"What's the good news?" Evelyn was awakened from her sleep. "Would it be that the murderer of Elaine got captured?"
Wendy replied, "That's not it. It's Aston. He got into a car accident last night and broke one leg. I heard that he will become a handicap for the rest of his life. Haha, let's see how he's going to act after that accident of his."
"Who's Aston?"
"That savage son of Elaine. Didn't I tell you about him yesterday. Haha, I told you so, karma's a bitch. You will reap what you sow sooner or later. Now it's getting back on them one by one." Wendy was clapping her hands over the phone.
Evelyn responded and remembered the death of Elaine. She asked immediately, "Is this really an accident or..."
"I didn't ask much about this. I don't care why he got involved in the car accident, I only care whether he's involved in the car accident for real."
"Who told you he met with a car accident?"
"My mum."
"How did your mum get the news?"
"The news spread throughout my entire neighborhood. Everyone is busy gossiping about it now. My mum had just told me about this. I was so happy that I immediately called you." Feeling that Evelyn wasn't that excited, Wendy felt a little disappointed. She said with a little self-deprecating tone, "Well, I thought you would be as happy as me."
Evelyn didn't explain and asked her back, "Wendy, can you go around your neighborhood to find out the place and the reason for Aston's car accident?"
Wendy responded, "You think his car accident and his mother's death are connected?"
Evelyn answered slowly, "I don't know, that's why I want to find out more."
"Sure, I'll ask my mum to go around the neighborhood and ask about it immediately. I'll call you once I get the news."
"Okay."
Evelyn hung up and saw it was only a quarter past six. The sleepiness had evaporated, so she decided to get up from bed. She casually glanced at the side of the bed, and found out that there wasn't anyone. Then, she immediately looked around, but she couldn't find any trace of Theodore.
She couldn't help but feel puzzled, as she knew Theodore wasn't an early riser, but she couldn't care about him. She went downstairs to brush her teeth and change her clothes.
After going downstairs, she realized that none of the servants had been seen and felt something was off. While she was getting suspicious, Charlotte's voice came from the dining room, "Grandpa, let me hold this for you."
"This is ridiculous." Ethan's tone was clearly laced with dissatisfaction.
After hearing their conversation, Evelyn regretted coming downstairs this early. She would usually wait until it was past seven o'clock to come downstairs, just so she could miss breakfast time with the both of them. As she wanted to turn around and go back upstairs, Charlotte's voice rang again.
"Grandpa, don't be angry. Don't you have me to take care of you? Oh, grandpa, do you think that woman has voodoo powers? Based on Theo's personality, he wouldn't fall so hard for an average woman like her. He has even let all the servants serve her even left one servant to tend to you at mealtime. He is also well aware that you dislike her, but he still insists on spoiling her. Grandpa, why do I feel like he's doing it to deliberately irritate you?"
She's causing trouble again! How many days was it since she stopped doing so?
Evelyn was a little unhappy as she paused her steps.
"Hmph. I'll see how much longer he can pretend."
"Grandpa, have you realized it? I think so too."Charlotte was obviously very happy. "It's not normal to not have a wedding after registering the marriage certificate. It's reasonable if Theo is using his mother as an excuse, but it doesn't make sense if they've gotten married without any wedding photos and a honeymoon. It's too fake."
"Let him be. He's already thirty-two years old. There isn't much time for him to lose. You have to be patient. Grandpa is here. The position of the Kingsley family's mistress will be yours sooner or later."
"Thank you, grandpa. Being patient is one of my biggest advantages. Grandpa, the egg is peeled; you can eat it slowly. Do you want another fried potato cake ?"
"Sure."
"The milk is also heated. Be careful as it's hot."
"You are still so nice and obedient. I didn't misjudge you. Alright, don't just look after this old man, sit down and help yourself too."
"I like looking after you."
"Good, very good."
The dining room was filled with Ethan's joyful laughter.
Evelyn was sullen and didn't bother to continue listening to their conversation. She didn't even go upstairs, but she went outside instead. She immediately understood what Charlotte meant when she mentioned that the servants in the entire manor were serving only her.
