Chapter 45 Her Words Carried a Hidden Meaning

"Rosa, I know you’ve been through a lot,” Sebastian sighed softly, his gaze toward Rosalind filled with compassion. “I just woke up and couldn’t be there for you.”

"It's okay, Sebastian. You saved me." Rosalind replied, overwhelmed with gratitude. She couldn’t believe how warm he was, putting himself in danger for her and now feeling guilty for not taking care of her. “It was so dangerous; just thinking about it makes me scared… What would have happened if you’d gotten hurt while saving me?”

"I don't care." Sebastian replied as if he was talking about the most trivial and common thing, "Rosa, you and I will go back to the house first. I want to see if there is anything wrong with your body."

"Ah... okay." Rosalind looked at Sebastian shyly, "I'll go back with you. However, Sebastian, you have to uphold justice for me."

As Rosalind was speaking, she was interrupted by an angry child's voice.

"Uncle! How can you do this with another aunt!" Mia and Leo appeared out of nowhere, and Mia was frowning, her little fists clenched tightly, "How can you treat my mom like this?"

"Mia!" Leo immediately stepped forward to cover Mia's little mouth, "What this uncle does has nothing to do with Mom. They have no relationship indeed."

"Nonsense!" Mia struggled to break free from Leo's grasp, "This uncle is dad! I have decided! He is dad! He can only be dad!"

"Mia, what are you talking about?" Jameson was shocked by Mia's words. Then, a strong feeling of suffocation invaded his heart. Was the telepathy between father and daughter so strong? He had taken care of the two children for so long. They had never called him father. They had never even joked about it.

"Mia, stop messing around." Rowena was also puzzled. When did Mia, this little kid, decide that Sebastian was her father? And when she thought about how Sebastian protected Rosalind, she could not be sure whether she should let the father and children recognize each other, "If you don't listen, Mom will be angry!"

"I won't listen, I won't listen!" There were tears in Mia's eyes.

She didn’t know where this sudden jealousy came from, but seeing Rosalind and Sebastian being all lovey-dovey made her heart ache. Ignoring the others trying to stop her, she dashed over and wrapped her arms around Sebastian’s leg. The once-smooth pant leg was now wrinkled and crumpled from her grip.

“What’s with this kid?” Rosalind, who had been lost in sweet, happy feelings, was now annoyed by this little atmosphere destroyer. What was she saying? Did she really think Sebastian and Rowena were a couple?

Rosalind wanted to yank the child away with all her might, but with Sebastian right there, she had to maintain her image. She crouched down to meet Mia’s gaze.

“Little girl, what are you talking about? This uncle is my boyfriend, and we’re getting married soon,” she said in the gentlest tone. However, her eyes turned fierce in a way that Sebastian couldn't see, as if she wanted to devour Mia whole. “You need to let go of uncle, okay?”

No matter how brave Mia was, she was only a little girl. Under Rosalind's intense gaze, her small hands timidly loosened, and she took a few steps back.

Meanwhile, Leo, who was almost as tall as his sister, saw everything with his eyes.

He quickly stepped forward, pulling Mia behind him, fearlessly meeting Rosalind's gaze. “Auntie, you really are something. It seems like your words are just for your boyfriend's ears, but your eyes reveal your true intentions, don’t they?”

"You, little boy, your mother has never taught you any manners?" Rosalind was a little embarrassed to be exposed so directly. She quickly looked away and returned to Sebastian's side, "Sebastian, you’re not going to let these two kids go around pairing you up with other women, are you? Tell them that you only have me, okay?"

This wasn’t a difficult request at all. He was already playing a part, so he might as well go all the way. Besides, anything said in front of kids would surely be forgotten by the next day.

Sebastian pursed his lips. Just as he was about to say something, he met Leo's gaze.

The small boy stood tall and quiet, contrasting sharply with Mia's loud outburst. Leo’s demeanor was unnaturally composed; his eyes were cold, as if he were waiting to see how Sebastian would handle the situation.

Sebastian suddenly remembered what Leo said to him in the ward a few days ago.

"If we have recognized you as our father, and you still have to be with the aunt now, what about our mother? We were still in a single-parent family, and we were still the children without a father, right?"

The once naive but unique mature voice still echoed in his ears, and the words Sebastian almost blurted out were stuck in his mouth.

He suddenly felt atorn. If he stood up for Rosalind in front of Leo, the boy might find it difficult to accept him.

Wait. What accept... Sebastian suddenly realized he had set things up with these two kids all wrong. They hadn’t reached any conclusions yet, so why was he already thinking about how to make them accept him?

Sebastian found himself stuck in a dilemma. What was going on? Hadn’t he come in with good intentions to defuse the situation? Now, it seemed he was in a no-win position, caught between both sides.

"If you argue with a child, it would be too childish." Sebastian turned to Rosalind, "You are still very weak right now. Don't be angry here. Why don’t you go back to your room and rest?”

"Ah... Alright then." Rosalind muttered in her heart. Sebastian was protecting the two children. Was there any sort of connction between them?

Seeing that they finally left, Jameson's tense nerves finally relaxed. He was kind of vigilant with Sebastian now. It was not just because he was worried that he would hurt Rowena, but because of more secretive reasons. He could feel the unknown new feeling that Mia had towards Sebastian. He could also understand the ambiguous attitude Rowena had towards Sebastian.

A strong sense of crisis had never subsided from yesterday morning until now.

"Rowena, you have been in too much contact with Sebastian recently." He sat on the chair next to the ward bed and said, "From the International Expo business dinner to the incident about the manic patient, you have always been in contact with him."

"Yes." Rowena's mind was not on this matter. She casually replied and asked, "Jameson, I heard what you said to Rosalind. Do you also have a conflict with Gale Family?"

Jameson was stunned for a moment and then smiled, "It happened many years ago. I haven't mentioned it to you. You won't blame me, will you?"

"How could that be? Everyone has their privacy." Rowena smiled. Even though her relationship with Jameson was that close, she still kept many things to herself, "I never thought that we would have the same enemy."

Jameson's smile froze on his face.

Her words seemed to carry another meaning.
