Chapter 29 There's No Excuse to Bully You

She had called him so intimately!

Theodore was very upset after hearing it. He looked at Evelyn who was standing at the corner and heard everything that she had said on the phone in a low tone.

"I'm fine. My phone shut off automatically as the battery was dead."

"Tonight? This... Um..."

"Oh, all right, see you then."

See you then?

Theodore leaned against the door frame and had his cold eyes locked on Evelyn.

Evelyn hung up the call and held the phone to her chest with both of her hands. The image of Martin's handsome, gentle face appeared before her. Joy couldn't help but fill her eyes.

She hadn't had a meal with him for a long time.

She remembered when she had just entered university, he was always worried that she couldn't cope with university life. So he went to the university to visit her all the time. He would have heart-to-heart talks and take her out to eat.

Because of his outstanding appearance and extraordinary temperament, he was particularly eye-catching when he was on campus and had been favored by many pretty girls. She felt very anxious as pretty girls would try to get close to him.

However, after seeing him ignoring every single pretty girl that came close to him and only focusing his eyes on her, she was relieved and thought that their relationship could turn into something more. So, she received all the jealous and envious gazes without worries. When it was late at night, she would imagine how their relationship would develop in the future.

It was the happiest time in her life since overcoming her psychological trauma, but these days didn't last long.

Until today, she could vividly recall the day when Martin and Claire appeared in front of her with interlocked hands while they were laughing and talking. That was the first time she had experienced heartbreak. It was also the moment she knew that Martin had treated her as his own sister all along. All her fantasies toward love were nothing but a wishful thought.

Ever since Martin had introduced Claire to Evelyn, she had been extremely kind to her. There were countless times when she cared for Evelyn and had helped her out when she needed it. Evelyn couldn't help but feel guilty about her affection for Martin and decided to bury it deep inside her heart. Coincidentally, Martin had opened several branches of his company and was very busy with work. So, she deliberately used this as an excuse to reduce the number of times she met up with him.

However, the more she suppressed it, the more she yearned to see him. Every time his name popped up on her phone screen, her heartbeat quickened, and her face flushed. It was just like what Wendy said—there were butterflies in her stomach. Her joy had come from deep inside her, and she had no control over it, just like this time.

"I don't even know how Martin has been doing recently, he..." Before she could ponder this thought further, the smile on her face froze because she was greeted by an upset look on Theodore's cold face when she turned around.

"W-Why are you here?" Somehow, she felt a little guilty.

"Done arranging the meet-up with him?" Theodore asked with his thin lips and a casual look on his face.

"Um... You..."

Since he had heard of it, she might as well tell him the truth.

Evelyn tentatively asked, "Can I go?"

"Sure."

"Really?" Evelyn couldn't believe he would agree so quickly.

"Of course, but remember to make it clear with him."

"Make what clear?"

Theodore glanced at her faintly. "Tell him that you are already the mistress of the Kingsley family, and you shouldn't have too much contact with other men."

"What? This... We will soon break off our marital relationship. There's no need to let too many people know about our relationship, isn't it?" After seeing his face turned sour, Evelyn quickly smiled obsequiously and said, "I'm afraid that this will affect you."

"It is you who haven't given up on that Hunt," Theodore pointed it out and mocked. "You're still thinking of shamelessly clinging to him?"

Evelyn instantly blushed and became annoyed. "What nonsense are you talking about? Martin and I are just normal friends. It's not as dirty as you think."

"If that's the case, clear it up with him. If you won't say it, I will go out with you tonight."

"There's no need. I will tell him."

As she shook her hand continuously, Theodore couldn't help but snort, "Don't let me hear any rumors. You won't be able to bear the consequences."

Hearing the threat in his words, Evelyn argued back weakly, "You're overthinking too much. We're just having a meal."

"Let's go."

"Where to?"

"To eat."

Evelyn looked at her watch and realized that it was already twelve o'clock. With an 'oh', she lowered her head and quietly followed him from behind.

After a few steps, her hands were suddenly held by someone. She instinctively withdrew her hand and was about to exclaim, but she caught a glance of Charlotte standing by the end of the stairs and quickly stuffed her hand back into Theodore's hand.

In a blink of an eye, both of their hands were interlocked. She trembled slightly from the warmth between his fingers. When the scene where Martin and Claire appearing in front of her for the first time flashed through her mind, she couldn't help but sigh.

It must be a very blissful thing to interlock your fingers with the man you love. Unfortunately, the man standing in front of her wasn't her true love.

"Be careful of the stairs."

When Theodore's gentle reminder sounded in her ears, Evelyn quickly pushed her thoughts away.

"Feeling upset?"

"What?" She didn't know what he meant and looked at him, surprised.

"Do you feel upset that you have to tell Martin you're my wife?"

"Ah, n-no."

"You should feel proud of it."

"What?" Evelyn was thinking about Martin. That was why she was confused by Theodore's irrelevant words.

"So many women would cry and make a fuss about wanting to marry me, but I chose you."

"Tsk, you can marry whomever you want. If I had a choice, I wouldn't even want to register the marriage with you." Of course, these were Evelyn's unspoken words as she wasn't in the mood to argue with him.

Thinking of Charlotte nearby, she immediately turned around and looked behind her.Charlotte was no longer behind them, so she let out a sigh of relief. Although she was reluctant to become the mistress of the Kingsley family, it was still her duty to put up a good show.

