After she walked downstairs, the maid, Garcia, led Evelyn to the living room.
For now, Ethan wasn't in the living room. The only ones there were the family of Declan and Charlotte.
Evelyn had never seen Declan's family, so she didn't know them. However, since they were casually sitting in the living room of the Kingsley manor on top of being close to Charlotte, she guessed that they must be close to the Kingsley family.
Yvonne cleared her throat, cast a sidelong glance, and asked, "You are the woman that Theo brought back home?"
Her attitude made Evelyn very uncomfortable, but she responded politely anyway, "Yes."
"You have registered your marriage with a certificate?"
"Yes."
Jasper, who was sitting alone on the small sofa, brightened at her words. He immediately straightened up and smiled at Evelyn.
Evelyn noticed him and returned a smile. But then, Jasper lowered his head like a wilted flower. She was a little shocked and glanced sideways, realizing Yvonne was giving Jasper a stern stare as a warning against her. She smiled disapprovingly and ignored Yvonne's interrogation. Yvonne was asking questions like, "How did you and Theo meet?".
However, Evelyn turned on her heels and walked away after answering her, "Go and ask my husband!"
"Hey! What's wrong with your attitude?" Charlotte stood up and quickly stopped her. Pointing at Yvonne, she asked Evelyn with a high and mighty tone, "Do you know who she is to Theo?"
"I don't want to know." Evelyn restrained herself from the urge to slap her and flung her hand away.
Charlotte didn't want to let her go. Instead, she proudly introduced, "This is your mother-in-law! That is your father-in-law! You don't even recognize your parents-in-law and yet you have the cheek to say that you're the young mistress of the Kingsley family?"
Parents-in-law?
Evelyn was shocked. She instinctively said, "His parents died a long time ago. How would I have parents-in-law?"
"What nonsense are you talking about?" Yvonne's expression turned sour, before turning an upset look at Declan.
"You! How dare you curse my aunt and uncle with an early death?! You are too vicious!" Charlotte quickly exclaimed in an exaggerated manner. Gloat filled her eyes.
Aunt and uncle?
Before Evelyn had the time to figure their relationship out, Declan was already yelling into her ears, "The Kingsley family does not have room for a vicious daughter-in-law like you! Leave the house immediately!"
"You ill-mannered brat! Get lost!" Charlotte quickly agreed.
"Dad, sister, don't kick sister-in-law out. You can't blame her. She doesn't know anything." Jasper stopped them timidly.
Yvonne pulled her son aside and scolded in a low tone, "What kind of sister-in-law is she? If you dare bring up the words 'sister-in-law', I'll tear your mouth down! Go and sit at one side!"
Jasper glanced helplessly at Evelyn. Then, he lowered his head, went to one side and dared not speak another word.
While she looked at Jasper and Yvonne, she remembered the things Theodore told her about his parents last night. Evelyn already guessed the identities of these three people and instantly had no good feelings toward them. Seeing that Declan was still yelling for her to get lost, she purposely straightened her back and responded coldly, "Theodore and I are a lawfully wedded couple. Since this is his home, therefore it is also mine, and nobody has the right to kick me out."
Of course, these were merely the words she spoke. In her heart, she thought, "Hurry up and kick me out! Quickly! Do it now!"
The fact that Ethan and Charlotte were already causing her headache—in addition to these two—made her feel like she was going to be skinned alive sooner or later.
Declan sneered. "Your home? You think too highly of yourself!"
"That's right." Charlotte also sneered. "Do you think that we don't know you are Theo's temporary woman meant only to fool Grandfather? Do you think that just because you've slept on Theo's bed, that you're really the mistress of the Kingsley family? You sounded so horny last night! Don't you know that Theo regards you as a hooker?"
Her explicit words made Jasper blush and quickly looked away. At the same time, Evelyn also blushed, but she couldn't find a good comeback at the time. So she could only say, "You aren't Theo, how do you know he's not sincere toward me?"
"If he's sincere toward you, he will definitely be gentle with you."Charlotte paused as she approached Evelyn. She lowered her tone and mocked, "You're limping while you walk. Isn't this the result of the merciless action last night? Well, in order to become the mistress of the Kingsley family, you've really put out. However, aren't you afraid that he'll play you till death in bed?"
Seeing that Charlotte was smiling so hard that her foundation was about to fall off her face, Evelyn felt extremely disgusted. After a moment of thought, she mimicked Charlotte's moves, leaned toward her, and whispered into her ears, "Theo isn't willing to play so hard with every woman. For example, you, Miss Dean. Haha, even if you apply more foundation, Theo will never give you the opportunity to sleep on his bed."
What she said was meant to disgust Charlotte. But to tell the truth, Evelyn was also disgusted. She didn't expect Charlotte—who looked quite educated—to say something so dirty. She was only letting her have a taste of her own medicine.
Sure enough, Charlotte looked like she had eaten a fly. Her face turned extremely sour and she angrily raised her hand to slap Evelyn.
Evelyn had already suffered from her once before. This time, she was well prepared. She grabbed Charlotte's arm in a flash, tightened her grip, and flung her onto the sofa.
Evelyn's physical fitness wasn't very good, but it was more than enough to deal with this heiress who was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. However, she still had a little regret that she didn't let Martin teach her more moves.
"Ouch! Auntie, it hurts!" Charlotte screamed exaggeratedly as she lay on the sofa.
"You're too brutal! Declan, if we let this woman become your daughter-in-law, where would Jasper's standing in this family be next time? Can we still live a good life?" Yvonne hugged her niece in distress as she spoke to Declan.
Declan was obviously annoyed as he ordered Daniel and Liam, "Why are you still standing there? Why haven't you kicked this woman out yet?"
