Chapter 20 A Soul-Stirring Prank

"That's your sister Bella. I'm not the only one who can use disguises around here," Ryan replied, unable to resist throwing in a jab. "Just think about it for a second. With your limited intelligence, you should have figured out how I set this up the moment you saw me."

"Oh... right, right, right. Isn't it a bit inappropriate to just leave her there? Should I drive back to pick her up later?" The topic was skillfully deflected back at her, but it made sense—Bella and Ryan were a team, so whenever one appeared, the other was bound to be close by.

After all, Bella had taught her the voice-changing trick; it wouldn't do to have her walk back alone.

"You come out here without thinking, and it's no wonder you almost got caught," Ryan scoffed. "What are you going back for, to get yourself killed?"

"..." Rowena decided to stay silent; after all, the more she said, the more mistakes she'd make.

Her brother was good in every aspect. He was handsome and reliable. The biggest problem was that he was too good at making people angry. It was so annoying to look at him when he was angry at everything.

Bella had actually followed him and went everywhere with him for so many years. How good was her temper!

The car quickly drove into the neighborhood where Rowena lived. Ian went to the hotel to rest. Rowena led Ryan home and inserted the key into the door. She turned around but did not turn it. It was obvious that someone had locked it from inside.

Rowena frowned and asked loudly, "Mia, Leo, are you at home?"

There was no sound inside, and only the continuous echoes in the corridor answered her.

Rowena still wanted to shout, but she was pulled back by Ryan. She turned around and saw Ryan's serious expression. He seemed to be nervous as he whispered, "Don't make a sound."

Rowena felt a chill run down her spine and allowed the man to pull her behind him.

She made an appointment with Jameson and asked him to pick up the two children home after work. Mia and Leo should be home at this time, but...

Ryan approached the door and knocked it heavily twice. He pressed his ears against the door plank and said in a deep voice, "Police."

Three seconds passed, but there was still no movement.

Just as Rowena was about to collapse, a soft and tender voice came from inside the door.

"Brother! It's the police uncle outside..." There was a hint of fear in Mia's voice as if she was afraid her prank would be discovered.

"Idiot. Can't you tell whose voice is outside? That's our uncle." Leo helplessly rolled his eyes at his sister. He thought that she had shouted so loudly that she had already been exposed. He walked forward and opened the door.

The two adults outside were staring at each other, thinking to themselves, "Was this a prank by these two little brats?"

"Uncle?" Mia was still unaware of the situation. When she saw Ryan enter with Rowena, her small eyes lit up, "Uncle! I miss you so much!"

As she spoke, she jumped onto Ryan.

Normally, Ryan would definitely squat down to catch her hug. However, this time, the man did not have the slightest intention of bending down. Instead, he lowered his head and looked down at the girl who opened her arms to hug him, "Why are you guys pranking me?"

"Yes, Mia, Leo. Do you know how worried Mom and Uncle are?" Rowena said seriously.

Mia's big eyes were suddenly filled with tears. Looking at the serious expressions of the two adults, she hummed a few times. Before she could open her mouth, she burst out crying first.

Leo protected his sister. His body was small, but he had a righteous look. He stiffened his neck and said, "I was the one who brought Mia to prank you. Mom, we haven't seen you since last night. Today at the kindergarten, Mia said that she missed you. The two of us waited for you at the kindergarten for a day. In the end, Uncle Jameson came to pick us up. You only came back so late after we got home."

"..." Rowena was rendered speechless by Leo's words. Indeed, she had not accompanied the two children for the whole day. She was used to Leo taking care of Mia. She always felt that the two children must be safe, but she ignored their feelings. She felt guilty and wanted to pick up Mia, who was crying. However, she found that the little fellow had already climbed onto Ryan.

Then... She was attacked again by Ryan's gaze.

"Rowena, if you can't raise them well, just let me bring them back to Switzerland. What's wrong with you disappearing without a trace like this?" Ryan found out that this sister of his had specially come to trouble him. He had cultivated his temper very well in the past two years. Ever since he received her call today, his anger had come wave after wave. Moreover, there was a very short interval between the peak points of his anger.

"I was wrong..." Rowena lowered her head with her hands behind her back, like a primary school student who had made a mistake.

"... Alright, Uncle. Mom can't win against the three of us by herself. We forgive her, " Leo couldn't bear it, and the lines of his body softened a lot. He was no longer in his tense state just now. He looked at Rowena with more pity in his eyes.

Mia looked at Rowena through her tearful eyes. Tears blurred her vision. Rowena's face also seemed to be plated with a layer of water light. She quickly approached Rowena and touched her face with her little hands, "Mom, Mom, don't cry. I don't blame you now."

The few people next to her were amused by this little girl. Even Ryan's face, which had been uptight for a long time, had a bit of a smile on it. His tightly knitted eyebrows relaxed slightly. He held Mia and shook her, but his mouth was still unforgiving, "Rowena, can you learn from my niece? Even she knows how to be considerate."

It was Rowena who was sorry for the two little kids today. Rowena decided to make up for it. She played with the two children for a while and told stories to coax the two children to sleep. Finally, at 12 o'clock in the evening, she left the children's room.

She was just about to go back to the bedroom to rest when she heard Ryan answering the phone.

"So far, we couldn't find any clues in America. Are you sure that Mason White is here?"

The other side seemed to have agreed to something.

"Okay, I'll go back tomorrow." He nodded.

Ryan put down the phone and turned to look at Rowena, "What? Stealing information?"

"What are you talking about?" Rowena did not want to argue with him today, "You have a job here? Is it related to the White family?"

"Yes." Ryan rubbed the space between his eyebrows and sat on the sofa, "Mason is suspected to have come to America. Not long after, the White family suddenly made a move and won the black market special auction item. They spent 50 million. The White family has been in a complicated situation recently. They should not suddenly take out so much money."

"Wait, 50 million?" Rowena said with her eyes wide open, "Just recently, Rosalind's company has transferred 50 million liquidity."
