Chapter 15

My legs suddenly gave way, and I collapsed beside the sofa.

The small pill bottle tipped over from my movement, rolling to my hand. I picked it up and saw the label: “Hangover Pills.”

Unbelievable...

I couldn’t help but feel torn between amusement and exasperation. With some regained strength, I shook Sarah awake in no time. Rubbing her red eyes, she mumbled groggily, “Why are you here? Didn’t I take the day off today?”

After downing a large glass of warm water, Sarah finally sobered up.

Without makeup, she looked much more innocent than she did with her usual heavy makeup. But her expression was a bit irritating. “I’ve got a long life ahead of me. Why would I want to die? You’re just overthinking it.”

I didn’t even bother responding and went straight to telling her what Tyler had said today. Only then did Sarah’s smile fade, and she realized, “Now it makes sense...”

“What do you mean?”

Seeing my curiosity, Sarah sighed deeply and explained, “Actually, I only knew Tyler before, but it was Marcus who really brought us together.”

It turned out that six months ago, Sarah had also been invited to Marcus’s birthday party.

The party was held at a bar, and the atmosphere was great. Marcus ordered a lot of drinks, and most people there were completely wasted. After that, things got a bit out of control.

At this point, Sarah frowned in confusion. “Now that I think about it, Marcus didn’t drink much that night. I thought he was a straight-laced guy who didn’t like alcohol. But now that I think about it, he was the one making sure we all kept drinking.”

Recalling Marcus’s usual behavior, both Sarah and I shuddered in unison.

We hadn’t talked for long when there was another loud banging at the door.

“That old lady landlord of yours... she seriously thought you were causing trouble in her house. I should go and clear things up.”
