Chapter 5 Caleb, Let’s Get a Divorce

The woman’s wrist was delicate, seemingly fragile, as if it could break with a gentle twist. Her entire frame seemed almost weightless, with barely any muscle.

Caleb's brows furrowed ever so slightly, a barely noticeable gesture.

It seemed he didn’t like the way she was now—so dry and unappealing, as if she had lost her vitality.

Yasmin felt the heat from his palm, and a shiver ran through her. She turned to face him.

She met his cold gaze directly. “What are you playing at? Are you throwing a tantrum because I’m with Hailey?”

To him, her discomfort was just an act. If he didn’t like someone, he’d think they were playing house, even if they were literally dying.

“Caleb...” Yasmin was exhausted, her gaze on him filled with weariness.

She inhaled deeply, then whispered, “I’m not that childish. Let go.”

“Hah!” Caleb released her wrist, his tone sharp as he stepped back. “You’re Hailey’s doctor now. Her pregnancy—you’d better take good care of it.”

As soon as he let go of her, Yasmin’s body seemed to lose its strength. The world swayed around her, her head spun, and her entire body felt weak. She stumbled forward, and her world tilted until she collapsed right into Caleb’s arms.

His chest was solid, broad, and warm—a shelter, but not for her.

“Falling into my arms?” Caleb glanced down at her, pushing her away with a slight movement. “And you still say you’re not mad about me going public with Hailey.”

“Hailey’s health is delicate and needs careful attention,” he said, his voice firm. “You need to tell me everything—what she can do, what she can’t, what she can eat, and what she can’t.”

Yasmin forced a bitter smile, her hand instinctively resting on her own belly, feeling the sting in her heart. “You really care so much about her... and that child inside her?”

“What else?” Caleb replied, his expression unreadable. “You said it yourself, so I’ll let you rest.”

Then he added, as if it were an afterthought, “Hailey’s situation can’t be delayed.”

In that moment, Yasmin understood. Caleb hadn’t been at home for her; he had been waiting for her to come back so she could give him a lecture on pregnancy.

She was exhausted, physically and emotionally drained, and she no longer had the energy to continue playing along with his games.

With a weak voice, she began listing the pregnancy dos and don’ts.

Caleb, notebook and pen in hand, jotted everything down with meticulous care, each word a reflection of his attention and concern.

Yasmin watched him, noticing how his side profile was sharp and handsome, every line etched with focus. They said that a man who is serious is the most attractive, but his seriousness wasn’t for her...

Her eyes welled with tears, and a bitter sense of despair crept up. He could do all this for Hailey. Yet, when she was on the verge of collapse, in his eyes, it was all just a show.

The more she thought about it, the more she realized her marriage was nothing but a joke. Holding onto the title of Mrs. Fisher was only making her a part of that joke.

A divorce could get her a sizable settlement—enough to cover her mother’s medical expenses for some time.

Rather than waiting for Caleb and Hailey to kick her out of the Fisher family one day, it would be better to leave on her own terms.

“That’s about it.” Yasmin finished speaking, and as soon as she did, Caleb closed his notebook and stood up to leave.

She could tell—he was in a rush to go find Hailey.

Yasmin turned her back, closing her eyes, her fist clenched in determination. “Caleb, let’s get a divorce.”

Her voice was laced with hopelessness and bitterness.

Caleb’s steps faltered abruptly.

He turned to look at her pale face, his expression unreadable. “Yasmin, are you serious? Are you really trying to play the jealousy game? The act of pretending to push me away just to pull me closer has gotten boring.”

Outside, the sky had darkened, mist hanging in the air like a veil over the entire estate. Yasmin whispered, “I’m not joking with you.”
