean, embracing all forms of divinity.

He lowered his head, saying, “I will obey.”

Amber shrank back slightly and added, “This servant has heard that both Lady Evelyn and Lady Vivienne were present that day, will Guard Alexander thoroughly investigate both ladies?”

As Amber's words fell, a long silence ensued.

Heliam frowned, the candlelight casting a somber hue on his handsome features, one half of his face shrouded in shadow, his expression inscrutable.

He narrowed his eyes, seemingly disgusted by the matter, his gaze flicking over Tanya's face, and he sighed inwardly. Vivienne too!

Tanya’s eyes sharpened. This matter ultimately involved her.

She simply accepted the order without saying more.

Heliam's eyes carried a hint of displeasure. “You have three days. If the truth is not uncovered within three days, all those spreading these rumors will be executed.”

He waved his hand, standing up, prompting the concubines below to kneel.

“Dismissed.”

His voice was low and charming as he walked directly towards the silent Francois, placing a large hand on her slender waist. “Let’s go.”

Francois nodded slightly and followed closely behind.

As the surrounding concubines gradually dispersed, Eunuch Belmont returned a moment later, bowing slightly.

“By the Emperor's command, this matter will be thoroughly investigated by Lady Vivienne and Guard Alexander, with a timeframe of three days. If the truth is not revealed, they will be executed. Lady Evelyn is to be confined to the palace and is forbidden from receiving visitors, if there is no result in three days, she will also face execution. The maid Amber is to be temporarily imprisoned in the dungeons.”

After speaking, he bowed slightly to Tanya. “This servant will take his leave now.”

Tanya stared at his retreating figure, unable to suppress her frustration. What is this all about?!

【Fan】My goodness: The streamer sits at home, disaster comes from the sky.

【Fan】Nine Provinces City: Is the current task... a game over if not accomplished?!

【Visitor】A dragon in the waves: Hehe...

Tanya's eyes brimmed with tears. All she did was refuse someone’s bouquet and come to a meal, yet she was inexplicably tasked with a death sentence mission.

What’s worse! Although the rules of the livestream stated that it wouldn't end without overcoming the challenge, if she died due to the plot's development, she would be forcibly exited from the livestream, and the level would restart!

No way!

Tanya looked at the scene before her, a strange pain gripping her heart. Verdant's voice lowered behind her, “They are truly unreasonable, this matter has nothing to do with the lady…”

Tanya's gaze darkened, and she ultimately chose not to say more. “You should return for now. Over the next few days, you will manage Fragrance Hall.”

Verdant bit her lip, staring intently at Tanya’s beautiful profile, finally letting out a sigh. “This servant is clumsy and cannot help the lady.”

She suddenly turned to Alexander. “Guard Alexander, you have always been resourceful, you must help the lady find the true culprit. Verdant thanks you here.” With that, she bowed low.

Alexander waved his hand dismissively, his eyes shadowed. “It’s inevitable that I will save her.”

As Tanya listened to his voice, her gaze gradually shifted to his handsome face.

His silver armor reflected dazzling light in the candlelight, and such a man, like a celestial prince, was easy to lose oneself in without realizing.

“I will manage Fragrance Hall properly, you must remember to return, my lady.” Verdant's eyes were teary, and she spoke softly before bursting into tears.

Tanya smiled and reassured her, “Fragrance Hall is my residence, how could I not return?”

She only smiled, a fleeting moment of brilliance.

After Verdant left, Evelyn rose, her gaze disdainful, a hint of mockery hanging on her lips.

“Evelyn also prays for my sister to find the true culprit.”

Tanya’s smile widened. “That’s only natural, I must send the one who harmed her to the underworld.”

Evelyn’s expression stiffened.

“At death’s door, Sister Vivienne is still sharp-tongued. Evelyn admires that.”

Tanya replied nonchalantly, “Whether I live or die is still uncertain, but I know that Sister Evelyn is doomed.”

Evelyn’s smile did not falter as she bowed and retreated.

Alexander stepped forward, his gaze locked tightly on Tanya.

She raised her chin, her eyes sparkling with pride. “So, what do you think? Wasn’t my comeback just dazzling?”

Alexander sighed softly, “What a fool.”

Tanya's expression froze, and a gentle breeze stirred, tousling Alexander's hair. Despite the disarray, Tanya could still see the glimmering smile beneath.

“Alexander, has anyone ever told you that when you’re not smiling, your foolishness carries a hint of handsomeness?”

Alexander’s expression darkened.

Danger flickered in his eyes, his thin lips pressed tightly together.