When both of them entered the dining room, the servants had already prepared their tableware for them. Noticing that they were inside the dining room, Garcia quickly pulled out the chair for Evelyn to sit down and helped her wear her napkin.

"I can do it myself. Thank you." Evelyn wasn't used to being served. She quickly put on her own napkin while glancing at Theodore who was sitting beside her. When she saw he was sitting comfortably while being served, she couldn't help but exclaim in her heart at the 'doings' of the rich.

Soon, Charlotte also entered the dining room.

She only dared to yell at Evelyn because she was protected by Ethan. Now that Ethan had fallen ill and hadn't woken up yet (as napping would restore his state of mind every time he fell ill), she had no one to rely on. She instantly became well-behaved and smiled at both of them with a pleasing look. After seeing them ignore her, she felt put out and sat opposite them, embarrassed.

Their lunch was a steak course. Although the steak was tender, the bread was sweet-smelling, and the soup was delicious. However, Evelyn, who always ate fast food, wasn't very used to it, but she didn't want to be rude. So, she tried to take her knife and slice the beef. No matter how hard she tried, the beef still remained untouched and made her a little embarrassed.

"The knife is too blunt. Try this one." With that, Theodore handed her another knife.

"Oh, thank—" Before she could finish speaking, Evelyn was stunned.

Hey! Wasn't this the scalpel that she put under her pillow?

He wanted her to cut the beef steak with the scalpel?

After exchanging gazes with him, she instantly understood what he had meant and took it with pleasure. While she cut the steak, she praised, "This is indeed a good knife."

Charlotte was also struggling to cut her steak with a blunt knife. Hearing Evelyn's words, she couldn't help but look at the knife in her hand. Although the knife was small, it was sharp enough to cut the steak. She immediately turned her head to Garcia, who was standing in the corner, and ordered, "Auntie Garcia, change my knife for me too."

Looking at how she was staring intently at the knife in Evelyn's hand, Garcia was a little awkward. "Miss Dean, there isn't such a knife in the kitchen like the one the mistress is using."

"Then she..."

"I'm using a scalpel," Evelyn responded just in time.

"A scalpel?"

Seeing the questioning look in Charlotte's eyes, Evelyn smiled and waved her scalpel around. "Yes, this is a knife specially used on corpses in an autopsy."

Theodore interjected, "What corpses?"

"It means dead people. This knife is sharp indeed. Regardless the age or sex, with just a gentle cut, you can cut out the organs of a person. So, cutting the steak is a piece of cake," Evelyn said while she drew the scalpel to her chest and made a cut in the air as if she was a corpse and was dissecting herself.

"You're saying that you have used this knife to dissect dead people?" Charlotte, who was sitting opposite her, instantly changed her complexion.

"Not only have I used it on dead people, but I've also used it on dead cats and dead dogs. I even used it to dissect a dead mouse the day before yesterday. This knife is really good to use. Say, Miss Dean, isn't your knife blunt? Why don't you use it to cut your steak first? Cutting the steak is so much easier than dissecting the dead," Evelyn said and handed the scalpel to her.

The scalpel was stained with bright red ketchup similar to the color of human blood and extremely uncomfortable to look at.

Charlotte's face turned pale as if she had seen a ghost. She screamed and immediately pushed away her chair. Covering her mouth, she rushed toward the bathroom. Soon, there came the sound of her vomiting everything out.

As Theodore frowned, Evelyn pretended to look innocent and shrugged her shoulders. "It was you who handed me my scalpel, so you can't blame me if you feel disgusted. If you want to vomit, go then. Don't try to hold it back."

Theodore glanced at her, placed his plate of steak in front of her, and said softly, "I'm too lazy to cut. You help me cut it."

His words made Evelyn feel surprised. She waved the scalpel in his face and asked, "This is the knife I use for dissecting bodies. Aren't you disgusted by it?"

"Think of it as using it for the first time. Just cut it."

She didn't expect him to see through her.

Evelyn smiled dryly.

This was a special set of scalpels because Martin had given it to her as a gift when she first entered the university. She was always unwilling to use it because she wanted to keep it as a souvenir. Since she was worried that Theodore would do something out of line, she had taken one out for self-defense. She didn't expect her treasured scalpel could be used for self-defense and to give people a hard time. Her mood lifted at the thought of this.

She suddenly realized something while cutting the steak and asked, "By the way, Charlotte's and my knife are very blunt. Have you arranged this on purpose?"

"What do you think?"

Evelyn pouted her lips. "You did this because you didn't want to eat on the same table with her, not because you wanted to help me teach her a lesson."

"You're so smart. This is your reward." Theodore picked up a piece of beef with his fork and brought it to her face.

Evelyn showed a look of disgust and wanted to refuse, but when she saw that he was giving her the look, she immediately turned and looked over. She saw Charlotte's figure appearing in the living room. Then, she immediately shouted loudly at Charlotte, "Miss Dean, I disinfect my scalpel every time after I've dissected a body. You wouldn't smell a trace of blood on it. You can rest assured. Come, I will help you cut your steak."

Charlotte felt another wave of nausea washed over her. She turned around and rushed to the bathroom again.

Evelyn pretended to laugh out loud and avoided the beef that was given by Theodore, but Theodore wasn't angry. As he was about to put the beef into his mouth, the phone rang. He immediately picked it up when he saw it was a call from Zion.

"What? Okay, I'll go to the company at once."
