Chapter 16 What Happened?

Evelyn thought she was hallucinating from the influence of alcohol. She shook her head vigorously. Then, she stared at Theodore.

"Hello, Mr. Kingsley." Claire, who was an employee of the SkyForge Group, hurried over to greet Theodore.

Theodore carefully helped Evelyn to her feet and nodded slightly at Claire as he explained, "Something happened at the company, that's why I couldn't make it in time to your wedding with Evelyn. My apologies."

Before Claire—who was in shock—could reply, he turned back to Evelyn and scolded her softly, "You know I'll get worried if you deliberately drank liquor as if you're drinking water. You always do as you like."

It sounded like a scolding but underneath it was sympathy and care.

The crowd turned wild again. The gaze they cast on Evelyn had turned into envy and jealousy.

"Evelyn? You guys..." Dana's voice was filled with surprise.

"We..."

Evelyn looked past her mother and met Martin's inquiring gaze. She panicked and wanted to shake her head, but Theodore pulled her head into his embrace. Then, he greeted Dana and Bruce politely. "Uncle, Auntie, I was planning to pay both of you a visit within the next two days. When would it be convenient for you?"

"Oh, we're free anytime," Dana smiled as she replied.

"That's great." Theodore paused and looked at Evelyn. There was a change in his tone. "Evelyn had too much to drink. I will take her home first."

"Okay, sure, please take good care of Evelyn."

"Sure," Theodore said and carefully helped Evelyn out of the wedding hall.

Although Evelyn understood that he was saving her face, she didn't think that someone like him who always had something under his sleeves would not help her in vain. So, she wanted to break away from him.

However, Theodore didn't loosen his grip on her. With a smile on his face, he leaned toward her and whispered, "Do you want to ruin your parent's reputation?"

"I..." Evelyn was momentarily speechless before giving in. She shakily followed after him.

She knew very well how her mother regarded their family's reputation. She also knew very well the negative consequences of making her mother angry.

If she knew beforehand that she wouldn't be able to control her feelings, she wouldn't have come to this wedding dinner.

All she wanted was to give him her blessings!

What had she done wrong?

Theodore frowned at the sight of Evelyn's tears. He suddenly stopped on his heels and carried her in his arms, bridal-styled.

Evelyn was shocked. "Hey!"

"How dare you weep for the groom? Aren't you worried about making a joke out of yourself?"

Evelyn was speechless, so she stayed silent and buried her face in his embrace, letting him hug her all the way to his car. There, she sobered up and quickly reached for the door handle.

"We have been acting all this while. Wouldn't it be for nothing if we blew our act now?" Theodore pressed her hand and ordered the driver to drive away.

Evelyn quietly withdrew her hand. She covered her face with her hands and sobbed.

"Isn't he just a courier? Is he really worth you being like this?" Theodore didn't comfort her, but only eyed her.

Hearing the disdain in his voice, Evelyn was very angry and she tried to defend Martin. "Brother Martin was indeed a courier when he first came to Arlington. However, he's now the owner of the delivery company and he owns many factories. He..."

"Ha! Ha! Ha! Brother Martin? What an affectionate name." Theodore cut her off and chuckled. "No wonder you made such a big fool out of yourself."

"What has it got to do with you?" Evelyn was furious. When she saw the car enter the highway, she immediately banged on the door and shouted, "Stop the car! I want to get out!"

She didn't want to spend another moment with him.

The driver, Mark MacLeod, instinctively slammed on the brakes. The next second, Theodore ordered loudly, "Didn't I say to go to Prosperous Manor?"

Mark hurriedly continued the drive.

"I'm not in the mood to see your grandfather! I want to get out!"

"So eager to throw me aside after using me?"

"I didn't ask for your help!" Evelyn tried to force the door open.

Theodore looked at her state and quickly circled her in his arms, ordering sharply, "You must go. You owe me this."

"Can't I choose not to go today? Let me go! Let me go, you bastard!"