Seeing that they hadn't moved an inch, he immediately turned around and scolded, "This is what Senior Master wants, so why haven't you got started yet?"
When Evelyn saw that they were really going to act, she wasn't afraid at all and did nothing too. She remained standing there, waiting for them to drag her out. However, before Daniel and Liam stepped forward, Ethan's angry voice bellowed behind her, "Are you all done?"
Charlotte was the first to rush toward Ethan. She folded up her sleeves and showed him her reddish arm. Then, she said in a pitiful voice, "Grandpa, she bullied me."
"What is going on?" Ethan looked at Evelyn with a serious and hard stare.
Ethan came from the study room on the first floor, and Evelyn knew he had witnessed what just happened. Seeing the way he rebuked her, she understood that they were all on the same side. Evelyn responded rudely, "It's exactly what you just saw."
Charlotte quickly hugged Ethan and said, "Hey, you were already rude to Uncle. How dare you disrespect Grandpa now?"
"Have anyone of you respected me?"
Ethan's face darkened and he yelled, "Do you really think that I have to worship that head of yours?"
"Yes! You're ridiculous!" Charlotte glanced proudly at Evelyn.
"I also don't know how Theo chooses his wife. It's like he deliberately finds someone to make Senior Master angry." Yvonne muttered in a tone of moderate volume, but her intention were obvious.
"Leave if you don't like it. No one asked you all to stay here." Evelyn snorted disapprovingly.
"Hey, don't be too arrogant!" Charlotte shouted angrily. "Don't think that because you have Theo to protect you, you can be so ill-mannered! They are Theo's elders! There's no place for you to act like the tyrant here!"
Evelyn talked back and mocked, "You are an outsider. You do not have the right to chat in front of me."
Her words had poked Charlotte's sore spot and she was immediately lost for words. Her aunt exchanged a glance with her. She quickly pouted and looked at Ethan.
Ethan gently patted her hand to appease her. Then, he looked at Yvonne and asked, "If the younger ones talk rudely to the elders, how should we punish them according to the house rules of the Kingsley family?"
Yvonne instantly responded with a thrill, "To punish lightly, one has to face the wall and think about their wrongdoings; to punish severely, one has to be slapped on the mouth."
"Then, why are you—as a mother-in-law—just standing there? Aren't you going to teach your daughter-in-law?"
"Yes, Senior Master." Yvonne rolled up her sleeves and stepped forward.
Evelyn was shocked at this. She turned around and wanted to run. Initially, her intention was to drive them crazy enough to kick her out, but she didn't expect to be beaten again. However, once she tried to move, Daniel and Liam both restrained her so that there was no way for her to move.
"Remember this!" Yvonne grinned evilly and raised her hand.
"Stop it!"
Yvonne didn't think that Theodore would suddenly appear at this moment. Although she had Ethan to support her, she panicked a bit and timidly explained, "She talked back to Grandpa and has broken the house rules of the Kingsley family."
"Go away!"
Ethan shouted, "Theo! How dare you speak to your mother like that?"
"My mother became a pile of white bones a long time ago!" Theodore pulled Evelyn toward himself.
Thinking that his son had said that he was long dead, Declan pushed his wife behind him and yelled at Theodore, "Theodore, you listen to me! It's a fact that I'm your father. It's also a fact that Yvonne is my wife. Whether you admit it or not, she is your stepmother and you should respect her."
"Kick them out."
"How dare you?"
Theodore sneered. "Have you forgotten whose house this is?"
Declan's imposing manner diminished and he glanced with resentment at his father.
Ever since Theodore became an adult, Ethan had given the ownership of this manor to him.
"Take Jasper back home."
After hearing his father's words, Declan was very annoyed. However, he had no choice but to take Yvonne and Jasper and leave.
Charlotte hesitated for a while and prepared to follow them, but was called out to by Ethan. "Charlotte, you stay here."
"Yes, Grandpa." Charlotte immediately turned around happily and lent her arm to support Ethan again.
"Evelyn, sit down. I have something to say to you."
Theodore ignored his grandpa's words and asked Evelyn gently, "Have you eaten your breakfast?"
Evelyn shook her head as she glanced at Ethan. She had no idea what he wanted to talk to her about.
"Let's go and have breakfast." Theodore pulled her toward the dining room.
"Theo! Stay there! Theo!" Ethan shouted.
Evelyn couldn't help but remind him in a low tone, "Your grandpa is calling you."
"I'm not deaf."
"Then you..."
"I cannot let you go hungry."
Theodore's words were very gentle, but that didn't sweep away the frustration in Evelyn's heart.
"You're very disappointed, aren't you?"
When she heard Theodore phrase it like this, Evelyn—who had just sat down—hurriedly responded, "Yeah, you didn't make it clear last night, so I thought your parents were really dead. Your family dynamics are quite complicated."
Of course, she had no interest in this.
"You know that this is not what I'm referring to."
Oops, did he see through me?
Evelyn played dumb and asked, "What are you talking about?"
Theodore leaned toward her and said in a cold tone, "You thought that if they kicked you out of the house, then you can cut all ties with me? Don't joke with the well-being of your parents' old age."
"I...I...I didn't think of this. It was them. They were too aggressive." Evelyn felt very guilty and depressed at the same time.
"If they come here again in the future, don't bother with them."
"Isn't it rude to ignore them? They are your biological father and stepmother after all."
"They don't deserve it." Theodore's face turned cold.
Evelyn was shocked by his facial expression and quickly asked, "I'll ignore them in the future, but what about your grandpa and Charlotte?"
"They..."
"Grandpa! Grandpa! What's the matter with you? Don't scare me!" Theodore's voice was drowned by Charlotte's panic cries.
