"What-What debt?" Dana and Bruce looked at their daughter in fear.
Evelyn mumbled as she explained, "I scratched his car and owed him 100,000 for repair."
"100,000, is it?" Bruce heaved a long sigh and said with a smile. "Young Master Kingsley, give me your bank account number. I'll transfer the money to you immediately."
"I don't need the money, may it be 100,000 or it's 20,000,000." Theodore paused and looked at Dana and Bruce, who had changed the looks on their faces. Then, he pointed at Evelyn and continued, "I need only her."
Dana' eyes instantly filled with fear and she quickly took an envelope from her bag and handed it to him. She begged, "Please take mercy on her and let my daughter go. I'll pay you back with this 20,000,000."
"20,000,000 dollars?" Evelyn's eyes bulged. "Mom, where did you get that money from?"
Bruce was ashamed. He said, "Aren't we leaving Arlington? This is what Senior Master Kingsley paid us as compensation."
"How can you take his money? He has..." Evelyn didn't dare continue.
Theodore threw the envelope back to Dana. "I told you that I don't need money. I want only her."
Dana cried, "Young Master Kingsley, please have mercy and let my daughter go. You have your status, your power, your money, and your looks, but why do you want to make the life of an innocent girl miserable?"
"You don't agree?" Theodore raised an eyebrow. "My grandfather is often delirious and not in the right state of mind. Although he wrote you a 20,000,000 cheque, I can still sue you all for fraud."
Dana's feet trembled and she crumpled onto the ground.
"Mom!" Evelyn quickly went forward to help her up.
Bruce's face paled and he struggled to help his wife. He explained in a panic, "Young Master Kingsley, I think you've misunderstood. We didn't cheat. Senior Master Kingsley's mind was very clear when he gave us the cheque. It's true!"
Theodore sneered. "It's up to me to decide if you've committed fraud or not. This 20,000,000 is enough for the both of you to be sentenced to jail for the rest of your lives."
"Y-You're trying to frame my parents?" Evelyn was trembling all over.
She knew he had influence in Arlington. He really meant what he said.
"I have all the evidence, and yet you accuse me of framing your parents? You are committing a crime by making those accusations, and you too will have to face the consequences of the law." Looking at the family of three with their pale faces, Theodore sighed. He then slowly said, "I have no intention of pushing you three to the edge of a cliff. My intention is very simple. Evelyn, you know that it is."
Dana quickly pushed Evelyn behind her and shouted at him, "I will never exchange my daughter's body for my own safety, even if it meant that I will lose my own life!"
"Her body?" Theodore took a look at Evelyn from her head to toes, as if he were not interested.
Evelyn knew that her parents had misunderstood Theodore. She ignored him and told her parents everything in a soft whisper, from how Ethan had brain atrophy and mistook her as his dead daughter, to the twenty-five meetups that she promised Theodore.
When Dana understood everything, she still shook her head madly. "Senior Master Kingsley will only treat you as his daughter when he's confused, but he wouldn't when he's not confused. If he finds out that we haven't left Arlington yet, he will not spare us. We can't joke with our lives!"
"Yes." Bruce looked at Theodore with pleading eyes. "Young Master Kingsley, you and your grandfather have high status in Arlington. We cannot afford to go against either one of you. Please spare my family and let us go! We can't live by living in between the two of you."
Theodore said casually, "I can promise to keep your family safe, only if Evelyn promises me one thing."
"What is it?" Evelyn looked at him nervously. She was afraid that he would ask for something that was too much for her.
"Let's register and get married."
"What?" The Morgan Family stared at him in disbelief, convinced that they had heard him wrong.
"It's only a fake marriage. After getting married, Evelyn will become my wife. The both of you will be my in-laws. Since we will be family, my grandfather won't threaten you anymore. Of course, if you're still worried about your safety, I will send someone to protect you 24/7."
Bruce was still worried and asked, "Didn't your grandfather arrange a marriage for you? Why do you still need to fake a marriage with Evelyn?"
Theodore paused and said with a straight face, "My grandfather thinks of Evelyn as my dead aunt. When he's sick, only Evelyn can calm him down. His condition can only be treated when he is calm, and that's why Evelyn cannot leave Arlington in the near future."
Bruce quickly asked, "How long is Senior Master Kingsley's treatment?"
