Dana grabbed Evelyn's arm and scolded, "Stop pretending and tell me honestly. Don't you dare tell another lie, otherwise I will immediately drown you in the toilet!"
"Don't do that. You're scaring your daughter. Talk nicely." Bruce 'rescued' his daughter from his wife's grip. Then, he pointed at the screen of the phone and asked, "Evelyn, are the contents here true?"
Aware that she could no longer hide, Evelyn nodded and quickly explained, "We did stay in the hotel, but our relationship is not as complicated as what the news is suggesting. Nothing happened between us. It's true!"
"You are both single and stayed in the same room for so long. You were even drunk. When you came out of the hotel, your clothes had even been changed. Nothing happened, you said? Unless you prove to me that Young Master Kingsley isn't a real man, I will never believe that nothing happened." Dana looked at her as if she could already see through Evelyn's façade.
Evelyn blushed and figured that there was no way to convince her mother to believe her.
When she came back before this, her parents had questioned her. She explained that Theodore and her were only friends. The reason he helped her was to save her from embarrassment. Her mother didn't believe her then, and now with the 'proof' laying bare in front of her, her explanations were even more unbelievable.
Sure enough, it was so easy to cause a scandal with someone that had status. She should really keep that in mind!
When Evelyn remained silent, Bruce and Dana exchanged glances. Bruce coaxed her with a gentle tone, "Evelyn, you are an adult. It's normal to be in a relationship, so there's no need to hide from your parents. Aren't we always eager for you to go on a blind date and find a boyfriend? However, you must bring your boyfriend home so that we can get to know him. After all, this is about your lifetime of happiness."
"Yes!" continued Dana. "You shouldn't hide from us, especially someone like Young Master Kingsley who has high status. You have everything to lose if you do. Give me his number. I'll call him and find out his intentions."
Bruce agreed and said, "Everything is on the news now. He should answer to us even if he doesn't marry our daughter!"
"Dad! Mom! You're really overthinking it! There's nothing going on between us! Hey, Mom, what are you doing?"
Dana snatched her daughter's phone and ignored her cries as she scrolled through the contacts.
"Mom, please don't do this. Listen to me, we're..."
"Fox Kingsley? Is this it? You have only one friend whose family name is Kingsley."
Bruce craned his neck and looked over, smiling. "Fox Kingsley? Gee, what a nickname! Sounds so intimate and yet you say there's nothing going on?"
Evelyn was speechless as she watched her mother dial the number. She gave in helplessly and said, "Mom, I'll call him myself. Let's not be too sudden."
"So you admit that the both of you are in a relationship?" Dana and Bruce's faces were filled with excitement.
Could she not admit it?
Evelyn grumbled to herself.
"You will believe it tomorrow." She took her phone and silently walked toward the bathroom.
"Go and make your call. I'll wash the shirt." Dana made it to the bathroom before Evelyn could.
Evelyn didn't resist. After all, things had escalated to this point, and she decided that it was no big deal even if her mother found out she was washing Theodore's clothes.
She walked into her room and locked the door. Then, she clicked on a web page to browse the news. Other than the news of her staying in the hotel with Theodore, she even saw photos of them being intimate at the wedding and the roadside.
"Had the paparazzi been following him all along? Wasn't that a little too diligent?" She thought.
Evelyn was furious.
As she scrolled down, her eyes bulged. It was a detailed profile of herself!
Looked like she was already famous. No wonder her parents insisted on calling Theodore.
She had run out of tears.
Now, only Fox Kingsley could properly settle this matter.
She dialed Theodore's phone in distress.
"Little Evade?"
"Yes."
"Miss me?"
"How are you still in the mood to joke? Didn't you watch the news? We're all over the headlines!" Evelyn was very upset.
"Yes, we made the headlines. Well! You dragged me into this."
"I dragged you into this? You dragged me into this!"
"If I hadn't stopped you from embarrassing yourself and chosen to leave you drunk on the streets, I wouldn't have been in the headlines at all. Now that you have ruined my reputation, how are you going to compensate me?"
"You! I..." Evelyn was speechless.
She was the victim here!
Fine. She should forget about it and not argue at a time like this. Most importantly, they should find a way to mitigate the scandal.
Thinking of this, she spoke in a humble tone and apologized unwillingly, "Mr. Kingsley, I'm truly sorry for bringing this inconvenience upon you. In order to protect your reputation, you should think of a way to mitigate the scandal between us. As for compensation, shall we talk about it later?"
Only if the scandal was temporarily mitigated, would she be able to make up excuses for her parents.
"Let's talk about compensation first. Otherwise, I won't have the heart to deal with other matters."
"How do you want me to compensate you?"
"Well, I haven't really thought about it yet. I'll tell you tomorrow after I think about it. Okay, I'm tired, we'll talk tomorrow."
"But now... Hello?" The line had ended on the other side. Evelyn was so angry that she scolded loudly, "Asshole! That stinky wicked fox!"
Evelyn lay on her bed and all kinds of worries filled her heart. It was doomed to be another sleepless night.
In order to avoid her parents' questioning, she quietly left the house before they woke up.
As soon as she left her neighborhood, she called Theodore. However, he did not pick up. Assuming that he was asleep, there was nothing that she could do, and so she decided to go to work.
Because of last night's scandal, she moved like a thief, scurrying in shadows all the way from her neighborhood to her work place. Fortunately, no one paid any attention to her. Moreover, she didn't know anyone from her work place. She ran quickly into her office.
As it was still early, she was alone in the office. She felt sleepy and lay her head on the table for a short nap.
"Evelyn? Evelyn? Your phone is ringing."
Grace's voice sounded, and Evelyn instantly awakened and sat up. She looked down and saw that her mother was calling. Then, she greeted Grace in a hurry and turned slightly sideways to pick up the call.
"Evelyn, come back home quickly! Hurry up!"
"What is it?" She thought her mother had questions about Theodore.
"It is very urgent! I can't tell you over the phone, so hurry back! Or else someone might get killed!"
"What?!" Evelyn was so terrified that she hurried home before she could even request the day off from Grace.