As soon as she went out, she saw all the servants were busy under the osmanthus tree.
"Why are you up? Don't you want to sleep longer?" Theodore, who was standing under another osmanthus tree and was chatting with Emerson, noticed her and immediately greeted her with a smile.
"Stop picking. Everyone stop picking." Evelyn ignored him and went forward to stop everyone.
Everyone looked at her. Then, all of them had their eyes on Theodore.
"What's wrong?" Theodore was also confused.
"There are droplets from the morning mist, so the osmanthus flowers that are picked won't last long if picked now. It would be best to pick them during the afternoon or the evening."
"Oh, pick them during the afternoon then." Theodore waved at everyone. Everyone took his signal, kept all of their tools and returned to their workplaces.
"How good is he at pretending! No wonder Charlotte is always jealous. This Theodore, doesn't he know about 'the more affectionate you show, the harder you fall'?" Evelyn didn't find it funny and thought.
"Have you ha your breakfast?" Theodore walked beside her and put his arm over her shoulders naturally while he asked softly.
"Not yet." Evelyn didn't push his hand away. She knew today was just the beginning of them showing their affection toward each other.
"Let's go eat." Theodore pulled her into the house toward the dining room.
Inside the dining room, Charlotte and Ethan hadn't finished eating yet.
Theodore pulled a seat for Evelyn. After she had sat down, he went and sat beside her.
At this moment, Garcia had already served their breakfasts.
Evelyn was aware that Charlotte's jealous gaze aimed at her from time to time. When she was about to eat her eggs, there was something else shone in Evelyn's eyes. She picked her egg yolk out from her plate and pushed it to Theodore, whispering softly, "Theo, I don't want to eat the yolk. Can you help me eat it?"
Yesterday, Evelyn had coincidentally heard Eric mentioned that Theodore didn't eat yolks, because he would easily choke on it.
At this moment, she felt a sense of triumph.
Today, Theodore was the one who started their big show of showing their affection. If he refused to cooperate with her, the consequences would be his to blame.
Of course, she was hoping that he would eat the yolk. For one thing, it could make Charlotte jealous; for another, she simply wanted to enjoy the look on Theodore's face when he was choking.
After Theodore staring at the yolk for two seconds, he finally picked up his fork to eat the yolk, Evelyn knew he was about to eat it. She immediately took the glass of milk in front of her and drank the whole glass.
She had everything figured out in her mind. When Theodore choked, she would pretend to care for him and give him a glass of milk. She would then grab the opportunity to spill the milk, so that Theodore would suffer longer on his choke while waiting for Garcia to bring him some water.
However, she was soon disappointed. Because the egg yolk was eaten and Theodore hadn't choked.
"Why aren't you eating? Don't they suit your appetite? I've forgotten that you like to eat consomme with macaroni in the morning." Theodore then ordered Garcia, "For tomorrow morning, prepare some consomme with macaroni for the mistress. Oh, she likes to add minced parsley in her macaroni. Add more parsley for her."
"Yes, Young Master."
"Oh God, I hate eating parsley the most!" Evelyn thought desperately.
It seemed that her little scheme of letting him choke on his yolk had been seen through by him.
Terrified at the thought of eating parsley, Evelyn quickly smiled and tried to stop her, "Auntie Garcia, there's no need to be so troublesome. I can just eat it like that, it tastes quite good."
"There's no trouble at all. Mistress, you don't have to be so polite. This is my duty."
Garcia waved her hand continuously.
"The soup that Auntie Garcia makes are delicious. You will definitely love it." Theodore smiled while he poured a glass of milk for Evelyn.
This vengeful Beast Theodore!
Evelyn was cursing under her breath, but she maintained a happy smile until Charlotte and Ethan left the dining room.
After she finished her breakfast, Evelyn got up and was ready to walk out of the dining room. However, she was gently pulled down by Theodore while he carefully adjusted her blouse for her and smoothing her messy hair.
"Grandpa is already upstairs. There's no one to watch the show." She reminded him rudely.
"Take acting as a habit; it will look more natural." After Theodore finished saying, he gave her a gentle smile, and then took her hand and walked out together.