Theodore completely ignored her cries. His grandfather had been making a fuss the whole day. He must bring her to see his grandfather no matter what.

Knowing that she couldn't escape his grip, Evelyn felt sad and grieved. Moreover, her stomach was churning. She simply buried herself in his arms and wept.

She didn't want to care anymore. She wanted to cry all she could in memory of her lost love.

Theodore frowned again at the weeping woman in his arms. After a moment of thought, he whipped out his phone and sent a message. Then, he ordered Mark, "Stop the car."

"Yes, sir." Mark didn't dare to question him and quickly parked the car by the side of the road.

Theodore loosened his grip and pushed Evelyn away with disgust. "Get down."

After seeing Evelyn get out of the car, he motioned for Mark to continue driving. He took off his jacket that was drenched with Evelyn's tears and snot. Then, he threw the jacket aside.

"Turn the car around."

"What?" Mark slammed on the brakes and asked with a hesitant tone. "Boss, you are going in the wrong direction."

"Turn the car around!"

"Yes, sir." Mark peeked at his boss through the rear-view mirror and understood his instructions. He quickly turned the car around and drove in the opposite direction, stopping the car at the spot where he let Evelyn get off.

At this moment, Evelyn was crouching and vomiting in the lawn.

"You are really polluting the good environment of Arlington," Theodore said as he handed her a wet wipe.

Evelyn ignored his words. She took the wet wipe to wipe her face. Then, she covered her face and cried again.

"Why aren't you out of tears yet after crying for so long? Women are indeed made of water."

Evelyn complained as she sobbed, "Do you know that you are really annoying? I'm very sad now. I need some comfort!"

"Isn't he just a courier? Alright, just for the sake of grandfather, I'll comfort you for a while." Theodore squatted down and took her into his arms. Then, she continued to cry in his arms.

Evelyn didn't know how long she cried. All she knew was that she cried so hard that her eyes ached when she tried to open them. But when she did open her eyes, she was instantly shocked at the sight before her—she and that wily old fox were sleeping on a bed next to a messy pile of clothes!

In fact, someone had changed her clothes!

"Theodore, you..."

"The staff changed you. I have no interest in a messy and sloppy woman." Theodore could read her thoughts. He stretched his arms lazily and cut her off.

It was so tiring for him to hug a woman to sleep.

He wasn't the one who changed her clothes? What had just happened?

Why couldn't she remember anything?

Distressed, Evelyn slapped her head hard, hoping to refresh her memory.

However, all she could recall was that she had mistakenly drank liquor and was taken away by Theodore from Martin's wedding. She did not remember arriving at the hotel.

"You are already stupid enough. If you slap any harder, you're going to be retarded. Look at my clothes, how disgusting!" Noting that she was sober, Theodore pointed at his shirt and complained.

Evelyn had vague memories of her vomiting. At the sight of the 'evidence', she took another look at herself and found that there were no traces of going to bed with him. Only then did she laugh guiltily and say, "Shall I help you wash it?"

She knew that his clothes weren't cheap and was worried that he would want to seize this opportunity to take advantage of him. She felt that he was that kind of person anyway.

"Not just the shirt. Look at my coat." Theodore took off his coat and threw it at her.

"Oh! Well, I'll bring them all back home with me to wash." Evelyn quickly looked for a laundry bag and carefully placed the clothes inside. Since he was half naked, she didn't dare look at him, and quickly left the scene.

Before Evelyn could leave, Mark—who had been guarding the door—came into the room and informed Theodore softly, "Boss, Senior Master is awake. He is now clear-headed."

"Is he alright?" Theodore's hand hung stiffly mid-air.

Knowing that Theodore was referring to the sedatives injected into Senior Master, Mark shook his head and said, "Connor McCarthy said everything was fine, but..."

Noticing that he stopped mid-sentence, Theodore kept quiet and glanced at him nonchalantly.

"The Master's family was here."

"How dare they come here?!" Theodore's expression changed and the next second, he barged out of the room.
