A woman’s scream woke Shannon up.
Shannon was afraid that the two babies got frightened. She walked toward the cradle and found they were sleeping tight. Then she walked over to close the window.
“Ethan! Did you marry me just for a show? Why? Why are you treating me like this?! I am your wife, Wesley and Nancy’s mother!”
A woman with disheveled hair stood beside a Lincoln car under a dim street lamp, roaring as loudly as she can. Slender and charming as she was, she wore a sportswear in long black and white strips, clutching Ethan’s arm and questioning him.
“You treat me just like a fertility machine. You want to run out on me the moment I delivered the babies! You forbid me from seeing them and you. Your heart is colder than ice! Ethan, you are a completely hypocrite!”
Ethan remained calm. The words that followed were cold and simple, “Enough. Just divorce.”
“No! Forget it! Don’t you remember what you promised me? You said that you'd grow old together with me! You said that!” With a trace of fear in her eyes, Dayle felt that it was impossible for him to come back to her. She suddenly hugged him from behind, almost humbly pleaded, “Eth, the beach photos were just staged. I did all this just to anger you. You always turn your back on me, so I pretended to have an engagement in a fit of pique. As your wife, I just want you to care about me! Eth, I love you. I can’t live without you!”
“Ken, give her the agreement and have it signed.” Ethan coldly pried her delicate fingers off his waist, and left without giving her a look.
Ken handed the divorce agreement to Dayle. She was nearly desperate. Seeing this, she smiled drily and coldly, and then tore it into pieces.
“Ethan, you are so ruthless! You’ve been imposing on me all the time!” Dayle shouted at his back heart-wrenchingly.
Shannon was shocked when she saw this.
It was only then that she realized his ruthlessness .
Shannon couldn’t help to looking at the two babies lying in their cradles. She felt pity for them.
The babies would be unfortunate if their parents got divorced.
At this time, Shannon heard a knock on the door. She opened the door and found Ethan standing there.
“Sir.”
With no response, he walked past her and got close to the cradles. His distressed eyes were decorated with sadness. He slowly sat down, gazing at his children in a daze.
Seeing him alone in grief, Shannon poured him a glass of water and handed it to him. But he did not pick it up.
She didn’t know what he was thinking, so she merely held her breath and stood aside silently.
These days, the media had been reporting on his personal life with suspicion about his sexual orientation due to Dayle’s dating. The media pried into everything about him. Several days ago, it was said that he had abnormal sexual orientation. Recently, the rumor indicated that he was fertile and he was not Wesley and Nancy’s biological father.
Ethan was too low-key to care about the slanders from the media, but it did not mean he wasn’t feeling pressure.
“You can go to sleep now. I will be with them tonight.” Ethan hoarsely said to Shannon after a long silence.
“Ok, sir, have a good rest.” Shannon nodded. Before leaving the room, she looked back at Ethan and added, “Wesley and Nancy are too young to grow up and live without a mother.”
Ethan looked Shannon in her eyes, his gaze turned into a warning stare, “Shannon, just know that your duty is to take care of my children.”
“Yes, sir.” Shannon knew that Ethan didn’t appreciate her interfering, so she shut the door and went to her bedroom.
The next morning, as Shannon aired the babies’ clothes on the balcony, she noticced a woman curling up in the grass outside the villa.
It was Dayle. She’d stayed there the whole night and never left.
The gardener Mason Light walked over, talked to her a few words, and then hurried into the villa.
Immediately, Ken got the news from Mason, and headed to the room to call Ethan. After a while, Ethan went downstairs, dressed with loose clothes in red and black.
Ethan went out and said something to Dayle. Then she fell into his arms. This time he did not push her away. Instead, he lifted her body up and got on the car.
Dayle seemed to get faint for collapse.
Without thinking too much, Shannon washed the children’s clothes and went into the room to feed them.
“Shannon, have you fed the babies?” Lillian walked in and asked Shannon.
Shannon nodded.
“Then help me buy a pack of pads. I’m on my period. My belly aches.” Lillian covered her belly uncomfortably.
Shannon wanted to have a good relationship with Lillian, so she was readily agreed.
Shannon went out and ran into Mason, who was very enthusiastic to say hello to her.
“Shannon, are you going out to go shopping?”
“Yes, Mason.”
Mason looked embarrassed and then gave some money to Shannon, “Would you help me get a pack of milk powder? I don’t have time to buy it and my child needs it for he has no breast milk.”
“Okay, which brand do you want?” Shannon smiled. Mason was a single father with a son about the same age as Wesley. Ethan was very considerate and allowed him to bring his child to work, understanding Mason’s situation.
Shannon noted the brand Mason mentioned.
After walking for a while and passing a large and spectacular fountain, Shannon arrived at the supermarket. She bought pads and the milk powder, and got ready to go back.
“Miss, can I have a word with you?”
A woman with glasses came over, blocking her way.
