Chapter 7 He Kissed Victoria

Nicholas pushed me.

I fell hard onto the marble floor, while Victoria landed in Nicholas's arms thanks to his timely appearance.

She wrapped her arms around his neck and started crying pitifully, "Nick, thank you. I was so scared."

Nicholas held her like she was his most precious treasure.

He patted her back gently, soothing her, "Don't worry. I'm here now."

That scene crushed my eyes. How much of a failure was I to witness my husband embracing another woman right in front of me?

And he had pushed me down himself.

A delayed pain shot through my belly, and panic struck me. My baby!

Clutching my belly, I tried to speak, but my voice barely let out a whisper, "Nicholas, I..."

Nicholas seemed to finally notice my existence, looking at me with a vicious glare.

Through gritted teeth, he accused me, "Mindy, why did you push Vicky?"

I saw the smug look in Victoria's eyes as she snuggled in his arms.

"I didn't... She was the one who..."

"Enough!" Nicholas cut me off, looking like he wanted to tear me apart. "If anything happens to her, you'll pay for it."

Nicholas stood up, carrying Victoria in his arms.

As they passed by my side, I tried to grab his pant leg but couldn't reach it.

Holding my belly, tears streaming down my face, I whispered, "Nicholas, I’m painful."

But he didn't even look back.

Finally, my coworkers helped me up and called a taxi to take me to the hospital.

I went to the ER and had several gynecological exams. The doctor reassured me saying that everything was fine, and I finally relaxed.

They prescribed medication for my pregnancy and warned me to avoid similar incidents. They couldn't guarantee my safety or the baby’s if something like that happened again.

After leaving the OB-GYN department, I went straight to Grandma's room, which was located in the same hospital.

We talked for hours. Night had fallen, but Nicholas never came.

I knew he wouldn't come. He was with his ex-girlfriend, and in his eyes, I was probably a would-be murderer.

But Grandma kept wanting to see Nicholas, convincing me to call him.

Finally, I had no choice but to step into the hallway and dial his number.

Unsurprisingly, he didn't answer.

Grandma couldn't hide her disappointment.

I had to return to the mansion soon, so I couldn't stay with Grandma long. Her hope of seeing her grandson-in-law was dashed again. The disappointment on her wrinkled face broke my heart. Nicholas never showed up before I left.

As I walked out of the inpatient building, I looked up and saw Nicholas carrying Victoria out of the ER entrance nearby.

His handsome face was full of concern, treating her like she might break something at any moment.

Stunned, I stood there as Nicholas strode past me as if I were invisible.

He carefully placed her in a wheelchair. I was too numb to witness such scenes by now.

I quietly closed my eyes, truly tired of watching.

Just as I was about to turn away, I saw Nicholas bend down. In the meanwhile, Victoria lifted her face and kissed him in my viewpoint.
