Chapter 3 Retaliation

In my past life, Elena gave me all the clothes to wash. I listened to Rosemary's advice and did not argue with her, silently enduring everything, while Rosemary did nothing to help me.

I spent hours washing clothes in cold water until midnight. By the time I returned to my room, I had developed a fever and was bedridden for more than half a month.

During that time, Rosemary never came to check on me. When I finally recovered, she appeared before me.

She complained, saying that because I was not there, her fingers had swollen from the water.

Yes, when I wasn't there, who else would have volunteered to help her scrub the clothes?

Thinking of this made me even angrier. I stood up, shoved Rosemary aside, and carelessly dumped all the clothes I had in my hands into Elena's basin, some of them even spilling onto the floor.

Rosemary lost her balance and almost fell. "Liana, what are you doing?"

Elena was stunned too. She screamed and tried to pull my hair.

Laundry Mistress Ms. Winifred appeared from a distance, shouting at us, "Aren't you going to work? Do you want to skip dinner tonight?!"

Elena glared at me hatefully, then sat down in a huff to continue washing the clothes.

I ignored her and went back to my work, since I was almost done anyway.

Only Rosemary, after Ms. Winifred left, sighed faintly, "Ah, what's the point? We're all in the same manor, why make things so difficult for each other..."

I interrupted her, a sly smile curling at the corners of my lips. "Rosemary, since you can't bear to see Elena struggling, why don't you help her wash?"

"Me? How could I? You were the one who always helped me..." Rosemary panicked at the thought of doing the work herself.

I cut her off again, "Rosemary, don't be modest. You're thoughtful and kind-hearted. This little task is easy for you, so don't decline."

It turned out she knew all along that I had been the one helping her.

She had deliberately favored Elena to maintain her image of being above it all, generously taking credit for others' hard work without lifting a finger.

Meanwhile, I, the one who actually did the work, was seen as selfish and opportunistic.

Well, I wouldn’t tolerate her behavior anymore.

Elena, being clever, immediately pushed the entire basin toward Rosemary.

"Then it's all yours, Rosemary. I just remembered Ms. Winifred needed me for something, I'll be back shortly."

With that, she quickly stood up and hurriedly left.

Rosemary was on the verge of tears as she looked at me, her lips trembling. "Liana, I..."

"Rosemary, you're being too modest. These little chores are nothing to you, I believe you can do them well," I said with a smile, finishing the last of my laundry and setting down the basin.

"Rosemary, you're broad-minded. You’ll surely do great things in the future," I added, turning around with a smile, then left without caring about the resentful look she gave me from behind.
