Chapter 42 I Killed Someone

The woman’s body was half-hanging over the railing. Wasn't she Rowena?

Jameson yanked off his coat and tossed it onto the deck. He held the edge of the ship and jumped down.

Rowena was drenched, the sea water soaking through her clothes. She was gripping the railing with all her might, as if it were the last lifeline she had.

Even when Jameson had already arrived by her side, she was completely unaware of it.

Jameson leaned close to her, wanting to hug her, but Rowena did not move, as if Jameson was not here to help her but to push her down into the vast sea again.

"Rowena, it's me." Jameson softened his voice. He called her name in a low voice, "You don't have to be afraid. Come to me. I'll take you up."

"No... No." Rowena still did not move, "If I let go, I will fall. This time, I will die, I will die..."

She muttered in a low voice as if she had blocked all other sounds from the outside world, leaving only endless panic.

Seeing that they had not come up, Sebastian, who had recovered, noticed that something was wrong. He quickly stood up to look down.

“Hey, Hale, What the hell are you dawdling around down there for?” Sebastian shouted, his frustration boiling over as he watched Jameson fail to rescue Rowena and instead seem to be having a casual chat. “Are you just going to let her slip away?”

"Shut up. I have no time for you." Jameson looked up, and his face was dark. He understood Rowena's struggles; the ocean had almost taken her life once before. At that moment, he knew patience was his only option.

In psychology, this kind of situation was explained well—only a strong emotional support could truly penetrate a patient’s fear, helping them relax from such a heightened state of defense.

For so many years, although Rowena seemed to get rid of her former fear and had trust in him, he had never been the strong shield in her heart that could protect her.

Thinking of this, Jameson smiled bitterly and continued to try, "Rowena, there is no one else, only the two of us. Look at me. I am Jameson. I can help you."

He reached out his hand and wanted to touch Rowena's hair to let her relax, but Rowena quickly dodged.

"No... no one can save me." Rowena said slowly in despair, her fear not diminishing at all.

She was scared. From the moment she stepped on this ship, the fear she had felt had been spreading. The cold and salty sea water seemed to be shouting and wanting to swallow her up. Time seemed to return to five years ago. She floated and sank into the sea, her entire body wrapped up and filled. There was everything except oxygen. She tried hard to breathe. The seawater was coming in and out, wanting to fill her up.

The slow flow of life, from head to toe, peeled off bit by bit, like a knife scraping, using the cruelest punishment to deprive her of her life.

Maybe it was all just an illusion—her children, the university, Heartbeating, her brother, Jameson, Simon... all mere figments created while she floated helplessly in the sea. Everything was just a dream.

After waking up from her dream, she was still in the sea, waiting for her doom.

Her whole body was trembling, almost squeezing out all the strength she had. Her hands that were holding the fence were slowly loosening.

Jameson realized she was about to lose strength and quickly wanted to grab her. However, Rowena still did not accept his help. She dodged backward and released her grip on the fence. Then, she lost her balance.

Was it going to end? Was she going to die?

But what embraced her was not the cold seawater but a warm coat and a powerful arm.

"Stupid woman, are you out of your mind? Do you want to die? You came to join the tour group just to die in front of me!"

She could feel the warm clothes and arms, but the man who held Rowena tightly scolded her.

The sound was too loud, piercing through the illusion that had just trapped Rowena.

She was dazed and looked at the man in confusion. He was holding her in his arms.

There was still sweat on Sebastian's forehead. He furrowed up his brows, and his eyes were angry. He grabbed the ship with one hand and hugged her with the other. His feet firmly stepped on the fence that she had just held. He tightly wrapped her up with the clothes he had just worn.

"I..." Rowena moved her lips, not knowing what she wanted to say, but her body leaned towards Sebastian, not resisting.

"Shut up. If you have anything to say, go up and say it." Sebastian did not have a good tone. He was about to be scared to death by Rowena. She had repeatedly encountered accidents in front of him as if she was waiting for him to save her.

He took Rowena with him and jumped onto the deck. He placed Rowena on the ground to make her feel more comfortable.

There were many people gathered around. Some even took out their mobile phones to take photos. This kind of thing was indeed uncommon. People told each other and came to watch curiously.

Rowena had woken up. She was panting heavily on the deck. Jameson quickly followed them. He knelt and looked at her with concern.

"Jameson..." Rowena called out in a low voice. There was a relief in her eyes and a hint of sadness that could not be relieved, "I seem to have gotten my revenge."

"Hmm?"

Jameson did not hear clearly. He frowned and asked, "What did you say?"

"I said." Rowena took a few more breaths. Finally, she had enough strength. However, her voice was still very soft. Only the two men beside her could hear her, "I have taken revenge. I have killed someone."

What?

Before Jameson could react, Sebastian's expression suddenly changed. He asked urgently."You mean Rosalind?"

"... Yes." She nodded, "You won't..."

Before she finished speaking, Sebastian suddenly stood up in the next second, and without giving anyone time to react, he directly jumped into the seawater.

The crowd was shocked by Sebastian's actions. After a moment of silence, it instantly became a mess.

"What's wrong with this person?"

"Wasn't this rescued young lady with another woman before? Now that only she is here, the other one might have fallen into the sea."

"Is this love? Even if he will be in danger, he jumps down to save her."

"What should we do now? Call the police? Call the doctor?"

"What's the use? We are still in the middle of the sea. Even gods can't get here."

"..."

Rowena lay there in a daze. Her gaze fell on the place where Sebastian had just left.

It turned out that he could be resolute for Rosalind. His resolution had never been for herself alone.

Rowena felt even dizzier. She lost consciousness and fainted soon.