Looking at the couple's worried faces, Theodore said, "The shortest time is a month, whereas the longest might be half a year. Once he recovers, Evelyn and I will get a divorce. I will not mistreat you."
"Will you keep your word?"
"Of course."
"Alright then." The couple turned to look at their daughter. "If it's about saving a person's life then it's a blessing."
Evelyn understood what her parents meant and she nodded. In fact, there was no better way for them to get out of this sticky situation.
Since they were no longer arguing, Theodore said, "Grandpa fell ill again. We must go back immediately."
"Hold on, here is Evelyn's Proof of Residence." Dana handed over Evelyn's birth certification.
Theodore took it, passed it to Emerson and ordered, "Send them home and take Evelyn's luggage with us."
"Yes."
Theodore pulled Evelyn with him and was about to walk away, when he saw that Dana was still clutching the envelope with the cheque in it. He then said, "Consider the 20,000,000 as her dowry."
After that, he pulled Evelyn with him and walked away quickly, not noticing the strange smile in the couple's eyes.
By the time they reached the Kingsley manor Ethan was having a fit. Not only did he smash everything that he had gotten his hands on, he flipped the tables and chairs all over as well. Evelyn was still terrified from her morning's 'escape', but this felt like she was going for war. Her heart trembled and turned cold as she stood timidly by the door.
"Little missy, where have you been these past two days? You don't want me anymore?" Ethan saw Evelyn and ran toward her with teary eyes.
Evelyn shook her head and squeezed out a smile. Since yesterday, too many things had suddenly happened to her and she hadn't had time to process them yet. So, she really couldn't smile. However, she didn't want grandpa to sense that something was wrong, so she didn't dare look at him and gazed at the messy living room instead.
"I didn't smash that!" Ethan smiled, looking like a child in fear of being scolded. He pointed at the maids who were cleaning up the mess and blamed them instead. "They are the ones that did the smashing!"
When Evelyn saw Theodore mouth 'coax him to sleep' at her, she quickly said, "It's time for bed and rest now. You must go to bed and sleep."
"Okay." Ethan nodded obediently. Then, he grabbed her hand and said in a sad tone, "Little missy, will you run away while I'm asleep?"
"No. From today onward, I won't be going anywhere. I will stay home and accompany you."
"Really? That's great!" Ethan was so happy that he clapped his hands and went to bed obediently.
After Ethan fell asleep, Theodore brought Evelyn to the Department of Civil Affairs to register their marriage. It was already 2 o'clock in the afternoon, so they had some simple lunch outside and headed home. When they reached home, Emerson had already moved Evelyn's luggage into Theodore's room.
Theodore left the house after dishing out some instructions. As soon as he left, Evelyn stood in front of her luggage in daze.
For the whole day, she felt like she wasn't in the right state. It felt more like a dream. However, the red book in her hand reminded her that all of these were true.
Within just one night, she had turned from Theodore's scandal girlfriend into his lawful wife. This was unbelievable!
At that moment, her phone rang, interrupting her thoughts. It was her mother and she quickly picked up.
"Evelyn, how are you?"
"Mom, I'm alright."
"Have you registered?"
"Yes."
"That's great, that's great. Okay, I have to clean up the house now. I'll call you later." Dana hung up the phone.
She could hear the cheerfulness in her mother's voice. She didn't think much about it, thinking that her mother was happy to escape a sticky situation. She sat down at the edge of a sofa and silently looked around the unfamiliar room that she will share with that 'Fox Kingsley'.
"Get out! Get out now!"
Evelyn was awakened by a wave of angry shouts. Before she could figure out what was going on, someone had pushed her to the ground.
"Grandfather is asking you to get out. Are you deaf?"
Evelyn tried to stand up and looked around. All she could see was Charlotte, who had her hands on her waist and was shouting at her arrogantly. Her mind couldn't cope with all that was going on.
Why was Charlotte at her home?
But when she saw Ethan, who was enraged, she remembered that she had moved into the Kingsley manor.
"Hold on, is Grandpa clear-headed now?" Evelyn thought.
She had seen Ethan angry before. But when she realized that Theodore wasn't with her, she panicked.
Clearly, she didn't panic for no reason, because Ethan had ordered someone to kick her out of the house.