The driver, Mark, had already parked the car outside the manor. When he saw the both of them coming out, he quickly went and opened the car door.
Theodore put his hand over Evelyn's head. After carefully helping her get into the car and made sure she was seated, he closed the car door and walked to the other side to get into the car.
Well, well!
Evelyn could only show how speechless she was.
Once the car started moving, Theodore returned to his usual self in Evelyn's eyes and kept his distance from her. He didn't even make another sound.
After sending her to work, he repeatedly told her that he was going to pick her up at two o'clock in the afternoon and left.
Finally having her own space of freedom, Evelyn's mood instantly felt so much better. She cleaned up the forensic lab and saw there wasn't anything left for her to do. Then, she went to Eric's office. At least now, Evelyn finally got all the interrogation records of all the people that held a grudge on Elaine regarding the case. She had happily gone back to her office to have a further study on them.
At two o'clock in the afternoon, Theodore came over to pick her up on time.
Since she had already taken her day off, she followed him to the OnlyOne Styling Center. The manager, Aurelia, had welcomed them warmly.
After Theodore introduced Aurelia, he passed Evelyn to her and was about to leave. Suddenly, Evelyn thought of Wendy and immediately pulled him while she pleaded, "Can I bring a friend to the party tonight?"
"A female?"
"Yes. She's my friend, my best friend."
"Seven o'clock tonight, third floor of Gloria Hotel, tell her to mention my name."
"Hey!" Evelyn grabbed his arms again. "It looks like it's going to take a long time during this afternoon. I'm going to be bored being alone. Can I ask her to come now?"
At the same time, she could also ask about Aston.
Theodore didn't know of her thoughts. After thinking awhile, he called Aurelia again and pointed at Evelyn, saying, "My wife's friend will come over later. Treat her well and put her expenses on my tab."
Aurelia was smiling brightly. "Don't worry, Mr. Kingsley. We will make sure that your wife and her friend will be satisfied with our service."
Hearing what he said, Evelyn immediately called Wendy and told her everything. Wendy was delighted, and said that she would change her classes to take the rest of the day off. After half an hour, she managed to rush to OnlyOne.
While the both of them were getting their hair and makeup done, Wendy told everything that her mother had told her about Aston's accident to Evelyn. This was before Evelyn even had the chance to ask.
"An accident? Are you sure?"
"I'm sure! He was drunk driving. They didn't even report it to the insurance company."
Evelyn was disappointed with her words. She took out her notebook and scanned the list of people that had held a grudge on Elaine, trying to get something out of Wendy but to no avail. She was so disappointed that she put her notebook away and stopped talking about the case. Instead, she had a light chat with Wendy.
At five thirty in the evening, the two of them were dolled up and sent to the entrance of the Heavenly Shopping Centre by Mark. He had given Evelyn a card so that they could go to the seventh floor of Clothing World's studio to try out their evening gowns and left.
When the both of them reached the seventh floor of Clothing World, they were very excited at the dazzling array of beautiful clothes. After looking around, Evelyn finally decided to try on a little white dress.
She didn't realize that she had torn the zipper after being too forceful with it when she was trying on the dress. Looking at the wall, there was a sign writing 'All the clothes in this shop are fine products. Please try them on carefully. Damages due to personal reasons will be considered sold' She then quietly looked at the tag that with "38,000" printed on it and became instantly nervous. Immediately, she asked Wendy to bring her bag to her so that she could use the card that Mark had given her in order to see if she had enough money to pay for the dress.
"Bag? I didn't take your bag!"
After taking a moment to realize, Evelyn's face turned pale.
She had forgotten and left her bag in the car. The card and her phone were in her bag. What was even worse was that she couldn't even remember Theodore's phone number.
"I only have 3,000 on my card. It's not enough to pay! What should we do?" Wendy, who just understood the situation, was also shocked.
"Or shall we run? Anyway, they can still sell it as a new dress after repairing the zipper."
"Okay."
While they were discussing in a low tone and holding their hands together, ready to run away, they didn't expect to be surrounded by the workers of the studio once they stepped out of the changing room.
